1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFirst, check which OBS counter is increasing. Network Dropped Frames usually points to an unstable connection to YouTube’s ingest server or a bitrate your upload cannot sustain. Rendering lag or encoding overload points instead to GPU workload or encoding throughput. Neither counter alone proves that AMD AMF is defective.
Use the matching troubleshooting path below, changing one setting at a time and testing with a representative scene. YouTube and OBS publish useful streaming constraints, but there is no single AMF preset that fixes every GPU, driver, OBS build, and workload.

Identify what OBS means by “dropped frames”
During a stream, open OBS’s status area and watch the counters. Save the log for a session in which the problem occurs; it can help distinguish a connection problem from rendering or encoding pressure. OBS’s connection guide describes network drops this way: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide separates this from encoding-performance problems.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Rendering lag or encoding overload rises: investigate GPU load, output resolution, frame rate, and whether the system can render and encode the scene in real time.
If more than one counter rises, address each symptom separately rather than assuming one AMF setting explains all of them.

Set YouTube-compatible streaming basics first
Before tuning AMD-specific options, verify the stream’s basic output settings against YouTube’s current recommendations. In OBS, open Settings > Output and select the streaming output options available in your installed OBS and AMF implementation. Labels and available encoder controls can vary by OBS build, operating system, GPU, and driver.
- Rate control: use CBR for YouTube live ingest.
- Keyframe interval: set 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP.
- Codec and output: choose a codec and resolution supported by the particular GPU and AMF implementation as well as YouTube. OBS documents AMD AMF support on Windows and Linux, with compatibility dependent on the GPU; consult its hardware encoding guide for compatibility and troubleshooting links.
For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube lists 6 Mbps as the minimum bitrate and 17 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. Those are platform figures, not a guarantee that your connection can sustain the higher target. If upload capacity is insufficient or unstable, choose a lower bitrate rather than selecting the recommendation blindly. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its supported guidance.
If the Network Dropped Frames counter rises
Lower the bitrate to match a stable upload
OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as an initial troubleshooting target when lowering bitrate. Treat that as a starting point, not a measurement of guaranteed sustained capacity: a speed test can show a short peak while the connection fluctuates during a broadcast. Set a bitrate your connection can maintain consistently, then test again.

Test the connection and route
- Use a wired Ethernet connection for a test if possible; Wi-Fi can be unstable. A cable is a troubleshooting test, not a guaranteed fix.
- Try a different YouTube ingest server if OBS offers another suitable option.
- Check whether a VPN, security software, network optimizer, router, modem, or network driver is interfering. Temporarily changing one factor at a time can help isolate the cause.
- Testing another streaming service can help determine whether the behavior is specific to the service or route, but it does not by itself identify the fault.
OBS lists these measures in its stream connection troubleshooting guide. If you test a wired connection and do not already have a suitable cable, a basic Ethernet cable may be useful; no particular cable category is required by the guidance.
Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
OBS offers “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta)” as a way to lower bitrate rather than drop frames when the connection cannot keep up. It can preserve continuity at the cost of video quality, but OBS cautions that dynamic bitrate does not fix the underlying connection problem.
If rendering lag or encoding overload rises
These symptoms point toward work the computer cannot complete quickly enough, rather than simply a weak connection to YouTube. The appropriate response is to create GPU and encoding headroom.

- On Windows, run OBS as administrator. OBS recommends this as a troubleshooting step that can help it obtain GPU resources.
- Reduce competing GPU work. Close or pause applications and tasks you know are using substantial GPU resources, then retest the same scene.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not sustainable, test 30 fps. Lowering resolution or frame rate reduces the work required to render and encode.
- Simplify the scene if needed. Temporarily disable demanding sources or effects to see whether a particular scene load is contributing.
Change one item at a time and repeat the test. OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guide covers administrator mode and reducing resolution or frame rate. If you use Linux, do not assume the Windows administrator step applies; focus on workload, output settings, GPU compatibility, and the session log.

Why common AMD AMF presets are not a universal streaming fix
OBS’s published AMD values—CQP 16–23, a 2-second keyframe interval, Quality preset, High profile, and 0 max B-frames—appear in its advanced recording settings guide. They are recording baselines, not a universal YouTube live-stream recipe. For a live stream, start with YouTube’s ingest requirements such as CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, then use the live controls actually exposed by your installed OBS/AMF version. Do not copy a recording rate-control recommendation over the platform’s streaming guidance without checking what the setting does in your encoder.
There is not enough information in the symptom alone to prescribe a model-specific AMF preset. The right controls depend on GPU model, operating system, OBS build, driver version, output resolution and frame rate, available encoder options, and the affected session’s log.

Test changes under realistic conditions
- Save a log from a session that reproduces the problem and note which OBS counter rises.
- Keep the same representative scene and output while testing one change at a time.
- Include audio and video movement similar to the actual broadcast; a static or very short test may not expose the same load or connection instability.
- Monitor OBS’s counters and YouTube’s stream health during the test. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing with representative audio and video and monitoring stream health.
- Record the change and result so you can undo changes that do not help.
Common symptoms and what to try
| What you observe | Likely area to investigate | First useful test |
|---|---|---|
| Network Dropped Frames increases | Upload stability, bitrate, ingest route, Wi-Fi, VPN or network software | Lower bitrate; test wired Ethernet or another ingest server |
| Rendering lag or encoding overload increases | GPU workload, rendering load, output resolution or frame rate | Run OBS as administrator on Windows; reduce GPU load or test a lower output |
| Problem appears only at a high bitrate | Connection may not sustain the selected bitrate | Choose a lower target based on sustained stability, not a brief speed-test peak |
| Problem appears only at 60 fps or a demanding scene | Rendering or encoding throughput may be insufficient | Test 30 fps or simplify the scene, changing one factor at a time |
| Dynamic bitrate reduces visible drops but quality changes | Congestion is being managed, not resolved | Keep it only if the quality trade-off is acceptable while investigating the connection |
