If a YouTube playlist edit seems to disappear, first confirm it with the right control for your device, then reopen the playlist and check the exact field or order you changed. On desktop, title and description edits use Done; on iPhone or iPad, tap the checkmark; in YouTube Studio on Android, tap Save. Reordering a playlist made up only of Shorts is not supported, so that particular limitation is not a save failure.
Confirm the edit in the interface you are using
YouTube’s editing controls differ by platform. Make one change, use the completion control shown below, and then reopen the playlist to verify it.

On desktop
- Open YouTube and select the playlist from the Guide.
- Use Edit beside the relevant section. For a title or description, change the field and click Done.
- When adding a description through the described desktop flow, click outside the edit box to save it.
- To change order, drag a video or Short up or down.
If these steps do not match the current desktop interface, YouTube advises that you may be using an older site version; update to the current YouTube version and check again. YouTube’s desktop playlist editing instructions

- In the YouTube app, open Library and select the playlist.
- Tap Edit, then change the title or description.
- Tap the checkmark in the upper corner to confirm.
- To reorder items, hold the two-line handle beside a video or Short and drag it.
YouTube’s playlist editing instructions note that editing may not be available for supervised accounts.

In YouTube Studio on Android
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content > Playlists.
- Open the playlist’s options, tap Edit, and change its title, description, privacy, or order.
- Tap Save.
- For a video’s playlist membership, edit the video, adjust the playlist checkbox, tap Done, then tap Save.
YouTube Studio’s playlist guidance also notes that playlist editing may not be available for supervised accounts.
Check that the specific change persisted
After confirming, navigate away and reopen the playlist; on desktop, you can refresh the page first. Look at the particular title, description, privacy setting, membership, or item order you changed. Reopening is a practical way to verify the result, not a special YouTube-prescribed repair step.

If an order change seemed to work only while viewing a video, check it from the playlist page. A drag in the watch-page panel may change the temporary viewing order rather than the playlist’s saved order.
Set playlist visibility separately
Playlist visibility controls who can find, view, or share the playlist. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Playlists > Details, choose the visibility, and click Save. In the YouTube app, open the playlist’s edit controls, choose the privacy setting, and save the change.

Why won’t my playlist order save?
It contains only Shorts
YouTube does not allow manual reordering of a playlist containing only Shorts. If that is your playlist, the unavailable reorder control is a feature limit, not evidence of a failed save. YouTube’s playlist editing guidance

The order changed in a watch-page panel
A change made in the watch-page panel may affect the current viewing sequence rather than the saved playlist order. Edit the order from the playlist page, confirm the change, and reopen the playlist to check it.

The following checks are practical troubleshooting steps, not a YouTube-mandated procedure or a guaranteed fix. YouTube’s playlist editing pages do not identify a single cause for an edit that reverts after confirmation.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
- Identify what reverted. Note whether it was the title or description, visibility, an added or removed video, or the order.
- Try one small edit. Change only one field or setting and use the correct completion control for your platform. This makes it easier to tell what happened.
- Reopen the playlist. Check whether that specific change remains after navigating away or refreshing.
- Check the playlist type if order is the issue. Manual reordering is unavailable when the playlist contains only Shorts.
- Check account eligibility and software versions. YouTube says editing may not be available for supervised accounts. It also warns that old YouTube versions may not follow current instructions and that older browsers can have problems with newer features. These are checks, not proof of why an edit reverted. - Try another current YouTube interface. Comparing the same edit in another supported app or browser can help you see whether the issue appears limited to one interface. This is an isolation step, not a guaranteed repair.
- Send feedback if it continues. Include your device and operating system, app or browser version, playlist type, exact edit, confirmation action, and what appears after reopening. YouTube’s editing guidance does not promise a specific repair or resolution.
For developers using the YouTube Data API
If the playlist is being edited through an integration rather than the consumer app, check the API request. The YouTube Data API playlists.update documentation says the method modifies playlist data and requires authorization. It also warns that omitting snippet.description from a request deletes the existing description. That API-specific behavior does not apply as a fix for ordinary app or desktop edits.
