7 Days to Die console commands let a host inspect players, grant permissions, send messages, save or stop a server, spawn entities, award items and XP, apply buffs, and change game time. On PC, press F1 to open the console. If that does not work, try the key assigned by your keyboard layout, such as F2, the quote key, @, Ö, Ø, or Ñ.

There is no permanently reliable “complete” list independent of the game build. The command wiki describes a list checked against version 3.2.0 (b9) and re-checked on 3.3.0 (b18), while older guides target 3.2. Names, arguments and permissions can change after patches. Treat the tables below as a practical reference, then run help or help <command> in your own console before using a command on a live world.

How to open the 7 Days to Die console
Launch the game, load a world or connect to the server, and press the console key. On a standard PC keyboard that is usually F1. Non-US layouts can use a different key; search-result documentation also identifies F2, the quote key, @, Ö, Ø, and Ñ as possible bindings. If none opens the console, check the keyboard layout selected by your operating system and the game’s current key bindings.
Commands are entered on one line and confirmed with Enter. The console normally echoes an error when a command is unknown, an argument is missing, or your permission level is too low. Keep the console open while testing so you can read that feedback rather than guessing.

Use the built-in help before relying on a syntax example
Because the command set changes between builds, the safest “full list” is the one generated by your installation:
- Open the console.
- Enter
helpto print available commands. - Enter
help <command>, replacing<command>with the command you intend to use. - Copy the argument order, brackets and capitalization shown by the game.
- Run the command first in a disposable test world if it changes time, inventory, permissions or entities.
For item discovery, listitems <filter> searches item names from inside the console. Internal item IDs, rather than the display name shown in a menu, may be required by giveself. A current version reference is the 7D2D Wiki command page, which labels its list for V3.3 and says it was verified against V3.2.0 (b9) and re-checked on V3.3.0 (b18).

Start with player identity commands whenever another command needs a target. The short aliases are useful at the console, but the long names are easier to recognize in scripts and operating notes.

Do not guess whether a command accepts a player name, entity ID or platform ID. Run lpi, then consult help kick or help ban in the same build. A name can contain spaces or differ from the platform identifier, while an entity ID can change after a reconnect.
Permissions: giving admin access and changing command levels
admin add
admin add assigns a permission level to a player. Level 0 means full access according to the command references. First obtain the player’s identifier with listplayerids; then use the exact argument order printed by help admin. Granting level 0 on a shared server is equivalent to handing over every administrative capability, so reserve it for trusted operators.

cp add
cp add changes the permission level required to run a particular command. This is separate from granting a player’s level: admin add changes who a person is, while cp add changes the access threshold for a command. Document any custom thresholds for other moderators, and verify the result with the relevant help output because level numbering and accepted arguments can vary.
Permission troubleshooting
- If the console says you lack permission, confirm that you are logged into the server account you edited, not merely playing locally.
- Run
lpiagain after a reconnect; the target’s platform or entity identifier may differ. - Check that you did not accidentally change the command’s required level with
cp add. - Test with a harmless command such as
helpbefore trying inventory or world-changing operations.
Messaging, saving and shutting down safely
Broadcast and private messages
say sends a message to all players. sayplayer, also shown as pm in command references, sends a private message to one player. Use lpi to identify the recipient and check help sayplayer for whether your build expects an ID, a name, or a quoted name containing spaces.
Save before maintenance
saveworld, with the alias sa, writes the current world state. Run it before kicking players or stopping a server, and allow the console to report completion before proceeding. A save command is not a substitute for independent backups of the server’s save directory.
Planned restart sequence
- Use
sayto announce the maintenance window. - Run
saveworld(orsa). - Run
kickallso clients are not writing to the world during shutdown. - Run
shutdownand wait for the server process to exit cleanly. - Restart the server using your normal host or service manager, then reconnect and check the world.
pplist lists persistent player data. It can help distinguish a player’s saved record from their current online entity, but use help pplist for the output and filtering syntax available in your build.
Giving items, spawning entities and awarding XP
giveself
giveself gives an item to the player running the command. The documented form includes an item name, a quality value from 1 through 6, a count, an inventory-placement option, and a mod-spawning option:

giveself itemName [qualityLevel=6] [count=1] [putInInventory=false] [spawnWithMods=true]This form is reported in command references but should still be confirmed with help giveself. Use internal IDs, not necessarily the human-readable name. Run listitems <filter> to search likely IDs. For example, references use IDs such as gunAK47 and meleeToolPickaxeIron; an ID that worked in one release may be renamed or removed in another.
giveselfxp
giveselfxp grants experience to the executing player. Check help giveselfxp for the amount argument and whether the command accepts only a number or additional options. Apply a modest test amount first if you are trying to preserve normal progression.
spawnentity (se)
spawnentity, abbreviated se, can create a zombie, animal or NPC. Documentation shows more than one syntax pattern, including an entity name with coordinates and a player ID with an entity ID. That conflict is precisely why you should run help se in your build. In debug mode, entering se may print available entity IDs. Spawn away from valuable bases: an unexpected entity can damage structures, consume server resources or remain active after players leave.
Buffs
buff applies a buff to yourself, while buffplayer applies one to another player. Buff names are associated with the game’s buffs.xml; use help buff and help buffplayer to confirm the accepted name and target format. Do not assume that a display label is the internal buff ID.

settime (alias st) changes the in-game clock, and gettime (alias gt) prints the current day and time. Published command summaries disagree about the accepted range: one describes a 0–24,000 scale, with 8,000 representing roughly 8:00 a.m.; another describes a 0–23 range. They may refer to different builds or parsing modes. Run help settime before entering a value.

Some command references specifically warn against settime 0 because it can crash the game. Save first, avoid testing a boundary value on a valuable world, and prefer a small, documented change. If the command is rejected, use gettime to inspect the format your server reports rather than repeatedly trying values from another guide.
Whitelist warning: one entry changes who can join
The whitelist has a counterintuitive behavior: once even one whitelist entry exists, players not on that list can no longer join. Before adding an entry, record the intended player identifiers and make sure every regular player is included. If friends suddenly receive join failures after a whitelist change, inspect and correct the list rather than changing unrelated permissions. Use the whitelist commands shown by help, since the exact add, remove and list syntax is version-sensitive.
Common failures and recovery steps
The console will not open
- Try F1, then the alternate layout keys listed above.
- Switch temporarily to the keyboard layout used when the game was installed and test again.
- Confirm you are in a game or connected server session, not only at a launcher screen.
“Unknown command” or invalid arguments
- Enter
helpto see whether the command exists in this release. - Enter
help <command>and match every required argument. - Check aliases:
lp/listplayers,lpi/listplayerids,sa/saveworld,se/spawnentity,st/settime, andgt/gettime. - Use quotes if the help output indicates a name containing spaces must be treated as one argument.
The command runs but affects nobody
Re-run listplayers and listplayerids, then target the identifier shown for the current connection. For a self-targeted command, remove the target argument if the help text indicates that the command operates on the executor.
The world is at risk
Stop experimenting, run saveworld if the server is stable, and make a separate copy of the save files before further testing. For time changes or entity spawning, restore a backup rather than trying to reverse an unknown command sequence.
Version notes and trustworthy references
Search-result guides describe V3.2 command behavior, while the V3.3 command reference is dated and version-labeled. Additional command summaries are available from Hosthavoc, Game Host Bros, Game Server Kings, and GamesOMG. These pages are useful cross-checks, not replacements for the in-game help output. Patch notes can alter names, aliases, ranges and permission handling, so date-stamp any command sheet you maintain for moderators.
