For a balanced 1080p gaming build, the GeForce RTX 5060 8GB is a sensible mainstream pick; the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB is worth considering when extra video memory matters, while the Arc B580 can be a value alternative at the right local price. There is no universal winner: independent comparisons use different games and test methods, and the five cards below are a use-case shortlist rather than a single controlled ranking.

How the five cards differ for 1080p

Graphics card Best suited to Memory What the evidence supports
GeForce RTX 5060 Balanced mainstream 1080p gaming 8GB Tom’s Hardware names it its best 1080p gaming GPU and identifies it as a value contender in its own hierarchy. ComputerBase measured a 93 FPS 1080p geometric mean in its test suite.
Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB Buyers who want more memory and strong raster performance 16GB ComputerBase measured a 102 FPS 1080p geometric mean for the 16GB variant in its test suite, ahead of the RTX 5060 and Arc B580 in that comparison.
Intel Arc B580 Budget-conscious buyers if local pricing is attractive 12GB ComputerBase measured a 74 FPS 1080p geometric mean. Tom’s Hardware’s hierarchy reports the RTX 5060 was 24% faster at 1080p in its own testing.
GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Buyers who specifically want an NVIDIA option with more memory 16GB A possible higher-memory alternative, but Tom’s Hardware said the 5060 Ti family was overpriced in its mid-2026 market discussion. No directly comparable 1080p result is established here.
GeForce RTX 5070 Buyers planning a likely move to 1440p Not stated in the cited guide Newegg Insider treats it as more GPU than strict 1080p needs. It is an upgrade path, not a 1080p value pick.

The ComputerBase figures are suite-level geometric means, not expected frame rates in every game. Its April 2026 comparison tested the RX 9060 XT 16GB, RTX 5060 8GB and Arc B580 12GB together; it does not provide a controlled five-card comparison covering the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070. Tom’s Hardware’s rankings reflect a separate test suite, so differences between outlets should not be read as a contradiction-free universal ranking. ComputerBase’s RX 9060 XT test and Tom’s Hardware’s GPU hierarchy provide the test context.

Which card fits your needs?

GeForce RTX 5060 8GB: the balanced mainstream choice

Tom’s Hardware names the RTX 5060 its best 1080p gaming GPU, citing performance in popular competitive games and DLSS flexibility. That makes it a straightforward option for a mainstream 1080p system, especially if the games you play benefit from NVIDIA’s upscaling and frame-generation features. Tom’s Hardware also describes it as competing for 1080p performance per dollar in its own hierarchy. Check the card’s current price against competing models rather than treating that label as a guarantee of value in every region.

The trade-off is 8GB of VRAM. It can be limiting in demanding games or with frame generation, depending on the title and settings. For competitive games, older releases or reduced texture settings, 8GB can still be appropriate; it is not an automatic disqualifier for 1080p. Tom’s Hardware’s RTX 5060 review discusses the card’s performance and memory considerations.

Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB: the higher-memory option

Choose the 16GB model if you want more memory headroom and the price is competitive. In ComputerBase’s 1080p raster performance rating, the 16GB RX 9060 XT reached a 102 FPS geometric mean, compared with 93 FPS for the RTX 5060 8GB and 74 FPS for the Arc B580 12GB. ComputerBase also put the RX 9060 XT 16GB ahead in its four-game ray-tracing comparison. These are results from that outlet’s selection of games and settings, not a promise that it leads in every title.

Be careful to distinguish the 16GB version from the RX 9060 XT 8GB: they are different configurations, and the cited ComputerBase result is specifically for the 16GB card. Tom’s Hardware also identifies the RX 9060 XT 8GB as a 1080p value contender in its own hierarchy, but that does not make its performance or memory capacity interchangeable with the 16GB model. ComputerBase’s benchmark comparison specifies the tested 16GB variant.

Intel Arc B580 12GB: a value alternative when the price is right

The B580’s 12GB of memory gives it more capacity than the 8GB RTX 5060, but memory size alone does not determine frame rate. ComputerBase measured a 74 FPS geometric mean for the B580 in its 1080p comparison, while Tom’s Hardware reports the RTX 5060 was 24% faster at 1080p in its own hierarchy. Consider the B580 when its current local price makes that performance trade-off worthwhile and the games you play work well with Intel’s drivers.

Before buying, check recent compatibility reports for the specific games you play, as driver and game behavior can affect the experience. The B580 is PCIe 4.0 x8 by design, as Newegg Insider notes; verify that this interface fits your system rather than assuming every older platform will behave identically. Newegg Insider’s graphics-card guide gives product-specific selection details.

GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB: consider only at a defensible price

The 16GB RTX 5060 Ti is an NVIDIA option for buyers who want more VRAM than the RTX 5060 offers. It only makes sense if its price premium is justified against the RTX 5060 and RX 9060 XT 16GB where you shop. Tom’s Hardware described the 5060 Ti family as overpriced in its mid-2026 market discussion. No directly comparable 1080p benchmark for this card is established in the cited three-card ComputerBase comparison, so it should not be presented as a measured winner over the other picks.

GeForce RTX 5070: an upgrade path, not a strict 1080p value pick

If you expect to move to a 1440p monitor, a more powerful card may suit that future system better. Newegg Insider includes the RTX 5070 as more GPU than 1080p needs and an option for a likely 1440p upgrade. For a build that will stay at 1080p, the extra spend is difficult to justify as a value choice based on the cited guidance. No 1080p benchmark comparison for the RTX 5070 is established here.

Is 8GB of VRAM enough for 1080p gaming in 2026?

It can be enough, but the answer depends on the game and settings. Competitive titles, older games and moderate texture settings are more plausible fits for an 8GB card. Demanding modern games with high-resolution textures can benefit from more memory, and Tom’s Hardware flags potential limits for the RTX 5060 8GB in some demanding scenarios and with frame generation. The right comparison is not simply 8GB versus 16GB: also consider performance in your games, price, image-quality settings and the features you plan to use. Newegg Insider’s guide also raises 8GB capacity as a 2026 buyer consideration.

What to check before buying a specific card

Graphics-card names cover multiple board-partner designs. A model’s cooler, dimensions, power connection and power requirements can vary, so check the exact product listing before ordering.

  • Current local price: Compare the cards available in your region on the same day. Prices and stock change; ComputerBase’s displayed prices are dated April 30, 2026, and should not be treated as current prices everywhere.
  • Your games and settings: Look for average and low-percentile performance in the titles you play. Decide whether raster performance, ray tracing, upscaling or frame generation matters most.
  • Exact memory version: Confirm whether an RX 9060 XT listing is the 8GB or 16GB model, and verify the RTX 5060 Ti’s capacity rather than relying on a shortened product name.
  • Power and fit: Check the selected card’s dimensions, slot thickness, power connector and recommended PSU against your case and power supply. Newegg Insider’s examples range from 199mm to 304mm in card length and recommend 450W to 650W supplies for those specific products; those figures are not universal requirements for the GPU families.
  • Platform and software: Confirm that the card works with your system and that its driver support suits the games and applications you use.

Newegg Insider advises buyers to check case clearance and the power supply first. Its specifications are examples tied to individual board-partner products, not fixed requirements for every card carrying the same GPU name. See the Newegg Insider guide for those product-specific examples.
