ZéroJour: A Newspaper Composed from Cybersecurity Advisories, Published by a Human

ZéroJour formats structured cybersecurity advisories as newspaper-style drafts, with a human editor responsible for moving each article to published.

ZéroJour turns structured cybersecurity advisories into a newspaper-style front page: software assembles article drafts from typed fields, but a human editor must approve each item before it can be published. That distinction—automated composition, human-controlled publication—is the project’s central idea.

What is ZéroJour?

ZéroJour’s press edition is a newspaper-like interface built over structured cybersecurity advisory data. In a September 29, 2026 DEV Community description, project author Sam Labbe says it uses Sanity for content, GROQ queries to drive the front page, and references joined when readers open an article. The application stack named in the post is Next.js App Router and @sanity/client.

The concept is not that a model independently reports on vulnerabilities. Instead, the interface organizes existing advisory records into a publication format, and templates turn selected fields into draft articles.

How does the front page choose what to show?

Labbe describes four front-page views, each based on fields in the advisory data or publication records:

  • Perfect for morning coffee, tea, or hot cocoa at home or the office
  • Known-exploited advisories: records marked as known exploited.
  • No-fix advisories: records whose fix status is no-fix.
  • High-severity advisories: records with a base severity score of at least 8.0, ranked by score.
  • Latest dispatches: published articles ordered by publication date.

The 8.0 cutoff is a query filter described by the author. It is not a finding that the system improves security outcomes or that every advisory above that score is equally urgent.

How can software compose an article without publishing it?

The press desk assembles a draft from typed fields rather than asking a language model to rewrite the advisory. Labbe says those fields can include a profile line, remediation line, known-exploited flag, and an extract quoted from the advisory record. On an article page, the project displays CVSS components, the advisory’s own prose, remediation information, and the KEV flag.

This deterministic approach makes the draft a formatted presentation of data and source text, not newly generated reporting. Labbe says an earlier idea to have a model rewrite each advisory was dropped because it would layer generated prose over information that was already structured.

Where does human approval enter the workflow?

The project’s described editorial workflow is draft → review → published. According to Labbe, only a human can move an item through those states. Its byline is intended to disclose both that a machine composed the draft and that a human approved publication.

That boundary is captured in Labbe’s words: “An AI can draft your front page; it cannot sign it.” The software can prepare a publication-ready structure, but the act of publishing remains an editorial decision.

What does the live ticker mean?

Labbe describes a live ticker that listens for changes to the dataset. It reports mutations—including writes made by the composer—so it should be understood as a notification feature, not as an authoritative record of what has been reviewed or published. Readers should rely on the article’s publication state rather than interpreting every ticker event as a new, human-approved dispatch.

What is established about the project’s availability?

The author’s post links a live demo and the project repository, with the press application in the press/ folder. The described local setup commands are npm install followed by npm run dev. Those are references and instructions from the author’s post; the demo’s current availability and the implementation have not been independently verified.
