Is the HP90IDCHX2 any good?

It is best assessed as a candidate for a compatible cabinet and duct installation, rather than on airflow figures alone.

Fisher & Paykel’s 2019 specification sheet states a maximum pressured air movement of 780 m³/hr under EN61591 and a maximum sound rating of 65 dBA. These are manufacturer specifications, not measured results for your kitchen. Duct size and route, installation quality and operating mode affect the real-world outcome. CHOICE identifies its test setup as ducted, but the accessible listing does not disclose its expert rating or detailed performance, ease-of-use and noise scores. The public evidence therefore does not establish an independent performance grade for this model. Fisher & Paykel’s model materials and CHOICE’s listing are useful for checking the model-specific details.
Will it fit your cabinetry?
The 2015 Fisher & Paykel datasheet gives overall dimensions of 830 mm wide, 280 mm deep and 361 mm high, and specifies a centered cabinet cutout of 800 × 260 mm with a 150 mm duct outlet. Its installation clearances are 600–750 mm above electric or induction cooktops and 650–750 mm above gas cooktops. The manufacturer directs installers to the detailed installation guide; consult the guide for the appliance’s region and installation before cutting or fitting cabinetry. There is a dimension discrepancy worth resolving rather than guessing around: the 2019 specification sheet lists 830 × 315 × 280 mm (width × height × depth), whereas the 2015 datasheet gives 361 mm overall height. CHOICE rounds the dimensions to 32 × 83 × 28 cm. The available materials do not explain whether the height difference reflects a different measurement basis or configuration. For cabinet planning, use the exact model’s installation documentation and measure the actual appliance and available space.
How loud is it, and what does the airflow figure mean?
The published maximum sound rating is 65 dBA, and the published maximum pressured air movement is 780 m³/hr under EN61591, according to Fisher & Paykel’s 2019 specification sheet. Neither figure tells you the noise or capture performance you will experience with a specific cooktop and duct layout. A long or restrictive duct route, fittings and installation can change practical results. CHOICE’s publicly accessible page does not provide the detailed model-specific test measurements, so it cannot be used here to assign an independent noise or extraction score.

What filters and upkeep does it need?
The model-family materials specify three dishwasher-safe metal filters. For recirculating operation, CHOICE lists carbon filter model 792481, says two are required, and recommends replacement every three months. Confirm the variant and compatibility against the appliance nameplate or official documentation before ordering; verify that recirculation is supported by your installation configuration. CHOICE’s HP90IDCHX2 listing is the source for the carbon-filter number and replacement interval.

Fisher & Paykel materials name eave, roof and side-wall ducting kits, while the exact-model datasheet specifies a 150 mm outlet. Ducting is route-specific: confirm the outlet, fittings, kit and installation instructions rather than assuming any nominally 150 mm kit will fit. The model-family reference also lists replacement bulb part 792393; check the appliance nameplate and official guide before purchasing a bulb.

Is the HP90IDCHX2 discontinued?
CHOICE marks the HP90IDCHX2 as discontinued. That status makes it especially important to check whether a specific unit is new old stock or used, and to confirm local parts and service support before committing to a purchase or cabinetry plan. CHOICE’s visible $909 figure is not a reliable current price: the same listing marks the model discontinued, and the timing and present applicability of that figure are not established.
Fisher & Paykel’s current Australian product page covers the related HP90IDCHX3, not the X2. The X3 is a different model: its stated configuration includes two filters and four fan speeds, whereas the X2 family materials describe three filters and three fan speeds. Do not assume X3 specifications or parts apply to an X2. Check regional availability and the exact model number when consulting current manufacturer information. - Confirm the nameplate reads HP90IDCHX2 and establish whether the unit is used or remaining stock.
- Check cabinet dimensions and centered cutout against the exact installation guide; resolve the 315 mm versus 361 mm height difference before planning around height.
- Confirm the required cooktop clearance: the 2015 datasheet lists 600–750 mm for electric/induction and 650–750 mm for gas.
- Plan a duct route compatible with the specified 150 mm outlet, or verify the correct recirculation configuration and carbon filters.
- Ask about local service and replacement-part availability, given the discontinued status.
