It keeps you in the cockpit as the ship rises, but the game still loads the next cell behind the scenes. The handoff can remain noticeable, the result varies with planetary atmosphere and weather, and the mod does not make landings seamless.
What the Starfield takeoff mod changes
The mod targets one specific break in Starfield’s spaceflight presentation: the visible loading transition when taking off from a planet. According to the Nexus Mods listing, it spawns the ship above the landing site to mask that transition. PC Gamer’s account describes the player staying in the cockpit while the ship rises through the atmosphere.

That is a change to how the transition appears, not proof that the underlying load has disappeared. The cell handoff still happens, and players may notice it. PC Gamer frames Starfield’s takeoff and landing transitions as part of a broader criticism of interrupted exploration, contrasting them with the seamless transitions in No Man’s Sky; that is the article’s comparison, not a measured player consensus or technical benchmark.
How seamless is the takeoff?
The mod is an experimental improvement, not a guaranteed uninterrupted flight. Its Nexus page labels it beta and says the smoothness depends on a planet’s atmosphere and weather. The creator, 0xBobby, writes: “The seamlessness of the transition will depend on the atmosphere and weather of the planet, I am working on making the transition even smoother.”

The listing showed version 1.4 and an update date of October 10, 2026, when checked on October 11, 2026. Its changelog records fixes involving crashes, weather effects, camera issues, situations where the player could not shoot, and quest-related crashes or softlocks. That history shows ongoing fixes; it does not establish that every issue is resolved.
Does it make landings seamless too?
No. The mod is for takeoffs, and its author describes seamless landings as a much more complex problem. On the Nexus page, 0xBobby says, “I may attempt that, but the chances of it happening are pretty much 0.” PC Gamer also quotes the creator saying, “It probably won’t ever happen, at least not from me,” referring to seamless landings. Do not expect this mod to remove loading transitions throughout the game.

What you need to install it
The Nexus listing names two required dependencies and one optional recommendation:

- Required: Address Library for SFSE Plugins.
- Optional but recommended: Fly Closer To Planets in Cruise Mode. The mod author warns that without it, the ship may teleport upward when entering cruise mode after takeoff.
Because the mod requires SFSE, treat it as Steam-oriented. The Nexus-Mods Starfield Vortex extension documentation says SFSE is Steam-only and does not work with the Xbox Game Pass version. Vortex’s ability to support Starfield installations on both Steam and Xbox does not make an SFSE-dependent mod compatible with Game Pass. Check the mod’s live requirements and your game version before installing.

If you use Vortex
The Starfield Vortex Extension page lists Vortex 1.9.10 or later as a requirement for the extension; LOOT sorting requires Vortex 1.12.0 or later. These are general Vortex and Starfield setup details, not additional requirements stated for Seamless Planet Takeoffs itself.
Starfield uses separate Data folders, and Vortex offers an optional folder-junction method. The extension documentation warns that cloud-sync services such as OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox can cause problems with that method. Follow Vortex’s instructions for your installation rather than assuming the extension’s general setup notes are specific to this mod.

What to expect before installing
- You may get a more continuous-looking planetary ascent, with the cockpit experience maintained as the ship rises.
- A visible pause or cell handoff may still occur; the mod masks the load rather than removing it.
- Atmosphere and weather affect how smooth the transition looks.
- The release is still labeled beta, and its changelog does not guarantee that all bugs are fixed.
- Its stated scope is takeoff, not landing, and its SFSE dependency limits its practical platform compatibility.
