What these examples reveal about membership offers
A membership is easier to understand when its benefit is specific. The examples fall into several practical patterns:
- Content and instruction: dance, yoga, math resources, and guided wellness practices offer material members can use on demand or at scheduled times.
- Coaching and professional development: creator support, marketing systems, mentorship, and educator training connect membership to a skill or career goal.
- Community and access: travel networks, professional groups, associations, and interest communities emphasize relationships, events, or shared identity.
- Accountability: coworking sessions and guided practice give members structure and a reason to show up regularly.
When evaluating an example for your own project, check whether its public pages explain who the offer is for, what members receive, how often new value arrives, and what happens after sign-up. The examples roundup does not establish current prices or tier details for each site, so do not infer those from the descriptions.
Can you create a membership site on Squarespace?
Yes. Squarespace documents Member Sites that put pages behind a paywall and support free or paid access. Its documented pricing choices include recurring subscriptions, fixed-amount pricing, and free access. Broader Squarespace membership and content tools can also gate courses, videos, blog posts, and member sites, with options that include email sign-up, flat-rate payment, installments, or recurring subscriptions. Squarespace’s Member Site setup guide and membership-site overview describe the available approaches.
Members create customer accounts to access gated content and manage subscriptions. A change to a recurring plan’s price applies to new members; existing subscribers remain at their original price, according to Squarespace’s documentation.

Squarespace’s documentation describes gating courses, videos, blog posts, and member-site pages. The best choice depends on what members are paying for: a resource library, structured lessons, ongoing publishing, or a combination. A page should support the membership’s promised benefit rather than simply be hidden because it is available to hide.

Native Member Sites and third-party membership tools
Not every site in the examples list is confirmed to use Squarespace’s native Member Sites. The roundup explicitly includes websites that use Squarespace for the main public site while relying on a third-party membership tool for access. Before copying a setup, check the site’s current sign-up and member experience and verify which system handles accounts, payment, and gated pages.
One third-party route is MemberSpace, which describes tools for protecting pages and files and providing member dashboards alongside Squarespace sites. MemberSpace’s Squarespace examples page explains its approach. Whether it fits depends on the features and account flow your project needs.
Trade-offs to consider before putting pages behind a paywall
Squarespace documents several structural and discoverability limits for member-site pages:
Recommended Free Tools
- Member-site pages are excluded from the site map and do not have page-level SEO options.
- A page can belong to only one member site.
- Course or video pages already attached to a pricing plan cannot be dragged into a member site.
These limits matter when planning how visitors will discover content and how the site will be organized. Keep public pages that explain the offer and attract visitors distinct from gated pages intended for members, and decide on the page structure before assigning content to pricing plans or member sites. Squarespace’s Member Sites documentation covers these constraints.
How to choose a model to learn from
Start with the member outcome, then choose a format that can deliver it consistently. For example, a teacher-resource offer needs useful, organized materials; a coaching membership needs access to guidance and a clear rhythm; a community needs a reason for members to interact. Review the public explanation and sign-up path as carefully as the visual design. Because the examples roundup is not a site-by-site technology audit, confirm current availability, pricing, and membership tooling directly with each site before treating it as an implementation blueprint.
