4 Windows Features Windows 11 Still Doesn’t Match

Windows 11 includes backup tools, but four older Windows features offered distinct migration, media, taskbar, and troubleshooting workflows.

Windows 11 has backup and support tools, but some older Windows utilities offered different workflows that the built-in options described here do not match. Four examples are Windows Easy Transfer, Windows Media Center, taskbar toolbars, and Steps Recorder. The key distinction is not that Windows 11 can do none of these jobs; it is that the newer system’s documented backup flow differs from Easy Transfer, while the other three features are remembered for specific interfaces or tasks that the article says Windows 11 no longer provides.

Windows Easy Transfer moved files and settings between PCs

Windows Easy Transfer was designed to help transfer files and settings from an old PC to a new one. The article describes it as a single migration utility that could move items such as accounts and personal media, with transfer options including a USB flash drive, an external hard drive, CDs or DVDs, a local network, or a specialized cable. That description captures the tool’s broad approach, not a guarantee that every transfer between every Windows version would be complete or trouble-free. Source

How Windows 11’s documented backup flow differs

Windows 11 does have a backup and restore experience. Microsoft says Windows Backup is aimed at consumer devices using personal Microsoft accounts. Selected Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos, and Music folders can sync to OneDrive; settings and preferences can also be backed up, and setup on a new PC can offer restoration of supported items. Work or school accounts are not supported by this consumer app. Microsoft’s Windows Backup guide

The practical difference is the workflow: Easy Transfer is described as a direct migration tool with removable-media, network, and cable routes, while Windows Backup ties the documented folder-sync and settings flow to a personal Microsoft account and OneDrive. The available documentation does not establish that the two move exactly the same data or offer equivalent transfer methods.

Windows Media Center made a PC feel like a living-room hub

Windows Media Center presented movies, television, and music in an interface intended for use as a living-room media hub. With a TV tuner card, it could also record television programs. The article says Media Center did not carry forward to Windows 10 or Windows 11; the Microsoft material cited for this article does not independently verify the product’s current availability, so that status claim should be understood as the article’s account. Source

Taskbar toolbars let you browse folders from the taskbar

Taskbar toolbars offered a compact way to access a folder’s contents without first opening File Explorer. The article highlights a Desktop toolbar and quick access to user folders or Control Panel modules. Its claim that Windows 11 omits this feature is a description of the historical capability and the article’s assessment; the Microsoft documentation cited here does not independently establish the feature’s exact current status. Steps Recorder captured a sequence for troubleshooting

Steps Recorder, also called Problem Steps Recorder, could capture screenshots as someone worked through a problem and let that person add explanatory comments. The result could then be saved and shared with a support agent or another person, making it easier to show what happened than to describe each action from memory. Source

The article says the tool was available during Windows 10’s transition to Windows 11, but was later deprecated and absent from the author’s Windows 11 PC. Microsoft’s deprecated-features resource cited here does not name Steps Recorder, so it does not establish a precise deprecation date, Windows 11 version, or universal removal status. The article mentions Snipping Tool and Clipchamp as alternatives, but regards neither as offering the same usability for capturing a sequence of actions and comments. That is the author’s evaluation, not a Microsoft claim that these apps are equivalent replacements. Source

What these examples say about Windows 11

These four utilities are remembered for particular ways of working: moving a PC’s contents through several transfer routes, using a media-focused interface, browsing folders from the taskbar, and packaging troubleshooting steps for someone else. Windows 11’s documented backup capability addresses part of the migration need, but through a different account- and OneDrive-based flow. For the other features, the historical descriptions are clear, while the sources cited here do not independently settle their precise present-day availability across Windows 11 editions and versions.
