A membership website works when people have a reason to come back: new lessons, useful tools, a community, or benefits they cannot get as non-members. These 18 models show different ways to deliver that ongoing value. The named examples are drawn from the available guide; the others are practical formats to adapt, not claims about specific existing sites.

18 membership website examples to inspire your site

Use these models as starting points, not templates to copy. The right fit depends on who your members are, what outcome they want repeatedly, how you will deliver it, and whether community is part of the value.

  1. All-access course library

Offer a growing or curated collection of video lessons and supporting materials to learners who want to explore several subjects. The guide describes MasterClass as an annual learning membership, with courses across more than 200 subjects and accompanying workbooks; check its current catalog and terms before relying on those details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  2. Guided skill-practice program

Break a skill into short lessons and a structured practice path. Sewing and music-learning memberships are cited in the guide as examples of this format. The recurring value is a clear next step, not simply a large archive.

    • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
    • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  3. Identity-led fitness community

Make shared identity and member interaction central, with language and community spaces suited to the audience. The guide presents Nerd Fitness as an example. Its cited pricing—$39 per quarter or an annual option under $9 per month—is a third-party snapshot from 2026, not a confirmed current offer.

  4. Creator membership with exclusive work

Give paying supporters content they cannot access in the free offering, such as members-only posts or media. Patreon lists exclusive content among popular membership benefits.

  5. Early-access club

Let members see or use selected work before the general audience. Patreon identifies early access as a popular benefit; it can suit creators whose output already has a predictable release rhythm.

  13. App-based participation service

Let members participate through an app even when they do not own a particular piece of hardware. HubSpot’s roundup describes Peloton as allowing community participation through its app without owning a bike. That illustrates a service extending beyond equipment ownership, rather than a claim about current app features or access terms.

  14. Monthly themed learning release

Publish one focused lesson or collection on a recurring schedule. This is a practical variation on the course and learning-library model: members receive a reason to return without requiring you to launch a large catalog at the outset.

How to choose a membership model

Compare the models against the work your audience already needs to do. A polished site cannot compensate for a benefit that members use once and then forget.

Decision Question to answer Why it matters
Audience Who has this recurring need, and what do they have in common? A defined audience makes the offer and its language more relevant.
Member outcome What will members learn, accomplish, access, or participate in? A concrete outcome is easier to evaluate than a vague promise of exclusive access.
Recurring benefit What will make the membership useful next week or next month? Retention depends on continuing value, whether that is a resource, lesson, event, or interaction.
Delivery Will the benefit arrive as lessons, downloads, tools, an app experience, events, or community? The format needs to suit both the member’s use and your ability to deliver it.
Role of community Does member interaction improve the outcome, or is it secondary? Community can be the core offer or an add-on; it should not be included by default.
Billing cadence Does the value arrive continuously, by season, or around a defined program? Choose a cadence that matches how members receive value, rather than choosing one only for convenience.

What should you include in a membership site?

Start with benefits that are both clear to members and sustainable for you to provide. Patreon’s Help Center guidance, updated May 4, 2026, names exclusive content, early access, community, and patron recognition as popular benefits. It recommends beginning with one tier, then adding more as you learn what members value. Its guidance also favors recurring benefits you can reliably deliver.

  • Describe the benefit concretely: say what members receive and how it helps them.
  • Set a delivery rhythm you can maintain: a smaller dependable promise is more credible than an ambitious schedule you cannot sustain.
  • Make access understandable: explain what is for members and what remains available to non-members.
  • Begin with one manageable offer: add tiers only when member needs or demand justify the extra complexity.

What kind of content do people actually pay for?

There is no single content type that works for every audience. The examples point to a more useful test: does the member receive something repeatedly valuable that non-members cannot access? That might be instruction, practice structure, professional resources, an event, community participation, creator content, or a relevant perk. The content itself is only part of the offer; the outcome and the reason to return matter too.

Patreon says its platform-specific research finds that $5 is a “sweet spot” for most new membership businesses on Patreon. That claim should not be generalized into a pricing rule for membership businesses on other platforms or for every audience.

A practical way to shape your first offer

  1. Name one audience. Describe the people whose recurring need you intend to serve.
  2. Choose one repeatable outcome. Focus on a result members can receive or pursue more than once.
  3. Pick one delivery method. Select the format that makes the outcome accessible and that you can maintain.
  4. Write the benefit as a promise you can keep. Explain what members get and how often, without implying more than you can deliver.
  5. Launch simply and learn. Start with one tier; expand when member feedback or demand supports a more complex offer.

These principles are consistent with the examples guide’s advice to begin with a clear audience, a type of value, and one way to deliver it. If you decide to build a site, a membership website builder, managed hosting, or a WordPress membership plugin are categories to evaluate; the right implementation depends on your requirements and is separate from choosing the membership model.
