In September 2020, FuboTV’s $79.99-per-month Elite bundle was a compelling option for a large, sports-focused household: it combined the standard package, Fubo Extra, 1,000 hours of Cloud DVR and Family Share Max for five simultaneous streams. The package’s advertised value was about $100 when purchased separately, but that did not make it the best choice for everyone. A smaller household could save $15 per month with the $64.99 Family plan, and today’s Fubo Elite is a different product.
This is a historical explanation of the bundle announced during the 2020 stay-at-home period, followed by a current-product correction.
What the 2020 FuboTV Elite bundle included
Android Headlines reported the Elite plan on September 25, 2020, when live sports were returning during the COVID-19 stay-at-home period. The reported package was:
| Feature | Elite in September 2020 |
|---|---|
| Monthly price | $79.99 |
| Channels | The then-standard FuboTV package plus Fubo Extra, described as more than 30 additional channels |
| Cloud DVR | 1,000 hours |
| Simultaneous streams | Five through Family Share Max |
| Reported separate value | Approximately $100 per month |
The roughly $20 difference was presented as an approximately 20% bundle saving. That calculation only applied if a customer would otherwise buy every included component; someone who would have chosen the smaller Family plan was not actually saving $20.

Why it fit a large household during the 2020 stay-at-home period
Five people could watch different programs
Family Share Max addressed the practical problem of one subscription serving several people. Five simultaneous streams could cover separate rooms, children’s programming and a live game without forcing viewers to coordinate one screen.
The channel mix went beyond sports
FuboTV was sports-led, but Fubo Extra broadened the package with examples such as Cooking Channel, DIY Network, PeopleTV, BBC World News and TeenNick. That made the larger bundle more useful to a mixed household than a narrowly focused sports package.
A large DVR suited heavier viewing
With people spending more time at home, 1,000 hours of Cloud DVR gave a household room to record across several interests instead of constantly deleting programs.

Live sports had returned
The timing mattered. The NBA playoffs and MLB season were underway, and the NFL season was beginning in late September 2020. The original coverage highlighted FuboTV’s sports orientation and cited ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, NFL Network, Big Ten Network, Pac-12 Network and SEC Network. Those were period-specific examples, not a permanent promise about today’s lineup.

The Family plan was listed at $64.99 per month with 250 DVR hours and three simultaneous streams. A Showtime bundle was listed at $69.99 for its first three months and $74.99 thereafter. The useful question was how many people would watch at once and whether the extra channels and storage would be used.
| Household need | Better 2020 fit |
|---|---|
| One or two viewers with ordinary recording needs | Family |
| Three simultaneous streams | Family |
| Four or five people watching separately | Elite |
| More sports and lifestyle channels | Elite |
| Lowest monthly bill | Family |
| Maximum DVR capacity | Elite |
Elite was therefore potentially ideal for a large, sports-oriented household, not universally “perfect.” Paying $15 more each month made sense only when the fifth stream, Fubo Extra and larger DVR would prevent real compromises.

What the sports pitch did—and did not—guarantee
FuboTV’s base-package sports emphasis was a major reason the 2020 Elite bundle stood out. However, a national channel list never guarantees a particular game. Local affiliates and regional sports networks vary by ZIP code, while league rights and blackouts can block an otherwise expected broadcast.
- Check the buyer’s ZIP code for local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations.
- Confirm that the regional sports network carrying the desired team is offered.
- Check the exact league, team and event rights rather than relying on a high channel count.
- Account for home-area, device and location rules if viewers live in different places.
Trial terms were different then and now
The 2020 report warned that Elite did not necessarily receive FuboTV’s then-standard seven-day trial. That was a historical condition of the launch period.
A current Fubo signup-page snapshot shows an Elite listing at $83.99 per month with a five-day trial, but trial eligibility and duration can change. Check the live checkout flow for the offer available to your account, and distinguish a trial from an introductory price, the recurring rate, taxes and add-ons.

What Fubo Elite looks like now
Fubo’s public signup page snapshot available for this article lists a current Elite plan at $83.99 per month with 275 channels, unlimited DVR, 4K included and a five-day trial. Prices, fees, promotions and channel availability can change.
It is not the 2020 plan renamed: the price, channel count and DVR model differ, and the current page does not establish the old five-stream Family Share Max allowance. Do not carry that five-stream figure forward without checking current terms.
“Unlimited DVR” also has a practical limit: the same page says recordings expire after nine months. That matters if you want a permanent archive rather than time-shifted viewing.

Quick Recap
How to judge a Fubo plan before subscribing in 2026
- Enter your ZIP code and verify every local station and regional sports network you need.
- List the teams, leagues and specific events you watch; then check their rights and blackout rules.
- Confirm the current simultaneous-stream allowance and any home-location restrictions.
- Read the DVR retention rule. Unlimited capacity does not mean recordings remain indefinitely.
- Separate the trial period, promotional rate, standard recurring price, taxes, regional fees and add-ons.
- Check whether the 4K label applies to the programs you intend to watch and whether your devices support them.
- Compare the resulting total with YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or a smaller sports-focused package.
Who should have chosen Elite in 2020?
- Large sports household: Elite’s five streams, extra channels and 1,000-hour DVR addressed genuine shared-use needs.
- Small household: Family was usually the more rational value when three streams and 250 DVR hours were enough.
- General-entertainment household: The extra sports-oriented cost was harder to justify; a broad general service or an on-demand bundle could fit better.
- Archive-minded viewer: Storage capacity alone was not enough; retention rules needed checking, especially when comparing with today’s nine-month expiration policy.
