Both Zapier and Make can automate website screenshots. Zapier lists full-page and element-capture actions through GetScreenshot, plus a separate Screenshot API integration. Make lists GetScreenshot and HTML/CSS to Image integrations, and its HTTP module can call an external screenshot API. The better fit depends on the capture controls, trigger, file handoff and plan requirements your workflow needs—not on a general price or performance winner.

What each platform offers for screenshots

Zapier: direct screenshot integrations

Zapier’s GetScreenshot integration lists “Take Website Screenshot” and “Take Website Element Screenshot (Advanced).” A full-site capture requires a URL and a full-page capture setting. Other listed controls include width, highlighted text, PDF output, an extra wait for longer loads, custom CSS and advanced parameters. Element capture requires a CSS selector.

Zapier also lists a separate Screenshot API integration. Its listed settings include output format, file type, full-page capture, freshness, delay, load event, dimensions, text and HTML extraction, lazy loading, retina and dark mode. These controls belong to that provider’s integration; they should not be assumed to be part of GetScreenshot or Zapier itself.

Make: direct integrations and an API route

Make lists a GetScreenshot integration for capture workflows, including scheduled or event-triggered screenshots and sending results to storage or team apps. Its listing mentions custom CSS and PDF output.

Make also lists HTML/CSS to Image, including an action to create a screenshot of a URL, as well as actions for creating images from HTML/CSS and retrieving created images. The same page shows HTTP actions alongside those modules.

For a provider with an API, Make’s HTTP app documents “Make a request” and “Download a file.” Make describes a scenario as a workflow made of modules. The HTTP path is generic: you configure the external service’s authentication, request fields, response parsing and file handling, and that provider’s own billing applies.

How to choose between Zapier and Make

Match the integration to the capture

Start with the actual screenshot requirement, then confirm the selected integration exposes it. Check full-page versus element capture, selector support, viewport dimensions, load waits, image or PDF output, custom CSS, and any text or HTML extraction. The documented controls differ by provider and integration.

  • CONTROL FROM ANYWHERE – Manage watering, run zones, view schedules & track estimated usage in the Rachio App.

Map the trigger and handoff

Sketch the complete flow: trigger, capture, then destination. A recurring schedule or a new row in a database may lead to a different setup than a one-off event. Confirm how the provider returns the screenshot and whether the next step can save, email or pass along that file in the required format.

Account for configuration and plan gates

A direct integration can be a practical choice when it lists the needed action and controls. Make’s HTTP module is another route when the chosen screenshot provider offers an API and you are willing to configure its request and response. Zapier’s GetScreenshot listing says a Starter plan is needed to create Zaps with three or more steps; check that requirement against a chain such as trigger → screenshot → storage before building it.

Compare costs for your actual volume

There is no substantiated general price winner here. Compare the automation plan’s current task or execution allowance and any plan gates with the screenshot provider’s charges at your expected capture frequency. Include every step or module and any separate provider usage in the estimate. The integration listings do not establish a like-for-like current cost comparison.

A practical setup checklist

  1. Choose the provider and action. Verify that the action is listed in your platform and supports the capture you need.
  2. Set the capture requirements. Specify the target URL, full-page or element capture, selector if needed, viewport, wait behavior, output format and any CSS or extraction options that the integration offers.
  3. Choose the trigger. Decide whether captures should run on a schedule or after a particular event, such as a new database entry.
  4. Test the file handoff. Confirm that the resulting image or PDF reaches the intended storage, email or downstream app in a usable form.
  5. Check plan access and total usage cost. Verify platform plan requirements for the complete workflow and account for the screenshot service’s usage charges.

Screenshot API alternative: ScreenshotNeo

If you would rather call a screenshot API than choose between the listed integrations, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Its API can return an image or PDF, and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. You can call it from an automation platform’s HTTP module; as with any external provider, configure the request and handle the returned file in your workflow.

For example, this cURL request captures a URL and saves the response as a WebP file:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup details. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
