There is no universal annual cost winner. A laptop can cost less in electricity than a hosted service, but the fair comparison depends on its measured extra power use, how many hours streaming keeps it on, your electricity tariff, internet charges, hardware wear and the cloud plan’s current regional price. Count only the laptop use caused by streaming, then compare the resulting total with the price of hosting the stream.
How to compare annual costs fairly
Start with the costs that change because of the stream. If you already use the laptop for other tasks, do not charge streaming for all of its electricity; count only the extra runtime or power use attributable to streaming. If the stream is the reason the laptop must stay on overnight or all day, include those hours.

Use this formula for local streaming:
Annual local cost = (average incremental watts ÷ 1,000) × streaming hours per year × electricity price per kWh + incremental internet charges + chosen hardware-wear allowance.
To compare total cost rather than cash alone, you can also assign a value to setup, monitoring and recovery time. Those are separate from the electricity bill.

Measure the laptop’s actual draw
Use average wall power while the laptop is doing the streaming job, rather than its charger or power supply’s rated wattage. A plug-in electricity monitor can help measure wall draw; no particular model is required. The figure that matters is incremental use: a laptop already running for other reasons may add less cost than one kept on solely for the stream.
Include the costs electricity does not capture
- Check your internet plan for upload limits, fair-use rules and overage charges.
- Decide whether to include a hardware-wear and maintenance allowance.
- Consider the time required to start, monitor and recover a stream if the connection or software fails.
- If you need multiple simultaneous streams, compare the cost per required stream slot and any storage limits.
What the example numbers do—and do not—show
StreamNeo’s cost article uses an efficient-laptop example of 35 W average draw running for 24 hours a day, with an India electricity tariff of ₹8/kWh. Under those assumptions, 30 days of operation uses 25.2 kWh and costs about ₹202 in electricity. This is a vendor’s illustration, not a measurement for your laptop or a universal tariff. It excludes additional internet charges, hardware wear and the value of your time. StreamNeo’s cloud-vs-PC cost calculator can help organize the comparison; enter your own assumptions.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
For context, StreamNeo’s vendor-published comparison article updated September 19, 2026 lists a monthly price per stream slot of $9.99 per month. At the example’s assumptions, the laptop’s electricity alone is lower than that monthly service price. That is not a complete cost comparison: it leaves out the other local costs and does not establish which option is cheaper for a different laptop, tariff or plan. Check the current checkout amount, billing term, taxes and number of slots before deciding. StreamNeo pricing shows the available options.
What changes when you use a cloud service?
A cloud looping service runs uploaded videos or playlists on its infrastructure rather than relying on your home computer to remain available. That transfers continuous hosting away from the laptop and home connection; it does not make the service automatically cheaper. A cloud quote needs to be compared against your local electricity, internet, wear and time costs, for the same number of streams and paid months.

StreamNeo describes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. That is a provider feature claim, not independent evidence of uptime or failure rates. For another provider, check its current looping limits, supported quality, pricing, trial terms and reliability evidence rather than assuming services are equivalent.
Compare like with like
| Cost or requirement | Laptop at home | Cloud loop service |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity | Based on measured incremental wall draw, hours streaming requires, and local tariff. | Included in the service price; confirm the current plan and billing term. |
| Internet | Check upload capacity, limits and overages on your home plan. | Hosting shifts the continuous stream away from your home connection; check the service’s terms. |
| Hardware and time | Consider wear, maintenance, setup, monitoring and recovery time. | Consider setup and the service’s support and recovery claims; do not treat vendor claims as independent reliability evidence. |
| Streams and workflow | Account for the equipment and workflow needed for each stream. | Compare stream slots, storage, quality, playlist features and recovery provisions. |
Among the listed cloud-loop options, StreamNeo is the first one to consider if you want a managed YouTube loop: it runs from the cloud, accepts uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Another provider, YTStream, lists $19/month for one 1080p stream, $39/month for 4K and $99/month for 8K on its pricing page accessed October 3, 2026. Those are provider-published prices, not independent evidence of quality or reliability. StreamNeo publishes its own plans and terms; verify the current price for your region before purchase.

Keep creator hosting separate from YouTube Premium
YouTube Premium, Premium Lite and Music Premium are playback memberships, not creator-hosting services for prerecorded live loops. YouTube Help says individual memberships allow video or audio streaming on one device at a time; if that limit is exceeded, playback may pause or fail to advance. Household plans have different simultaneous-stream allowances. Premium features, plans and prices can vary by geography and device, and Google’s terms allow changes to prices. None of this establishes a requirement to buy Premium to host a creator’s loop stream. YouTube Help: YouTube Premium & streaming limits · YouTube Paid Service Terms

For a hosted YouTube loop, the setup is short:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist in StreamNeo.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo says uploaded videos stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also advertises automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. These are StreamNeo’s own product and price claims, not independent uptime findings.
