A five-stage filter reduced 5,718 articles mentioning NVIDIA to 161 theme-matched alerts in a single week. The result shows how combining broad retrieval with language, relevance, deduplication, and topic filters can make a news stream easier to review—but it is one measurement from a changing news index, not a benchmark or proof that every important story was caught.
What the 161 alerts represent
The APITube News API article reports a pull made on 2026-09-06 covering articles published from 2026-08-30 through 2026-09-05. Its initial union contained 5,718 unique articles mentioning NVIDIA, about 817 per day. After five filtering stages, 161 remained—roughly 23 alerts per day for that particular week.

Those are provider-specific counts for one historical window. APITube says a later rerun of the same period returned 153 alerts instead of the archived 161 as its index continued ingesting. The total and final alert count therefore are not stable historical constants. The article does not provide a labeled accuracy audit, so 161 is a filtered output count, not evidence of how many relevant developments the process captured or missed. APITube’s account of the measurement.
How the five stages narrowed the stream
| Stage | Rule reported by the author | Articles remaining |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Retrieve broadly | Combine results from an NVIDIA entity-ID query and a title query, then take their union. | 5,718 |
| 2. Select language | Keep articles whose language field is English. | 1,806 |
| 3. Require topical salience | Require NVIDIA in the headline and an entity mention frequency of at least two. | 679 |
| 4. Deduplicate | Normalize title words and keep one article per normalized title key. | 594 |
| 5. Match watch themes | Scan the headline and description for regex patterns covering earnings, leadership, export controls, and legal themes. | 161 |
The implementation used APITube entity ID 1280220 and the API’s entity-frequency and language fields. These counts describe the author’s reported implementation and results; they are not independently validated effectiveness scores.

Why combine entity and headline searches?
The author’s rationale is that neither retrieval route alone catches every article found by the other. The reported entity-ID query returned 5,538 unique articles, while the title query for “nvidia” returned 1,831; combining them produced the 5,718-article union. The article also reports 180 headline hits without an extracted NVIDIA entity, one example of why relying only on entity extraction could omit material.
There is a discrepancy in the article’s headline-query arithmetic. It says the headline search found 29.8% of entity-matched coverage and missed 3,890 articles. But 5,718 minus 3,890 is 1,828, not the reported 1,831 headline results; meanwhile, 29.8% of 5,718 is about 1,704. A secondary analysis by The Clarity also flags the inconsistency. Treat those particular comparison figures as unresolved rather than as a precise measure of search recall.

What the language filter trades away
English-language processing reduced the set from 5,718 to 1,806, or 31.6% of the measured corpus. The article’s reported language shares for that same week were English 31.6%, German 9.4%, Spanish 7.4%, Chinese 6.4%, French 5.7%, Italian 4.9%, Japanese 4.2%, and Portuguese 4.1%.

An English-only filter makes English theme terms usable, but it excludes about 68.4% of the articles in this pull before the later rules run. That may be a deliberate choice for a reviewer who can act on English-language coverage; it is not a language-neutral picture of NVIDIA news. The author captures the decision plainly: “That’s a choice, not a default.”

Where relevance and deduplication can miss stories
Requiring NVIDIA in the headline plus at least two entity mentions is intended to reduce passing references. It can also remove a relevant article whose headline omits the company name or whose extraction records fewer mentions. The source does not report a manual review of excluded articles, so the size of either effect is unknown.
Title normalization removed 12.5% of the stage-three survivors as near-duplicates, taking the count from 679 to 594. Deduplication reduces repeated coverage, but a normalized-title key can potentially treat distinct stories with similar wording as one, or leave duplicates whose headlines differ substantially. The article does not quantify those error cases.

The final theme step searches only headline and description text for patterns associated with earnings, leadership, export controls, and legal events. A story about an important NVIDIA development may not use the expected terms, and a matching phrase may not indicate a material event. The reported alert count alone cannot establish recall or precision for any of the four themes.

For a similar company-news workflow, the example is most useful as a sequence of explicit choices rather than a ready-made guarantee. A source would need searchable entity identifiers, headline search, language metadata, pagination, and practical access to historical records. To assess whether the resulting alerts are good, retain the excluded records and audit samples from both included and excluded groups against a clear definition of a relevant event.

- Choose the review burden: relaxing language, headline, or mention-frequency rules may improve coverage while increasing reading volume.
- Measure omissions: review a sample of excluded stories, especially across languages and stories without NVIDIA in the headline.
- Check duplicate decisions: inspect both merged and retained records to see whether title normalization is too aggressive or too permissive.
- Version the rules and snapshot the data: save query settings, timestamps, and results so later index changes can be distinguished from changes in the filter.
- Evaluate themes separately: check earnings, leadership, export-control, and legal alerts independently rather than treating the combined total as a quality score.
Without those checks, a smaller stream is easier to read but not demonstrably more complete or accurate. The reported 5,718-to-161 reduction is a concrete example of filtering choices—not a universal ratio for NVIDIA coverage or a validated alerting benchmark.
