If your encoder cannot publish to YouTube Live from a Hostinger VPS in India, the location alone does not identify the cause. First verify the current YouTube RTMPS endpoint, stream key, port and TLS settings; then check the encoder; finally test outbound connectivity from the VPS itself. The exact error and timestamp matter: a TLS error, timeout, key error and connected-but-unhealthy stream point to different checks.
Identify where publishing fails
Record the complete relevant encoder error and log lines, the timestamp in UTC, encoder name and version, and whether the stream key was recently reset. Redact the key from logs and screenshots before sharing them. Note whether the failure is a connection timeout, a TLS or certificate error, a startup or key error, or a connection that establishes but delivers no feed or an unhealthy feed.

Also record whether you tested from another network. A successful attempt elsewhere can help isolate the VPS path, but it does not by itself show which part of that path is failing. A local encoder preview confirms only that the encoder is producing output; it does not prove YouTube is receiving it.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and go to Stream settings.
- Copy the current RTMPS URL shown there. YouTube may display the regular RTMP URL by default; use the lock control to reveal the RTMPS URL.
- Copy the stream key separately into the encoder’s stream-key field. Keep the server URL and key in their respective fields.
- If the encoder reports a startup error, refresh the key in Live Control Room and copy the current value into the encoder again.
Do not rely on a remembered or guessed endpoint, or simply add an “s” to an old RTMP address. YouTube’s instructions for setting up the stream are at YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming. Never post a real stream key publicly.

Verify RTMPS, TLS, port and SNI
RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS. Confirm that the encoder is using the exact RTMPS endpoint copied from Live Control Room and that it supports RTMPS. Google’s YouTube ingestion guide specifies TCP port 443: “The connection must be made to port 443 on the ingestion server.” For a custom encoder or client implementation, the TLS handshake must also include the ingestion hostname using SNI, which lets the service identify the hostname being contacted. - A cleartext RTMP connection sent to an RTMPS endpoint will not complete the expected TLS handshake.
- A wrong port or an encoder that lacks RTMPS support can produce connection or TLS errors even if the VPS can reach the host.
- A custom client that omits the required hostname in SNI may fail even when basic network reachability succeeds.
Check the encoder before blaming the VPS
YouTube recommends updating the encoder, refreshing the stream key when a third-party encoder reports a startup error, and checking the encoder’s output and CPU or system load. Inspect its logs and output settings, and confirm that its preview or local output is healthy. If one encoder remains problematic, YouTube suggests testing with a different encoder. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting steps.
A working preview is not proof of successful delivery: the encoder can produce video while its connection to YouTube fails. If the encoder reports that it is connected but YouTube receives nothing or reports an unhealthy feed, preserve the exact error and inspect the stream configuration and key alongside encoder logs and load. The actual error is needed to narrow that branch further.
Test the outbound connection from the VPS
Run network tests on the Hostinger VPS that is publishing, not only on a laptop or another server. Use the exact current ingestion hostname from Live Control Room, and test DNS resolution and TCP/TLS connectivity on port 443 while the encoder is trying to publish. A generic HTTPS request can show basic reachability, but it does not prove that the encoder’s RTMPS handshake—including its TLS and SNI details—works.

If the correctly configured connection times out, inspect the VPS’s local firewall rules and any Hostinger VPS firewall controls. Keep the destination hostname and port, source VPS IP, test output, UTC timestamps and relevant encoder logs together for escalation. YouTube advises testing outbound connectivity and says: “If you find issues with your Internet connection, contact your Internet service provider to troubleshoot.” See YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance.

What Hostinger’s port guidance can—and cannot—tell you
Hostinger’s published port guidance says outgoing ports on its servers are open except ports 0 and 25, and distinguishes fixed port settings on Web and Cloud hosting from VPS hosting for users who need more port control. That general page does not document the active firewall configuration or outbound route of a particular VPS. It therefore cannot confirm that port 443 is open on your instance, or establish that Hostinger blocks YouTube RTMPS from India.

If the exact Studio endpoint, RTMPS configuration, encoder and key check out but tests from the VPS still fail, send Hostinger the UTC timestamps, destination hostname and port, source VPS IP, test output and redacted encoder logs. Ask them to investigate the instance’s outbound route, firewall or egress policy, and any relevant network event. The instance-specific state remains unresolved until the server tests or provider response establish it.
