Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →An MCN-managed YouTube channel must meet YouTube’s ordinary channel-level live-streaming requirements: it must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s MCN guidance does not describe network membership as an exemption. Check the channel’s own live access in YouTube Studio before planning a stream.
Check whether the channel can go live
- Verify the channel. YouTube lists a verified channel as a requirement for live streaming.
- Check the restriction period. YouTube says the channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. A policy or copyright issue may lead to a restriction. YouTube also prohibits using another channel to get around an active live-stream restriction.
- Confirm live access on the channel itself. MCN membership does not establish that a particular channel is cleared to stream. Review its access and status in YouTube Studio before the event; account-specific restrictions can affect the answer.
These baseline conditions come from YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and restriction guidance. The pages are live documentation; check them and the channel’s current Studio status when you are preparing to stream.

Choose a streaming method
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. The right method depends on what you are broadcasting and how you want to produce it; YouTube does not make expensive equipment a general eligibility requirement.
- Mobile: Use YouTube’s mobile live-streaming workflow where it is available to the channel.
- Computer webcam: This method uses a webcam. A webcam is not a universal requirement for channels using another method.
- Encoder: An encoder workflow is suited to productions such as gameplay or events. Follow YouTube’s setup guidance for the chosen encoder.
See YouTube’s setup guide for current workflow details. The method you choose does not replace the channel-level access checks above.

Give stream operators the right channel permissions
If an MCN team member or another operator will run the stream, grant access through YouTube Studio channel permissions instead of sharing the Google Account password. Choose a role based on the actions the person needs to perform. YouTube documents the role controls and their limits in its channel permissions guide.
| Role or access consideration | What to check |
|---|---|
| Manager or Editor | YouTube says these roles can manage streams and chat or moderate in Live Control Room. |
| Owner | YouTube says owners can manage live streams and channel permissions. |
| Role limits | Capabilities vary by role. For example, Editors cannot manage permissions or delete/reset stream keys. Confirm the role’s current capabilities before assigning it. |
Grant only the access needed for the job, and verify that the operator can reach the relevant controls before the scheduled stream.

Keep live access separate from monetization
Being able to start a live stream and being eligible to earn money from it are different questions. YouTube’s MCN instructions cover workflows for managing monetization settings on network channels; they also say those channels must be reviewed and comply with YouTube monetization policies. MCN affiliation alone does not guarantee monetization or turn on live access. See YouTube’s MCN monetization guidance.
The YouTube Partner Program has its own eligibility and review process. Its listed conditions include policy compliance, an eligible country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, advanced features access, and an active or newly configured AdSense for YouTube account. Thresholds and channel status can change or vary by account, so check the current YPP eligibility guidance and the channel’s Studio page. Those are monetization checks, not substitutes for the basic live-stream requirements.
Rights and policy checks still apply
Before going live, make sure the channel and content comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and that the content provider has the necessary rights, including rights to music, and follows applicable laws. An MCN relationship does not remove these obligations. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions; policy or copyright problems can also affect live access.
