In 20 days, focus on turning your existing development experience into clear security reasoning: explain a risk, show how it appears in code or design, describe a practical fix, and say how you would verify that fix. Use the plan below as a focused crash course, not a guarantee of interview readiness; the right emphasis depends on the job description, your stack, and the interview format.
How to use the 20 days
Repeat this five-part answer pattern for every vulnerability you study:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Name the risk and its boundary conditions. Be precise about what must be true for it to occur.
- Explain the impact. Describe what an attacker could access, change, expose, or disrupt.
- Connect it to implementation. Identify the route, data access, rendering, authentication, configuration, or dependency decision that could introduce it.
- Propose a mitigation. Explain the control and where it belongs in the application.
- Verify the fix. Describe a test, code review, or other check that would demonstrate the behavior is safer.
Keep the examples tied to the language and framework in the job description. The OWASP Top 10 is a useful awareness map, but it is not a complete test plan. OWASP’s application-security curriculum connects awareness to the Application Security Verification Standard (ASVS) for verification and the Software Assurance Maturity Model (SAMM) for broader assurance practices. Days 1–4: Map core web risks to your stack
Review the OWASP Top 10 and connect the risks most relevant to the role to concrete parts of an application: routes and authorization, data access, authentication, rendering, configuration, and third-party dependencies. For each one, prepare a brief explanation and a mitigation example in your own stack.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not aim to recite category names alone. A stronger answer explains the conditions that make a flaw exploitable and what a secure implementation changes. Use the role’s job description to decide which application areas deserve the most attention. OWASP Application Security Curriculum
Days 5–9: Practice secure implementation and code review
Shift from identifying risks to recognizing the coding habits and design controls that prevent them. OWASP’s developer guidance points to web and API risks as well as proactive controls. Apply those ideas while reviewing code in your language and framework. OWASP Secure Coding Practices Quick Reference Guide

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Check whether access control is enforced for the requested resource, not merely inferred from a user interface or route parameter.
- Trace input through validation and into data handling or output; consider whether the context changes how it must be handled.
- Look for safe handling of sensitive data, secure defaults, and appropriate identity checks.
- Review logging for useful security signals without unnecessarily exposing sensitive information.
For each issue you find, explain the root cause, the likely impact, a targeted correction, and how a test or review would catch a regression. OWASP’s Certified Secure Developer project makes an important distinction: “Writing secure code != testing the security of code with tools.” Use tools as one part of assurance, not as a substitute for secure implementation and reasoning. Days 10–14: Learn by testing in an authorized environment
Use hands-on exercises to make vulnerability mechanics and remediation more concrete. OWASP’s guidance points developers to the free, self-paced PortSwigger Web Security Academy labs and also references SecureFlag exercises. Choose a lab or exercise that matches a risk you have studied; identify the vulnerable behavior, explain its cause, and state what change would prevent it.

Only test applications and environments for which you have explicit authorization. Training labs are appropriate practice environments; do not probe a real service simply because it is publicly reachable. OWASP Secure Coding Practices Quick Reference Guide
Days 15–17: Rehearse an application-security workflow
Prepare to discuss AppSec as an ongoing engineering process rather than a one-time scan. OWASP’s Secure My App guidance describes a workflow that includes assessing an application, scanning it, reviewing dependencies, fixing issues, and monitoring continuously. OWASP Secure My App

- Assess: Establish what the application does, what data and trust boundaries matter, and where the highest risks may be.
- Scan: Use suitable security checks as one input to identifying potential issues.
- Review dependencies: Consider third-party components as part of the application’s risk picture.
- Fix: Prioritize findings, implement changes, and communicate severity and trade-offs to engineering and product peers.
- Monitor: Keep security checks and attention to new findings in the continuing development process.
In an interview scenario, explain how you would decide what to address first and how you would confirm a fix. Avoid treating a scanner result as a complete account of exploitability or business impact.

- For design, describe where a control belongs and how it should behave when assumptions fail.
- For prioritization, explain the impact and practical context behind a finding, then describe how you would communicate the trade-off.
- For verification, name the check that would show the fix works and help prevent recurrence.
This schedule is a practical way to organize study, not a formal OWASP syllabus. The available sources do not establish a required number of study hours, an optimal workload, or that 20 days is enough for a particular hiring process.
Choose resources for the job you are targeting
Prioritize official material for shared concepts, hands-on practice for understanding how flaws behave, and code exercises in your own stack for interview relevance. A community discussion also recommends Alice and Bob Learn Application Security as an optional book for developers moving into AppSec; its current edition and availability have not been established. It is not necessary to complete this plan. Community discussion on AppSec learning resources
