7 Days to Die item IDs are internal names, not numeric codes. To spawn an item, open the game console and run giveself <item ID>, replacing the placeholder with the exact ID. For example, an ID such as gunMGT1AK47 is the kind of string the command expects.

Console commands are controlled by permission levels. Level 0 is the highest permission, while a player with no explicitly assigned level normally has level 1000. On a dedicated server, an administrator can grant access with admin add <name, entity id or platform id> 0; the server records that access in serveradmin.xml.

What item IDs and console commands do
An item ID is the name the game uses internally for an item. It is usually a text identifier rather than an item number. The ID must match the spelling and capitalization expected by the build you are running. A command can be valid in one release and fail in another if an item was renamed, removed, or added.
Console commands provide administrative and world-management controls. Depending on your permission level, you can create items, moderate players, change time or weather, save the world, and stop the server. The command itself does not bypass permissions: the player issuing it must have the level required for that command.

Quick procedure: spawn an item
- Confirm access. If the console rejects the command, check your player permission and the command’s configured level with
cp list. - Find the exact ID. Search a current item list, or use the game’s own command help and autocomplete behavior where available. A searchable, paginated list is available at commands.gg; 7dtd.tools provides a list with copy-to-clipboard controls.
- Open the console. Use the console key configured for your keyboard and platform, then wait for the input prompt.
- Run the command. Enter
giveself <item ID>, substituting the ID you found. For the example ID, the command isgiveself gunMGT1AK47. - Check the result. Look for the item in the expected inventory or stack. If nothing is granted, recheck the ID, your permission, and whether the list matches your game version.
The documented core syntax is the command followed by an item ID. Do not assume that an ID copied from an older list, a different platform, or a different server export will work in your installation.
How to find a build-compatible item ID
Start with the game’s own help
Run help to display available commands. For details about one command, use help <command>, such as help giveself. This is the safest way to confirm that your current build recognizes the command and to see the syntax it exposes.

External indexes are useful when you know an item’s display name but not its internal ID. Search for the item, copy the complete identifier, and paste it into the console without changing punctuation or letter case. Keep the list open alongside the game so you can compare the item’s name and category before spawning it.

Published totals do not agree. One page reports 1,320 IDs for V3.2, while a V3.3.0 dedicated-server export reports 958. The figures are not reconciled, and neither should be treated as a universal count. A list may include only a particular edition, server export, localization, or content state.
Verify after updates
After a game or server update, test a known ID and run help giveself. If an item disappears from a list or the command returns an unknown-item error, use a list generated for the same build rather than repeatedly trying older IDs.
Permission levels and why commands fail
Level 0 is the maximum privilege
The permission scale runs from the most privileged level at 0 toward less privileged levels at higher numbers. A player without an explicitly assigned level has level 1000. A command can therefore work for an administrator and fail for an ordinary player even when both type exactly the same text.

Each command has a required permission level. The server checks the issuing player’s level against that requirement before executing the command. If a command is denied, changing the item ID will not solve the problem; an authorized administrator must adjust access or run the command.
Inspect the current command permissions
Run cp list to display the current permission level assigned to each command. This lets you see whether giveself, moderation commands, or world controls have been customized on your server.
To change a per-command permission, use the cp command’s set operation. Because the exact argument order can vary by build, run help cp first and follow the syntax shown by your installation instead of copying a command from an unrelated version.

Granting administrator access on a dedicated server
- Join the server with an account that already has authority to manage administrators.
- Identify the target player. The
lpicommand lists connected players and their identifiers. - Run
admin add <name, entity id or platform id> 0, replacing the placeholder with the player’s name, entity ID, or platform ID. - Have the player reconnect or retry the command if the new permission is not recognized immediately.
- Confirm the result with
cp listor a harmless command such ashelp.
On dedicated servers, administrator assignments are persisted in serveradmin.xml. Treat that file as configuration data: back it up before manual edits, keep it private, and avoid editing it while the server is writing changes.

Moderation commands: avoid irreversible mistakes
Kick versus ban
kick is a temporary removal from the current session. A kicked player can normally reconnect if they still have access. ban blocks the player for a specified duration. The supported units include minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years; the command’s help output defines the exact syntax and whether a reason is accepted in your build.
Use kickall and shutdown deliberately
kickall disconnects every connected player, so it is unsuitable for testing a command on one person. shutdown stops the server and can interrupt players who have not saved. Announce the action, run saveworld (or its sa alias) when appropriate, and verify the command syntax with help shutdown before executing it.
Troubleshooting checklist
“Unknown command”
- Run
helpand confirm the command exists in this build. - Check spelling; command names and item IDs must be entered exactly.
- Make sure you are connected to the intended server or world.
“You do not have permission”
- Run
cp listto see the command’s required level. - Check your own assigned level; an unassigned player defaults to 1000.
- Ask an authorized administrator to grant access or execute the command.
The item does not appear
- Confirm that you used
giveselffollowed by the internal ID, not the item’s display name. - Copy the ID again from a list that matches your game or server version.
- Test another known ID to distinguish an inventory issue from an invalid identifier.
Admin access disappears after a restart
On a dedicated server, verify that the assignment was written to serveradmin.xml, that the server process can write its configuration directory, and that you restarted the correct instance. Do not overwrite the file with a copy from a different server or version.
Version differences and safe operating practice
The command references currently circulating online do not all describe the same release. A reference dated September 28, 2026 is described as covering V3.1.0, while other pages list V3.2 or V3.3.0 material. Because coverage is inconsistent, the help output from your own console is the authoritative check for commands and argument order available in that installation.

- Test commands on a backup world before using them on a long-running shared server.
- Limit administrator access to named accounts and review
serveradmin.xmlafter staff changes. - Prefer the least privilege that lets a moderator do the job; reserve level 0 for full administrators.
With the exact ID, the correct permission, and a version-matched syntax check from help, the workflow is straightforward: identify the internal name, run giveself, and verify the result in-game. For moderation or world controls, inspect cp list first so a failed command is not mistaken for a bad argument.
