3 Ways to Offer Paid Plans on a Website

Subscription options work differently by site type. Compare native AI Builder plans, Stripe payment links, and WordPress options before setting up recurring billing.

You can sell paid subscriptions from a website in three different ways: use an ecommerce platform with an AI Builder site in agentic mode for native subscription plans, link a manual-mode site to recurring Stripe payments, or run a WordPress site with subscription software. The right setup depends on your site type; the native ecommerce route requires Stripe and is not available in every AI Builder mode.

Choose the setup that matches your site

Setup What it supports Key consideration
AI Builder agentic mode with ecommerce Native subscription products and subscription management Stripe is required; buyers need an account, and there is no free-trial option. Check Stripe’s country availability
AI Builder manual mode Recurring Stripe payments through a Payment Link or Stripe Checkout Stripe handles billing separately; the site’s built-in store does not manage native subscription plans.
WordPress with subscription software Subscription or membership products through plugins or extensions Automatic renewals and plan controls depend on the plugin edition and payment integration.

Before choosing, check whether you need a free trial, whether customers must manage or cancel their own plans, and whether your payment provider and country are supported. For native subscriptions, check Stripe’s country availability before building the store.

Set up native subscriptions in AI Builder agentic mode

The documented native workflow requires an AI Builder project in agentic mode connected to an ecommerce store. A standalone store or an AI Builder site in manual mode does not use this same native subscription workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Create an ecommerce store and connect a Stripe account.
  2. Open the store manager and add your AI Builder agentic-mode site under Sales Channels.
  3. In the AI Builder chat, ask it to create a subscription-based product.
  4. Review the generated plan details, then manage the product through Store Manager.

Plans appear in the Product list, while subscriber status and history are available in the Subscriptions area. A customer portal lets subscribers view invoices, manage plans, and cancel. Stripe is required; PayPal and other providers are not supported for these native subscription payments. Buyers must create an account, and free trials are unavailable. Confirm the available settings in your account, since product capabilities can change.

Use recurring Stripe payments with manual mode

If your AI Builder site uses manual mode, you can still direct customers to recurring billing, but the subscription is managed outside the site’s built-in store.

  1. Create a recurring product in Stripe and generate a Stripe Payment Link, or configure Stripe Checkout.
  2. In your site editor, add a button or text link to the page where customers choose a plan.
  3. Set the button or link destination to the Stripe payment URL, then publish and verify the link.

Stripe processes the recurring payment; do not expect the manual-mode store interface to manage subscription plans or subscriber history.

Offer subscriptions on WordPress with WooCommerce

On a WordPress site, subscription plugins and extensions provide a separate route. A WooCommerce tutorial demonstrates YITH WooCommerce Subscription: create a product, enable its Subscription product setting, select the billing frequency and term, and publish it.

Renewal behavior depends on the plugin version and payment setup. The tutorial says the free version supports automatic renewals through PayPal Payments for WooCommerce. Without that integration—or when the initial order used another payment method—renewals can be manual. A premium version supports other automatic-renewal gateways, and the free version has limits on pausing, upgrading, or downgrading plans. The official WooCommerce Subscriptions extension and membership models are other options. Check the plugin vendor’s current documentation for gateway compatibility, feature limits, and pricing before choosing.

Keep email signups separate from paid plans

A website subscribe form collects email-list signups; it is not a paid subscription or recurring-payment tool. Documentation describes viewing or exporting form submissions and embedding third-party subscription forms with custom code. Use a newsletter signup form to collect email addresses and a paid subscription setup to charge recurring fees.

Understand the platform-fee statement

In a June 15, 2026 announcement, the platform said its AI Builder charges “0% platform fees,” with subscription revenue going to users minus Stripe’s standard processing fees. This is the platform’s own product-announcement claim, not an independently verified fee comparison. Check the current terms and Stripe processing charges for your account before setting prices.
