That was a powerful sign of initial demand, but it was not a count of 10 million active players—and it arrived alongside widespread Android complaints about performance, graphics, controls and compatibility.
What happened
Activision released Warzone Mobile worldwide on Android and iOS on March 21, 2024, following earlier limited regional testing. The official launch timing is documented in Activision’s worldwide launch announcement.
Within the first week after that global release, contemporaneous coverage observed Google Play listing the Android game at more than 10 million downloads. Reports dated March 23–27 support “within roughly the first week” or “less than a week,” but do not establish the exact hour or a precise total.
What “10 million downloads” actually means
The milestone was a rounded Google Play install bracket observed by outside outlets, not a separately announced Activision statistic. Dot Esports’ contemporaneous report linked the number to the store listing.

That distinction limits what can be concluded:
- It measures cumulative Android downloads or installs shown by Google Play.
- It does not establish 10 million unique people.
- It does not show how many users completed onboarding, played a match or remained active after a day or a week.
- It does not reveal uninstalls, revenue, spending or retention.
- It says nothing about the separate number of iOS downloads or other distribution channels.
Reinstallations and multiple devices can also affect how a platform’s install figure should be interpreted. Google Play and Activision did not publish a more precise methodology or exact count in the reports available for this milestone.
Why demand was so strong
The launch combined several advantages: the global Call of Duty brand, the recognition of Warzone’s battle-royale format, free-to-play distribution and links to the wider Call of Duty ecosystem, including cross-progression features promoted for the mobile release. Those factors could produce rapid acquisition even before players knew how well the game would run on their particular phones.

Android performance problems accompanied the milestone
High downloads did not mean a uniformly good launch experience. Contemporary coverage documented substantial Android complaints involving:
- low or inconsistent graphical fidelity;
- poor optimization and unstable performance on some devices;
- controls that failed or behaved inconsistently;
- hardware compatibility limits; and
- negative Google Play reactions.
In other words, being able to download the game was not the same as being able to play it smoothly. Reports of unusually high uninstall activity circulated online, but those claims were not independently established as a measured statistic; Android Headlines treated the issue as unverified rather than a confirmed uninstall total.

Did it work on every Android phone?
No. Device fragmentation was a central issue from the launch period. The requirements also changed later: reporting on a November 2024 update said the game required at least Android 13 and a GPU supporting bindless texturing, which made some previously compatible devices unsupported. Android Authority described that later change; it should not be treated as the original March 2024 launch requirement.
Was 10 million downloads a successful launch?

The precise verdict is therefore narrower than “the game was a hit.” Warzone Mobile achieved major early Android reach, while product-quality problems made that reach less meaningful as a measure of satisfaction or durability.

What happened to Warzone Mobile afterward?
Activision later removed the game from Google Play and Apple’s App Store in May 2025 and ended real-money purchases on May 19, 2025. Remaining access and previously purchased content were scheduled to end on April 17, 2026, according to the Activision service-changes notice. That shutdown has now passed, so the 10-million figure is a historical launch milestone, not an indication that the app is currently available or supported.

Activision identifies Call of Duty: Mobile as the current franchise alternative, with multiplayer, battle royale, Zombies, ranked play, seasonal events and Battle Pass content. It is a separate game—not a technical continuation of Warzone Mobile—and unofficial APK or sideloading services are not a responsible substitute for a discontinued, unsupported service.

Bottom line
Warzone Mobile passed 10 million Google Play downloads within about a week of its March 21, 2024 worldwide launch. That proves rapid Android acquisition, not 10 million active or retained players, combined iOS-and-Android performance, revenue or lasting success. The milestone remains notable because it showed the reach of Call of Duty on mobile, but serious Android launch problems and the service’s eventual 2026 shutdown put the number in proper perspective.
