Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action movie set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED attached. That is the extent of what has been reported. The project is in development, not a greenlit production, and no writer, director, cast member, shooting date, or release date has been confirmed. Anyone searching for a release window or for Keanu Reeves’s involvement will not find either answer in current reporting.
What has been reported
The news comes from entertainment trade reporting from Deadline, relayed the same day by Consequence. It names Paramount Pictures as the studio developing a live-action feature in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, and it names Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED as producers. The sources I was able to check do not include a primary announcement from Paramount or from CD PROJEKT RED, so the details rest on trade reporting rather than an official statement from either company.

What is not confirmed
The reporting leaves several basic questions open:
- Plot and characters: not reported. Familiar characters from the game should not be treated as confirmed for the film.
- Cast: not reported. This includes Keanu Reeves, who played Johnny Silverhand in the game. Nothing in the report confirms whether he will reprise the role.
- Writer and director: not reported.
- Filming schedule: not reported.
- Release date: not reported.
No named person has gone on record about the Paramount film in the material I could check, so there are no direct quotes from executives, producers, or CD PROJEKT RED staff on its status.

A separate live-action effort was announced before the Paramount report. On October 5, 2023, CD PROJEKT RED announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content. The company’s release said:
#1 Best Overall
- Case with game discs.
- Reversible Inlay.
- World Compendium detailing the games setting and lore.
- Postcards from Night City.
- Map of Night City.
“The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.”
The release also named Anonymous Content producers and said the project would work with the game’s creative team. That is the only official description of this earlier project I could check. It dates from 2023, so it should not be read as an update on the Paramount film’s status.

Whether these are one production that changed hands, two separate efforts, or something in between cannot be determined from the available reporting. Until Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED says so directly, it is safest to treat them as unconfirmed as to their relationship.
Why the franchise matters to a studio
CD PROJEKT RED’s first-half 2026 company update gives the scale of the source game and its expansion. It reports that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies, a milestone the company says was reached nearly six years after release. It also reports that the Phantom Liberty expansion has sold 15 million copies, reaching that figure in less than three years. Both numbers are the publisher’s own sales figures for the game and its expansion. They are not box-office or audience measures for a film, and they do not indicate when or whether a movie will be made.

What would confirm progress
- An official Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED announcement naming a writer or director.
- Casting news from the studio or from the producers.
- A statement explaining whether the 2023 Anonymous Content project and the Paramount film are the same production.
- A dated release, which none of the current reporting provides.
Until one of these appears, the accurate answer to the question “Is a Cyberpunk 2077 movie coming out?” is that a live-action film is in development at Paramount, with no confirmed release.
