A warning about Zelotes mouse software could be a false positive, but the alert alone cannot establish that an installer is safe or malicious. Zelotes lists mouse software by model on its official site; a separate 2019 sandbox report concerns a similarly named executable, not a verified current driver. To assess your file, match the mouse model and download source, check the exact detection and file identity, then ask the antivirus vendor to review it.
What “Zelotes software” refers to
The likely subject is software for configuring or supporting a Zelotes computer mouse. Zelotes’ official download page lists driver packages by mouse model, including F-33pro, F-37, F-18, F-13, F-35C, F-33, F-36, C-12, T-50, T-90, T-80 and C-10. The listed packages have different displayed dates, so the model and specific file matter; a package with a similar name from another source is not equivalent evidence of origin.

What an antivirus warning does—and does not—mean
Antivirus products can misclassify normal files. Microsoft has described false positives as a possible trade-off of aggressive classifiers, while explaining that a detection still deserves investigation. The detection label, exact file, download source, publisher and current assessment all matter. A warning by itself does not prove that the file is malware or harmless. A digital signature can help check a file’s publisher identity and whether it has changed since signing. It does not guarantee that software is safe, high-quality or functional. Treat a valid signature as one useful signal, not a verdict.

Why an old sandbox report is not a current verdict
An ANY.RUN report dated November 19, 2019 describes a sample named “ZELOTES MOUSE.exe” as showing suspicious behavior, including changing an autorun registry value and dropping or rewriting executables. The report cautions that user actions may affect results. It does not establish that the sample came from Zelotes, that it was the file you have, or that a current official driver behaves the same way.
How to investigate your specific file
- Match the model and source. Identify the exact mouse model and locate its corresponding package on Zelotes’ official downloads page. Do not treat a third-party driver listing or a matching filename as proof of provenance.
- Record file details. Note the full filename, the URL you downloaded it from, its hash if available, and the antivirus product and exact detection label. Those details distinguish your file from other packages with similar names.
- Inspect any signature. If the file is signed, check the stated publisher and whether the signature is valid. This supports an identity and integrity check, but does not certify safety.
- Ask the detecting vendor to review it. Use that product’s false-positive reporting process. For Microsoft Defender detections, Microsoft directs users to its Security Intelligence file submission portal.
- Use scan aggregators cautiously. A VirusTotal result can show how multiple tools classify a sample, but it is not a safety guarantee. VirusTotal says submitted files may be shared with its community and, in some cases, premium customers; consider that before uploading private or sensitive files. False-alarm rates vary by antivirus product and tested files; they are one dimension in independent evaluations such as AV-Comparatives’ antivirus testing. Such general evaluations do not determine whether a particular Zelotes installer is safe.
