Security operations are moving toward AI-assisted prioritization, detection, triage and response. AI agents are becoming identities that need least privilege and lifecycle control. Vulnerability management is shifting from periodic human queues to continuous, risk-based remediation. Governance is becoming cross-functional, with named decision rights and an audit trail. Routine work is moving to automation, while people take on more judgment and oversight.
The change runs on both sides of the contest. Attackers can use the same technology to increase the scale and speed of their operations, so defenders are adopting AI under pressure rather than as an optional upgrade.

What the evidence covers
The five shifts draw on CISO-focused surveys, analyst research, a practitioner synthesis and government guidance. They are not one study. 1. Security operations shift toward AI-assisted prioritization and response
In the traditional model, analysts work through alert and finding queues, and prioritization depends largely on human triage. The newer pattern is software that ranks risk, analyzes threat data, flags anomalies and helps speed up incident response and recovery. The World Economic Forum’s Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026, in its chapter on “AI for cybersecurity,” describes acceleration across detection, triage, response, log analysis and compliance reporting.

Adoption is already widespread among surveyed organizations. WEF reports that 77% had adopted AI for cybersecurity. The most frequently reported uses were phishing detection (52%), intrusion and anomaly response (46%) and user-behaviour analytics (40%). These are adoption figures, not measured reductions in incidents or response times.
CISO priorities point the same way. In an Oxford Economics survey of 650 CISOs conducted in July and August 2025 across nine countries (Australia, France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US), 92% prioritized improving threat detection and response and 68% were investing in AI cybersecurity. Cisco and Splunk announced the findings on February 24, 2026. A stated priority is not evidence that detection has improved.
IBM chief executive Arvind Krishna, quoted by WEF, makes the defender’s case: “Criminals are always willing to use all possible ways to get access to value, much of which is contained in the cyber infrastructure. Consequently, to stay ahead, those of us who defend must use every tool at our disposal – which now includes agentic AI.”

The Australian Cyber Security Centre and partner agencies frame the opportunity around context, remediation, secure use and human oversight. Their point matters for operations: a finding that is not prioritized and fixed does not reduce exposure, so faster detection only pays off when it feeds remediation. In practice, that means:
- Triage is ordered by context and likely impact, not only by the order in which alerts arrive.
- Log analysis and compliance reporting can be accelerated, with analysts reviewing the output rather than accepting it unchecked.
- Performance is judged by how long fixes take to land, not by how many alerts are closed.
2. AI agents become identities that need least privilege and lifecycle control
Deloitte describes the access question as changing. The model is shifting from simply “who can access what” to “who (or what) can access what, at what time, and on whose behalf.” Once software agents can call tools, read data and act in connected systems, they need to be managed in the identity program alongside employees and service accounts.
The Oxford Economics survey found 78% of CISOs prioritizing identity and access management, which suggests the identity problem is already on the agenda. Deloitte’s analysis points to five controls, which work best in sequence:

- One Unified Security System, Powered by 1st-Gen aosuBase: 32GB of local storage comes ready to use, holding about 120 days of loop recording. No subscription required. Connect up to 4 cameras to one base with a stable wireless connection and centralized local storage. Recordings saved to aosuBase are event-based, triggered by detected activity.
- Multi-Cam Live View for All-at-Once Monitoring: Watch up to four live camera feeds simultaneously in the aosu app and monitor multiple areas on one screen without opening each camera individually. Live View is available through the aosu app only; the base does not support HDMI or TV output.
- 360° Coverage with Pan, Tilt, and Smart Auto Tracking: Pan and tilt to see all around your property. When activity is detected, the camera automatically follows people and other movement to keep the action in view while recording, giving you a more complete view of what happens around your home.
- 2K (3MP) Clarity with Full-Color Night Vision: Capture clear details in 2K and zoom in up to 6x for a closer look. Built-in spotlights enable full-color night vision, helping you see important color details like clothing and vehicles after dark. For more discreet monitoring, switch to infrared mode for black-and-white night vision without visible lighting.
- Quick Setup with a Pre-Paired System: Connect aosuBase to your router's LAN port with the included Ethernet cable. Cameras connect wirelessly to aosuBase instead of your home Wi-Fi. The system comes pre-paired, so simply power on the cameras and complete setup in the app without pairing each camera one by one. The cameras are designed to work with the included aosuBase, and add-on cameras connect through the base as well.
- Inventory agents and their reach. Record each agent, the tools it can call, the data stores it can read and the connected systems it can change.
- Give each agent its own identity. Shared credentials make it impossible to tell which agent performed an action.
- Apply least privilege and manage the lifecycle. Grant only the access the agent’s task needs, and review or retire that access when the task changes or ends.
- Log and monitor activity. Watch for abnormal tool use, privilege escalation, unusual data access, goal deviation, interactions with connected systems and changes in behavior.
- Define approval and pause rules in advance. Decide which actions require a human to approve them, and which events trigger a pause or escalation.
The “on whose behalf” part of Deloitte’s wording has a practical consequence. An agent acting for a person needs logs that record both the agent and the authority it was acting under. This is an inference from the wording rather than a stated requirement, but it is the detail that most often gets lost when agents are added to existing access models.
3. Vulnerability management moves from periodic queues to continuous, risk-based remediation
Vulnerability management has traditionally run on schedules: scan, queue, review, patch in cycles. The Cloud Security Alliance’s July 28, 2026 paper reports that practitioners see AI-enabled vulnerability and exploit discovery challenging those processes. It describes a shift toward continuous, AI-assisted vulnerability management in which detection, validation and remediation happen at machine speed, while meaningful human accountability is retained.
Deloitte’s interviews show the time pressure. An anonymized CISO at a major American biopharmaceutical company said: “Back in the day, if a vulnerability got introduced, you had at least weeks. These days it’s getting down to hours.” This is one executive’s account, not a measured industry average.

Deloitte asks the question directly in a section heading: “When everyone owns AI, who owns the risk and the outcome?” Its answer is that AI risk crosses cyber, operations, data, compliance, vendors, finance and business functions, so no single team can own all of it. Deloitte calls for clear decision rights, named ownership, measurable controls and continuous oversight.

What named decision rights should cover
- Who approves a new AI agent or AI-enabled tool before it reaches production data.
- Who owns vendor AI risk and reviews how a vendor handles your data.
- Who can pause or revoke an agent, and what evidence is required to do so.
- Which measurable controls are reviewed, how often, and by whom.
- What records are kept so that each decision can be audited afterwards.
Deloitte’s 2026 Global Technology Leadership Study reports that 80% of automation leaders plan to accelerate investment in AI agents, while 21% of organizations report mature agentic AI governance. Read together, the two figures show investment moving ahead of mature oversight.
5. Repetitive work goes to automation, and judgment stays with people
The World Economic Forum argues that AI can take repetitive, high-volume tasks while people focus more on strategy, governance, policy and contextual decisions. That division is a useful test for any automation plan: automate the volume, keep the judgment with people.
| Typically automated | Kept with people |
|---|---|
| Repetitive, high-volume tasks such as triage and log analysis | Strategy and policy decisions |
| Compliance reporting, with analyst review of the output | Governance decisions and accountability for outcomes |
| Routine detection and response steps within pre-approved limits | Contextual decisions in unusual situations |
WEF’s 2026 survey of organizations also identifies the main barriers to adoption: insufficient skills or knowledge (54%), the need for human oversight (41%) and uncertainty about risk (39%). The skills figure is the largest, which makes training a constraint on automation rather than an afterthought.
SANS’s 2026 AI survey findings show the gap between use and maturity. 78% of respondents report active AI use in cybersecurity, but only 27% describe their deployments as mature production. 63% of practitioners see significant AI shortcomings in threat detection and response. Treat AI output as a draft to be validated against known outcomes before it drives a containment or remediation decision, and keep staff trained to check it.
What AI does not replace
The five shifts change how security work is organized. They do not change what must be true underneath. The areas that remain the foundation are:
- Secure configuration of systems, cloud services and endpoints
- Timely patching
- Identity and access management, now extended to agents
- Monitoring and logging
- Network segmentation
- Tested incident response
Government guidance is direct on this point. National cyber agencies advise organizations to improve their defenses and not to expect AI deployment alone to compensate for weak fundamentals. AI raises the value of these basics, because automated systems act on whatever access, configuration and logging already exist.
