Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a short wait in a parked car, I reach for a game, Spotify, or Waze, depending on what I need: a quick distraction, something to listen to, or a final route check. They serve different purposes, and the game examples below are not guaranteed to work with every phone and car.
Which app fits your parked-car downtime?
| Need | Pick | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| A quick distraction | A compatible game | A short session while the car is parked |
| Music or a podcast | Spotify | Choosing what to listen to before setting off |
| A departure check | Waze | Reviewing a route and reported traffic conditions |
This is a personal routine, not a ranking or a comparative test. The right choice depends on the kind of wait and whether your phone, app, and car support the Android Auto experience you want.

For a short break: a compatible game
When I have a few minutes before leaving, a casual game is an easy way to fill the pause. The games named in the original routine are Angry Birds 2, Candy Crush Soda Saga, and Farm Heroes Saga. They are examples, not a promise that each title is currently available or compatible with every Android Auto setup.
Google’s Android Auto documentation says games are the only parked-app category supported by Android Auto at this time. Parked apps run on devices with Android 15 or higher, and the particular app and vehicle must also support the experience. In September 2026, Google said games had moved from beta to general availability and developers could publish them to all Google Play track types; that developer access does not guarantee support for a specific game or car. Google’s parked-app guidance and its September 2026 Android Developers Blog update describe the platform status.

Why a game stops when you drive
Google’s developer requirements say Android Auto blocks parked-game activities when the car is moving or UX restrictions are active. A game must stop its audio when driving begins, and it cannot let that audio be unpaused while the vehicle is moving. These are platform requirements; they are not a claim that every vehicle behaves identically. Google’s developer instructions for parked apps cover these restrictions.
For music or podcasts: Spotify
I use Spotify while parked to browse and choose a podcast or music before I pull out. That is a convenience, not a requirement: listening does not have to be limited to parked time. Android Auto supports audio media apps while driving as well as while parked, so use the controls and interaction methods appropriate to the road.

- Compatible with wired-only Android Auto systems

- Multifunctional button for easy phone pairing and switching
- Connects unlimited phones, perfect for road trips
- Plug & play setup, no tech skills needed
For a final route check: Waze
Before leaving, I open Waze to check the destination, route, and reported conditions such as traffic, crashes, or hazards. Those reports come from drivers, and checking them is part of my own pre-drive routine—not a guarantee that every incident will appear or that conditions will stay unchanged.

Android Auto and Android Automotive OS are not the same
Android Auto runs through a connected phone, while Android Automotive OS is built into the vehicle. Their parked-app categories differ. Google’s category overview lists games for both platforms, but lists parked video and browser apps for Android Automotive OS; Android Auto’s listed parked category is games. Audio media apps are available in either parked or driving contexts. Google’s car-app category overview explains the distinction.

Google announced on May 19, 2026 that video on Android Auto was expected to begin rolling out to compatible vehicles later that year for phones running Android 17 or higher. The official overview reviewed here does not confirm that rollout had begun by October 7, 2026, so video should not be treated as a confirmed Android Auto parked feature on that basis. Google’s May 19, 2026 announcement describes the planned rollout.
