A hotfix can restore service, but it does not by itself show whether the release caused the problem, how quickly the team recovered, or whether the next deployment adds risk. A useful dashboard makes those questions answerable by pairing clearly defined delivery metrics with trustworthy deployment and incident data.
What a hotfix tells you—and what it doesn’t
DORA defines change fail rate as the share of deployments that require immediate intervention after release. In its software delivery performance metrics guide, DORA gives a rollback or hotfix as likely responses. That makes a hotfix a useful signal of a change failure, but it is not a complete diagnosis: the response alone does not establish the user impact, the cause, or whether the fix resolved the underlying problem.

To tell that story accurately, a dashboard needs to connect the release to the incident and the remediation. The essential chain is: which deployment reached production, what degraded for users, when the team intervened, and what deployment or other action restored service. If those links are missing or ambiguous, a chart may look precise while describing the wrong event.

DORA’s current guide groups five software delivery performance measures into throughput and instability. They are complementary signals, not ingredients in one universal performance score.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
| Group | Measure | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Throughput | Change lead time | Time from a change’s commit in version control to production. |
| Throughput | Deployment frequency | How often production deployments occur, or the time between them. |
| Throughput | Failed deployment recovery time | Time to recover from a failed deployment that requires immediate intervention. |
| Instability | Change fail rate | Share of deployments that require immediate intervention after deployment. |
| Instability | Deployment rework rate | Share of unplanned deployments caused by a production incident. |
The current five-measure framework differs from older Four Keys material, which describes a four-metric model. If a dashboard uses the older model, label it accordingly rather than presenting it as DORA’s current set. The DORA-maintained Four Keys repository describes a source-available approach for ingesting development events through webhooks and displaying those older metrics, but the repository says it is not currently maintained; it should not be presented as a supported turnkey product.
What a hotfix dashboard should make visible
For a production incident, the most useful view is one that lets a team inspect the event, not just count it. Put the metric definition, service or application scope, and time window next to each figure. Then make it possible to trace the deployment and incident records behind the calculation.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 22 inch class (21.5″ viewable) Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- 100HZ FAST REFRESH RATE: 100Hz brings your favorite movies and video games to life. Stream, binge, and play effortlessly
- SMOOTH ACTION WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC: Adaptive-Sync technology ensures fluid action sequences and rapid response time. Every frame will be rendered smoothly with crystal clarity and without stutter
- Release context: identify the production deployment and the service it changed, with a clear time reference.
- Incident context: show the incident linked to the deployment and the user-facing degradation or outage recorded by the team.
- Recovery context: distinguish the initial change from the intervention that restored service, such as a rollback or hotfix, where that information is recorded.
- Metric context: display the definition and calculation window so readers can tell what the numerator and denominator represent.
- Data provenance: make the underlying deployment and incident events inspectable, so a surprising number can be checked rather than accepted at face value.
This structure helps separate three questions that are easy to conflate: did the release fail, how long did recovery take, and how much unplanned work did the incident create? DORA’s measures address different parts of that picture; a single red or green indicator cannot answer all three.
Check the data rules before interpreting the graph
Metric names do not guarantee identical calculations across tools. GitLab’s DORA metrics documentation, for example, describes an implementation in which deployment frequency counts successful production deployments and is averaged, while failure and restoration calculations depend on incident tracking. The documentation also describes assumptions about production incidents and their relationships to deployments. Those are GitLab-specific implementation details, not universal DORA rules.
Rank #3
- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
GitLab’s DORA charts documentation says its charts show metric evolution over a week, month, 90 days, or 180 days, require an environment configured with the production deployment tier, and are an Ultimate-tier feature. These details apply to that product and may change; they should not be generalized to other dashboards.
Before relying on any chart, verify which events count as production deployments, how incidents are associated with deployments, whether the displayed value is a total or an average, and what period it covers. A missing incident record or an incorrectly classified environment can distort the result without changing the chart’s appearance.
Rank #4
- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction
- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
Read the measures as service-level signals
DORA advises that context matters and that its measures are best suited to one application or service at a time. A team can use trends to prompt investigation, but a dashboard is not a universal verdict on engineering performance. Comparing unrelated services or treating a metric as a target can obscure differences in architecture, release practices, and incident recording.

For a hotfix, use the dashboard to ask whether the deployment and incident are represented correctly, whether the recovery period reflects the team’s actual intervention, and whether subsequent unplanned work is recorded. Then examine the underlying events and service context before drawing conclusions. The dashboard is most useful when it directs the next investigation—not when it substitutes for one.
