A compact 3D-printed Raspberry Pi rack can be an open modular frame, a small enclosure with board-specific inserts, a cluster chassis, or a case paired with a rackmount. Choose by the exact Pi and accessories you need to fit, usable interior space, cable and SD-card access, cooling, printer capacity, and file license—not by the word “Raspberry Pi” in a listing alone.
Which type of compact Raspberry Pi rack fits your setup?
These four projects take different approaches. Their dimensions, board support, mounting methods, and access provisions are not interchangeable.

| Design | Best suited to | Key details |
|---|---|---|
| Rackstack | A configurable, open mini rack for organizing equipment in a desktop or home lab. | OpenSCAD project with pre-generated STL frame profiles called mini, micro, and nano. Frames can be customized, stacked, and fastened to other racks. Required printer build size depends on the configured profile. |
| TheDIYLifeCo rack case and inserts | A compact enclosure for a supported Pi board and, in some cases, a HAT. | Files include inserts for Pi 4B, Pi 5, Pi 5 plus HAT, and Pi Zero/Zero 2. The listing gives external dimensions of 120 × 120 × 100 mm and internal dimensions of 112 × 112 × 92 mm; corners and rack stands reduce usable interior space. This is a paid digital file pack, not a shipped rack, and the listing limits use to personal, non-commercial purposes. |
| Antmicro Scalenode | A specialized modular cluster enclosure for Raspberry Pi 4B. | Uses passive cooling and DIN-rail mounting; its translucent light guide is designed for SLA printing. Antmicro documents a 2U installation in a 19-inch cabinet and says up to 56 units fit on a single cabinet floor. Those figures describe Scalenode, not compact racks generally. |
| HiFiBerry case plus rackmount | A stackable case-and-mount approach for Raspberry Pi 3/4 and HiFiBerry boards. | The project documents tool-free case files and an optional rackmount. Its page, last updated October 29, 2019, reports printing with PLA on a 210 × 210 mm print area. Check compatibility with your current board and add-ons before using this older design. |
Open frame or enclosed case?
An open frame prioritizes modular organization and access; an enclosure gives the board a more contained fit but can constrain ports, cables, and card access. A cluster chassis solves a different problem from a one-board desktop rack. Decide first whether you want to mount a single board, several independent devices, or a purpose-built cluster.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Confirm the Pi generation and the dimensions of any HAT, case, SSD, power connector, or other add-on. A board-specific insert does not establish compatibility with every accessory combination. The cited designs cover different generations and board configurations, so compare their stated support with your actual hardware.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Will it fit your printer and your desk?
For an enclosure, distinguish outside dimensions from clear interior space. TheDIYLifeCo listing’s 112 × 112 × 92 mm internal dimensions are reduced in practice by corners and rack stands, so check the clearance at the board and accessory—not just the nominal interior box.
For Rackstack, the mini, micro, and nano names identify design profiles, not a universal guarantee that every version fits a particular printer. Its documentation says build-volume requirements depend on the configured profile. Check the selected STL or OpenSCAD configuration against your printer’s usable build area before slicing.

Also account for the rack’s footprint and how it will be mounted. Scalenode is documented for DIN rail and a 2U position in a 19-inch cabinet; those installation details do not describe a general desktop rack.
Plan access, cables, and cooling before printing
Ports that appear accessible in a render may be difficult to use once the rack is assembled and wired. For the TheDIYLifeCo enclosure, the listing says Ethernet and USB are reachable through the front door, but 90-degree connectors are needed to close it. Audio, power, and HDMI route through a side panel and rear cable entry. Access to the SD card requires removing the Pi rack from the enclosure.

Review where cables bend and whether you can reach the card, reset or service the board, and any cooling openings after assembly. Scalenode specifies passive cooling for its own cluster design; do not assume that approach or its thermal behavior transfers to another enclosure. Rackstack lists PLA, PETG, and ABS as possible conventional FDM plastics and cautions about PLA’s thermal limits. Consider the board’s operating environment and the selected design’s airflow before choosing material.
What to check in the files, license, and build instructions
- File type and editability: Rackstack is an OpenSCAD project with pre-generated STLs. Confirm whether you need editable source or only ready-to-slice meshes.
- License: TheDIYLifeCo listing specifies personal, non-commercial use. Read the applicable terms before printing for resale or distributing modified files.
- Fit tolerance: Rackstack recommends printing an evaluation piece and notes that default fits may need adjustment. Test the fit before committing to a full build.
- Material and slicer settings: Follow the chosen design’s instructions rather than treating another project’s settings as universal.
- Hardware: Check the selected design’s bill of materials and confirm you have its fasteners, pins, magnets, adhesive, and tools before assembly.
Rackstack hardware and print notes
Rackstack’s bill of materials for one rack lists 12 M3 × 12 mm flat-head screws, 16 M3 × 16 mm flat-head screws, 28 M3 hex nuts, four 3 × 10 mm steel dowel pins, eight 6 × 2 mm neodymium disc magnets, at least 2 ml of super glue, an M3 Allen key, and an M4 Allen key for mounting rack-mount items. These parts apply to that project; use the bill of materials for your chosen design.

Project-specific print settings
TheDIYLifeCo listing recommends PLA, a 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layer height, and 20% infill for its design. HiFiBerry’s project notes report a 0.2 mm layer height, 1 mm wall thickness, five top and bottom layers, 30% infill, 3 mm retraction, 60 mm/s speed, supports enabled, and a 65-degree overhang angle. These are source-specific settings, not universal recommendations; check the geometry, material, and current slicer setup.
