Short answer: Gemini has several workflows that may suit Google users better, but the evidence does not support saying it has five features ChatGPT cannot match. Both products offer substantial overlap—including Deep Research, Canvas, voice, file analysis, and proactive tools. The meaningful differences are in particular integrations, inputs, and outputs, and availability depends on region, plan, device, and rollout. This comparison reflects official product information available through October 7, 2026.
1. Gemini Live can connect a live conversation to Google services
Google describes Gemini Live integrations with Maps, Calendar, Tasks, and Keep, allowing users to get contextual help and take actions through those services. That can make Live more useful when a conversation needs to draw on a Google workflow rather than remain a standalone chat. Google announced the integrations on May 20, 2025, alongside a rollout of camera and screen sharing on Android and iOS; the announcement included platform, age, and availability qualifications. Google’s announcement is evidence of the announced workflow, not a guarantee that every account has it today.

ChatGPT also offers integrations and ongoing workspaces, but its documented model differs: Projects group conversations, files, and instructions, and supported app connections can bring in external context. Google Drive links and Slack are among the documented connections, subject to connection and sync limits. See OpenAI’s Projects documentation. The practical distinction is which services you already use and what your account can connect—not that one assistant can use outside context and the other cannot.

Gemini Live’s announced camera and screen-sharing options let a user show the assistant what is in front of the camera or on the device display while talking. This is a different interaction from describing a screen or attaching a still image: the conversation can be grounded in what the user chooses to share in the moment. Google announced the rollout for Android and iOS in May 2025, but did not establish that it is universally available across accounts or locations.

Available in White, Black, and Green.
- 16 Sleep Sounds, Fully Customizable: Choose from 16 built-in sleep sounds that play straight from the speaker with no phone, no app, and no subscription. Set a 15, 30, or 60-minute sleep timer and the sound fades out by itself. Want a different library? Connect it to any PC with the included USB-C cable and swap out every sound stored on the device.
ChatGPT voice is not simply text chat read aloud. OpenAI documents Live, Advanced, and Standard voice experiences, with options affected by plan, workspace, region, app version, and controls. Its documentation says Live does not initially support video or screen sharing; Advanced offers certain mobile video or screen-sharing capabilities. The specific experience therefore depends on the mode and device. Check OpenAI’s Voice Mode FAQ and the Gemini app’s current controls before choosing based on this distinction.
3. Gemini Canvas emphasizes shareable, interactive outputs
Gemini Canvas is a writing and coding workspace where users can develop material and preview HTML or React prototypes. Google has also described Canvas creations such as interactive infographics, quizzes, and Audio Overviews. Those outputs make the workflow notable when the goal is a listenable summary or a small interactive artifact, rather than a conventional text response. Google’s March 2025 announcement introduced Canvas and Audio Overview; its May 2025 announcement described later creation options and said Audio Overviews were available in 45 languages. That language figure is Google’s stated availability, not a guarantee for every account or a measure of output quality.

ChatGPT also has Canvas, along with audio features and file or image analysis. The useful comparison is the deliverable and workflow: previewing a prototype, generating a quiz, or listening to a source-based overview may point toward Gemini; writing, coding, or revising in a Canvas workspace is not exclusive to it. OpenAI’s capabilities overview documents its overlapping tools. Neither vendor’s feature pages establish a controlled comparison of quality.

4. Google-native context and personalization may fit existing Google workflows
Gemini’s connection to Google services and its customizable Gems can be useful when a person wants a tailored assistant in the context of Google’s apps. Google described Gems and app connections in its March 13, 2025 announcement. This is an implementation advantage for some Google-centered workflows, not proof that ChatGPT lacks personalization or connected context.

ChatGPT provides custom GPTs, Memory, and Projects, which serve related but differently structured purposes. Projects keep chats, files, and instructions together for ongoing work; custom GPTs can be configured for particular tasks. The appropriate choice depends on where the relevant material lives and which controls are available on the user’s plan. OpenAI’s capabilities overview and Projects guide describe these features.
5. Gemini’s newer proactive tools are worth watching, but they are not a category ChatGPT lacks
Google announced Daily Brief and Gemini Spark on May 19, 2026, describing Spark as a personal agent designed to manage tasks proactively under user direction. Google also announced Gemini Agent in November 2025 as experimental, with an initial rollout to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Its examples combined Gmail and Calendar context with web browsing and included confirmation for critical actions. These are dated announcements with specific rollout limits, not evidence that every Gemini user has the tools now. See Google’s May 2026 announcement and its Gemini Agent announcement.

ChatGPT also documents scheduled tasks and agent-like capabilities, so it would be misleading to describe proactive assistance as a Gemini-only feature. OpenAI’s capabilities overview and agent announcement cover its offerings. Compare the precise task, the connected services, how much autonomy the tool has, and when it asks for confirmation.
Does Gemini have Deep Research that ChatGPT does not?
No. Both products document Deep Research. Google said Gemini Deep Research could incorporate user-provided private PDFs and images alongside public information in reports. OpenAI documents Deep Research as well as file uploads and analysis. The meaningful question is how each tool handles the sources and deliverable you need, and whether the relevant feature is enabled for your account. Google’s announcement is at Google’s May 2025 product update; OpenAI’s documented feature set is in its capabilities overview.

How to choose between Gemini and ChatGPT for these workflows
- Start with the task: decide whether you need live camera or screen context, a connected Google service, a research report, an interactive creation, or a scheduled action.
- Check inputs and outputs: confirm whether the workflow accepts text, files, images, camera, screen, or voice, and whether the result is a report, audio overview, prototype, or action.
- Verify account access: check the current app, plan, region, workspace settings, and rollout status; an announcement is not proof of access on every account.
- Review integrations and control: identify which services can be connected and whether actions require your confirmation.
- Use the current product documentation: features and entitlements change, and the announcements cited here describe dated releases rather than a permanent feature matrix.
Google reported more than 900 million monthly Gemini users across 230 countries and more than 70 languages in its May 19, 2026 announcement. That is a company-reported reach figure, not an independent measure of feature quality or a basis for deciding which assistant is better.
