How to Set OBS Audio Monitoring for a Hindi Relaxation Stream on YouTube

To monitor a Hindi relaxation stream in OBS, select your listening device under Settings → Audio, then set the relevant source’s monitoring behavior in Audio Mixer → Edit → Advanced Audio Properties. Listen locally, check that the source is not captured twice, and separately verify what reaches YouTube: hearing audio through OBS monitoring alone does not confirm viewers can hear it.

Set up OBS audio monitoring for your Hindi relaxation stream

Hindi language and relaxation content do not require a special OBS monitoring control. The right setup depends on your operating system, the audio sources in your scene, and the device you want to listen through. Include the actual music, ambience, and any Hindi speech you plan to use when testing so you can judge the routing and balance under representative conditions.

  1. Choose the monitoring device. In OBS, open Settings → Audio and select the device you intend to hear audio through. Connect it first if it is not already available. OBS’s Audio Mixer Guide explains that the mixer’s monitor button plays a source through the monitoring device configured in Settings.
  2. Choose which source to monitor. In the Audio Mixer, open Edit → Advanced Audio Properties. For each source you want to check, select the monitoring behavior appropriate to your setup. Monitor only the sources you need to hear; monitoring is a local listening route, separate from sending audio to the stream.
  3. Play the source and check the signal. Confirm that the relevant mixer meter moves and that the sound is audible through the selected device. If the sound is too quiet or loud, check the source level first, then the operating-system level and OBS fader as appropriate. Volume behavior can vary by device, so test rather than assume that one control affects every route.
  4. Check for duplicate capture. OBS warns that echo can occur if the same device is captured as an Audio Input/Output Capture source and is also selected globally in Settings → Audio. If you use a scene-specific device source, disable the matching global device. See OBS’s Audio Sources guidance.
  5. Record and listen back. Record a representative session and play the file before going live. OBS specifically recommends recording a session as usual and listening back before a broadcast. This can reveal missing, duplicated, or unbalanced audio that a local monitoring check may not catch.

Read the OBS mixer meters without treating them as a loudness guarantee

OBS describes green as a typical range for background music and sound effects, yellow for speech, and red as close to clipping. These are qualitative cues, not a guarantee of how loud the audio will sound to viewers. OBS notes that sounds that appear to have similar meter levels may still sound louder to an audience. Listen to the recording as well as watching the meter.

The OBS Mixer Guide says the meter’s top dot retains the loudest reading over 20 seconds. Use the meter to spot signal and potential clipping while you test, not as a substitute for listening to the actual mix.

Use YouTube’s audio settings for the delivery format

Monitoring settings govern what you hear locally; encoder settings govern the audio format sent to YouTube. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS and specifies AAC for 5.1 surround support. Its recommended advanced settings are:

Delivery format Sample rate Audio bitrate
Stereo 44.1 kHz 128 kbps
5.1 surround 48 kHz 384 kbps

These are YouTube’s published recommendations retrieved on 2026-10-03; the page does not display a publication date. A typical stereo relaxation stream should use the stereo values unless its actual delivery format is 5.1. They are not Hindi-specific settings.

Verify the audio viewers receive before going live

Local monitoring proves only that OBS can play a selected source through your configured device. It does not by itself prove that the source is routed into the live output or that YouTube receives it correctly. After checking the local monitor, make a recording and listen to it; when possible, run a pre-live test with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast. Check the received audio and YouTube’s stream health during the event. YouTube recommends representative testing and monitoring stream health.

  • Confirm that the intended music, ambience, and speech are present in the recording or test stream.
  • Listen for silence, clipping, echo, or an unintended second copy of a source.
  • Check the YouTube stream’s received audio and health separately from OBS’s local monitor.

Troubleshooting OBS monitoring problems

The meter moves, but you hear nothing

Check that the intended device is selected in Settings → Audio, is connected and available to the operating system, and is the device you are actually listening through. In Edit → Advanced Audio Properties, confirm that the source’s monitoring behavior is enabled as intended. Test the device and system volume because their behavior can vary by device.

You hear an echo or doubled audio

Look for the same device being captured both globally in Settings → Audio and as an Audio Input/Output Capture source in a scene. OBS identifies this overlap as a possible cause of echo. Disable the duplicate route and test again.

You hear the audio locally, but it is missing from the stream

Monitoring is not proof of stream routing. Record and listen back, then make a representative pre-live test and verify the audio received by YouTube. Check that the intended source is included in the stream output, rather than relying on what you hear through the monitoring device.

The stream sounds louder or harsher than the meter suggests

Do not use meter color as a delivered-loudness promise. Listen to a representative recording or test stream, adjust the source and OBS levels as needed, and check that the signal is not approaching clipping.
