If your YouTube Live RTMP bitrate fluctuates on Airtel Xstream Fiber, first check the encoder settings and YouTube’s stream-health message, then compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet using the same stream profile. A fluctuating bitrate alone does not show whether the cause is the encoder, your home network, Airtel’s connection, or the route to YouTube.
Start with the encoder and YouTube’s stream health
Before changing settings, record the output resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and any encoder warnings or observed bitrate changes. While streaming, check YouTube’s stream-health messages. Match the reported issue to the correction YouTube identifies rather than changing several variables at once.

YouTube’s health documentation includes configuration issues such as bitrateHigh, bitrateLow, gopSizeLong, openGop, and videoCodec. It also describes videoIngestionStarved as YouTube not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. A warning describes a condition on the named stream; it does not, on its own, identify Airtel as the cause. The absence of a configuration warning does not prove that the upload path is stable.

| H.264 stream profile | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
YouTube’s table gives different values for AV1 and H.265, so do not apply these H.264 figures to another codec. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube’s health guidance warns that a keyframe interval longer than four seconds can cause buffering.
If the health message identifies a bitrate, keyframe/GOP, codec, or frame-rate issue, correct that specific setting and test again with representative motion and audio. YouTube’s guidance is to choose a quality that can produce a reliable stream on your internet connection.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
Test the same device and encoder profile over Wi-Fi and, if the device supports it, a direct Ethernet connection to the ONT/router. Airtel’s home troubleshooting guidance identifies an RJ45 Cat5/Cat6 LAN cable for this connection. Keep the stream settings constant so the comparison focuses on the network path.

Airtel notes that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi generally reaches farther, while 5 GHz can provide faster speeds over shorter coverage. If the symptom changes between Wi-Fi and Ethernet, that is useful evidence about the home network path, but it cannot by itself distinguish a router issue from an Airtel-side or YouTube-ingestion issue. A cable may help you run the comparison; it is not a guaranteed fix.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Delivers up to 2,500 sq. ft. of coverage for up to 80 devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Check RTMPS when the problem is a connection error
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over SSL/TLS. If the encoder reports connection failures, timeouts, or SSL errors, verify the selected protocol, the exact YouTube ingestion endpoint, and its port rather than treating the error as a bitrate fluctuation.
- Use an RTMPS URL with a valid YouTube endpoint. YouTube’s RTMPS documentation specifies port 443 and requires the server hostname for authentication through SNI.
- An SSL error can result from using the wrong server or port.
- A timeout can occur if cleartext RTMP is sent to an endpoint expecting RTMPS.
These checks address connection setup and protocol errors. Switching to RTMPS alone is not evidence that variable upload throughput will stop.

Run a controlled test and prepare useful evidence
- Record the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and any network or encoding warnings.
- Start a test stream and note YouTube’s health messages alongside the times when bitrate changes occur.
- Keep the settings fixed and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if available, using the same device and stream profile.
- If you change an encoder value, change one at a time and record what happens to bitrate and stream health before making another change.
- If the problem persists, give the relevant support channel the timestamps, encoder logs, YouTube health messages, output settings, and whether the issue also occurs over Ethernet.
A single speed-test result is not proof of sustained live-stream performance. Compare upload observations from the same device and network and use them alongside the encoder logs and YouTube health messages. The official guidance reviewed here does not establish a particular Airtel Xstream Fiber fault, a time-of-day pattern, or a test result for Airtel lines.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| YouTube reports low or high bitrate | Confirm the codec, resolution, and frame rate, then compare the configured bitrate with the matching YouTube table row. |
| YouTube reports a long GOP or keyframe issue | Check the keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. |
| YouTube reports a codec or frame-rate issue | Check that the encoder is sending the codec and frame rate selected for the stream. |
| YouTube reports ingestion starvation | Compare the encoder’s output and network warnings with YouTube’s health message; test Ethernet against Wi-Fi without changing the profile. |
| The encoder reports a timeout or SSL error | Verify RTMPS, the ingestion endpoint, port 443, and server hostname. |
| The stream behaves differently on Ethernet and Wi-Fi | Record the difference and share it with support; it helps narrow the network segment but does not prove which provider or platform component is responsible. |
