To make YouTube recommendations more relevant, dismiss individual videos, block recommendations from specific channels, remove watch or search history that no longer reflects your interests, or turn off watch history if you accept a less-personalized Home page. These controls affect different parts of YouTube and do not guarantee an immediate or complete change.
How do I stop YouTube recommending videos I don’t like?
Start with the narrowest control that matches the problem. On Home or Watch Next, open the More menu beside a recommendation and select “Not interested.” If YouTube offers “Tell us why,” choose the reason that applies, such as “I’ve already watched the video” or “I don’t like the video.” Menu placement and available choices vary by device; on some TVs and consoles, use the remote’s select button to open the options.

This is feedback about a particular video, not a setting that blocks every similar video or changes all recommendation surfaces. YouTube lists “Not interested” feedback among the signals its recommendation system can use. YouTube’s explanation of recommendation signals also notes that different areas of YouTube rely on them differently.
How do I stop recommendations from a channel?
If you want to avoid a channel rather than one video, open the More menu beside one of its recommended videos and choose “Don’t recommend channel.” This is channel-level feedback, so it is broader than dismissing a single video. Some YouTube surfaces may also show a channel control specific to posts. The wording or menu location can differ across devices.

Use this option for channels you do not want YouTube to recommend; use “Not interested” when the issue is one particular video. Neither control is a guarantee that every unwanted recommendation will disappear.
Why are my YouTube recommendations so bad?
YouTube uses multiple signals, including watch and search history, subscriptions, likes and dislikes, recommendation feedback, and satisfaction surveys. The signal that matters most depends on where you see the recommendation: watch history is the primary basis for Home recommendations, while the video you are currently watching is the main signal for the next-video suggestion. That means an unwanted suggestion beside a video you are watching may not respond to the same changes as your Home feed.

Google Account activity can also influence recommendations, search results, in-app notifications, and suggested videos in other places. You can review or control account activity in YouTube’s recommendation and search-result controls. This does not establish that any particular Google service caused a specific video to appear.
How can I remove old activity from recommendations?
Delete watch or search activity that no longer represents what you want YouTube to learn from. YouTube’s watch-history controls let you review activity, remove individual watched videos or searches, and delete activity for a chosen period. YouTube says deleted watch-history content will not be used as a basis for future video recommendations.

Pay attention to the scope before confirming: deleting watch history for a selected period can also delete search history from that same period. If you only want to remove one item, use the individual-item control rather than deleting a wider range.
Should I turn off YouTube watch history?
Turn off watch history only if you are comfortable with YouTube no longer using new watch activity to personalize recommendations. YouTube says activity while watch history is off is not saved to that history or used to improve recommendations. On mobile, settings may include Manage all history and controls for whether YouTube searches are included; labels and paths vary. You can turn history back on when you want future viewing to inform recommendations again.

This is a broad trade-off, not a selective filter for bad videos. YouTube says that when watch history is off and there is no significant prior watch history, Home recommendations are removed; the search bar and navigation remain. Its Help page puts it this way: “For people with YouTube watch history off and no significant prior watch history, the homepage will continue to show the search bar and the left-hand Guide menu.” See How YouTube recommendations work.

Some controls require you to be signed in, and the exact steps vary among computer, mobile, TV, streaming-device, and console interfaces. YouTube’s device-specific recommendation instructions describe the available paths. These settings are ways to steer personalization, not a promise that the feed will change immediately or that all unwanted suggestions will stop.
