Zapata Quantum announced on October 6, 2026, that it had joined the IBM Quantum Network, with plans to use IBM quantum computers alongside its application-development expertise. The announcement describes a strategic relationship, not a list of completed projects: it names no specific application, customer deliverable, timeline, or commercial terms.
What Zapata’s IBM Quantum Network membership means
The announcement says Zapata intends to use IBM quantum computers and draw on network insights to help identify and develop possible applications. Zapata frames the effort as a response to the work still needed to connect progress in quantum hardware with useful applications. That is the companies’ stated rationale, not evidence that a particular business use case is ready or will produce a return.

Zapata also says the network will inform Quantum Pilot, its software platform for helping enterprises identify, prioritize, and develop applications as quantum hardware matures. The release does not provide independent performance or return-on-investment evidence for Quantum Pilot, nor does it say that the new membership has already delivered an application.

What the IBM Quantum Network is
IBM describes the network as a community of academic institutions, industry clients, startups, and other partners working to advance quantum computing. Its listed member benefits include events, communications, industry expertise, and tailored programming. IBM says clients with qualifying Flex, Premium, or On-Prem plan contracts are added to the network, while startups can join through a Startup Program. The public descriptions do not specify which route, contract, or access entitlements apply to Zapata. IBM Quantum Network

- 【Small Size, Powerful Impact】The ThinkCentre M625 Thin client is extremely compact at 96% smaller than a traditional desktop tower. Just 1 liter in volume, this PC fits just about anywhere and can be positioned horizontally or vertically—mount it on a wall, behind a monitor, under a desk, or even on a cart. With a base clock speed of 1.6GHz and max turbo frequency of 2.4GHz the AMD A4-9120C leaves little to be desired over the previous generations.
- 【Tech Specs】[Memory&Storage]: Upto 16GB high DDR4 RAM to smoothly run multiple applications and browser tabs all at once; Upto 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD) for quick boot times and program loading. [Operating System]: Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit operating system. [Ports]: 3 x USB 3.1, Headphone jack, Microphone jack, 3 x USB 2.0, DisplayPort, RJ-45 Ethernet Prot.
- 【Tough as it is tiny】 The ThinkCentre M625 Thin client is built to last in any environment. From enduring temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius / -4 degrees Fahrenheit, up to 60 degrees C / 140 degrees F, this device can handle anything from minor bumps to extreme temperatures and dusty conditions.
- 【Protect data from would-be hackers】 The ThinkCentre M625 thin client is optimized for high security. Armed with Trusted Platform Module (TPM), the ThinkCentre M625 Thin Client encrypts all your data, as well as your passwords. Keep all your confidential and critical data safe without worry.
- 【Quieter than a whisper】The fan-free design on the ThinkCentre M625 Thin client means it produces almost no sound! It’s perfect for quiet offices that need to stay that way.
Network membership should not be confused with a published guarantee of particular machine time, a specific system, or a customer-ready product. The announcement does not disclose Zapata’s access terms.
IBM’s stated network scale
As of October 7, 2026, IBM’s network page listed 300+ total members, including 65+ commercial partners and startups, 50+ industry clients, and 35+ Quantum Innovation Centers. These are IBM’s current public figures, not independently audited counts, and may change. IBM Quantum Network
What applications will they build?
The announcement does not name a new joint application, industry, customer, or delivery date. It says the relationship is intended to help Zapata identify opportunities and develop applications; readers should treat that as a plan rather than a reported outcome.
Jonny Olson, Zapata’s VP of Strategy and co-founder, said the membership would help the company identify opportunities for organizations seeking fast systems and prepare them for a point when quantum computing offers a return on investment. That is Olson’s expectation, not a demonstrated result. Zapata CEO Sumit Kapur similarly argued that hardware progress makes work on identifying, evaluating, and developing applications more important.
Does the announcement show quantum computers are useful for business now?
It does not establish that. It reports a strategic relationship and plans for future application work, but gives no new commercial deployment, measured business benefit, or customer result. The announcement itself characterizes expectations about future applications and value as forward-looking; those outcomes may not materialize.

IBM’s Quantum Platform and Qiskit provide online and software resources for learning about and working with quantum computing. IBM’s public Quantum page, accessed October 7, 2026, advertised 10 free minutes of execution time per month on 100+ qubit systems. That is a changeable platform offer, not a stated entitlement of Zapata’s network membership. IBM Quantum

Zapata says the relationship builds on prior joint research, including a Nature Biotechnology paper titled “Quantum-computing-enhanced algorithm unveils potential KRAS inhibitors,” published January 22, 2025. The paper concerns potential inhibitors; it is not evidence of an approved drug, a clinical result, or a product arising from the newly announced membership. Nature Biotechnology

Zapata’s release says the KRAS study was selected as one of Nature Biotechnology’s Top 10 Articles of 2025; that selection claim is reported by Zapata. Neither prior project specifies what the new membership will produce.
What is still undisclosed
- The application or applications Zapata and IBM intend to pursue together.
- Any customer, deployment schedule, or deliverable tied to the membership.
- The commercial terms and the specific IBM network access or computing entitlements Zapata receives.
- Evidence that the relationship or Quantum Pilot has produced a measurable business return.
Zapata also said it had more than 60 granted and pending patents developed over seven years. That is the company’s figure, announced October 6, 2026, rather than an independent assessment of the patents’ commercial value.
