YouTube Music’s Activity Feed is no longer an upcoming feature: it began rolling out to Android and iOS on April 9, 2024. Open it from the Activity bell in the top-right area of the app’s Home tab to see new-release alerts and other personalized updates. Its contents and exact placement can vary by account, region, and app layout.
What is YouTube Music’s Activity Feed?
Activity is an in-app inbox for updates, not a conventional social timeline or a complete release calendar. Google describes it as a place to find releases from artists you follow, friend-curated playlists, and more. The feed began with recent singles and albums; it has since expanded to cover other personalized YouTube Music activity.

It is distinct from phone push notifications: the feed is a screen inside YouTube Music, while push notifications are alerts delivered by your device. It is also different from Home and Explore/Search, which are primarily for recommendations and discovery.
How to open the Activity Feed
- Open the YouTube Music app on Android, iPhone, or iPad.
- Tap Home.
- Look in the upper-right area for the Activity or notification bell and tap it.
Google places the Activity Feed control at the top-right of the Home page (YouTube Music Help). Older screenshots may show the bell beside Search. In a 2026 navigation redesign, Search moved to the bottom bar while Activity remained in the top-right; rollout and layout can differ by device or account (9to5Google).

What can appear in the feed?
The first version focused on new artist releases. Entries were reported in reverse chronological order, grouped under labels such as “This week” and “Earlier,” with the artist, cover art, and release title (9to5Google).
YouTube Music’s September 2025 feature notes describe a broader feed. Depending on what is relevant to your account, it can include:

- New singles and albums, including release alerts beyond artists you explicitly follow.
- Friend-curated playlists.
- Radio Builder and Sound Search activity.
- Daypart mixes such as Workout Mix and “Jump Back In” prompts.
- Podcast-related notifications.
The feed is personalized and notification-driven, not a guaranteed list of every release. Release entries were initially described as chronological, but the broader mix of activity should not be treated as a perfect chronological archive.
Do you have to follow an artist to see a release?
Following an artist is useful if you want to deliberately track them. The original release-focused feed drew on artist subscriptions, and the rollout report pointed users to Library → Artists filter → Subscriptions. It also described a “Suggested for you” list of artists informed partly by listening history (9to5Google).

That is no longer the whole picture: YouTube Music’s later notes say new-release notifications received by a user can appear even when the artist is not subscribed. Following someone or enabling notifications still does not guarantee that every release will appear.
How to manage notifications
- Tap your profile picture in YouTube Music.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Review the available categories, such as music recommendations, playlist updates, podcast recommendations, product updates, and Recap notifications.
Google documents this path in its notification settings help. Also check your phone’s notification permissions if you are not receiving push alerts. These controls relate to delivered notifications; Google does not document a one-to-one guarantee that a particular setting will populate every type of Activity entry.

Why might the button be missing or the feed be empty?
The Activity Feed rolled out to Android and iOS, but the initial rollout was server-side, and Google notes that product experiences can vary by region. Updating the app is sensible, but it may not by itself change what is enabled for an account.
- Check the right screen: Activity is associated with the mobile app’s Home experience.
- Update and relaunch: Install the latest available app version, then fully close and reopen YouTube Music.
- Review settings: Check in-app notification categories and device-level permissions, especially if alerts rather than the feed control are missing.
- Allow for account or region differences: Google warns that available experiences can differ by country or region (YouTube Music Help).
- If the feed is empty: You may have no recent qualifying activity, may not follow artists, or may be seeing different personalization. Follow artists you want to track and enable relevant notifications, but do not expect every release to be listed.
If those checks do not help, signing out and back in is a later troubleshooting option; reinstalling the app is not a guaranteed fix.

Is Activity available on desktop web?
The April 2024 rollout report said the feed was not available on the web at launch. Google’s current help page describes the control in the mobile app and does not establish equivalent web availability. The evidence therefore supports using the mobile app; it does not support a universal claim that the same feed is available in the desktop player.

Google’s feature description also mentions friend-curated playlists and other social activity, but Activity is best understood primarily as an updates inbox—not a friend-listening dashboard.
