If YouTube Live is missing, first confirm you are using the right channel, then check YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and any notices in Studio. A newly enabled feature can take up to 24 hours to become available; if streaming worked before, check for a restriction or strike instead. A phone’s subscriber threshold applies to mobile streaming, not desktop access.
First identify which problem you have
“Live streaming is missing” can mean the option never appeared after you tried to enable it, or that a channel which previously streamed has lost access. These cases call for different checks. YouTube’s own feature status and account notices—not the device you use to broadcast—are the best starting evidence.

| You are enabling live streaming for the first time | Channel verification and Feature eligibility; if activation is newly requested, allow up to 24 hours for the first stream to become available. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming |
| Live streaming worked before, but is now unavailable | Studio notices, restrictions or strikes, the selected channel, and—if someone else signs in—their channel role. YouTube Help: channel permissions |
| The option is missing only in the YouTube mobile app | Check mobile eligibility, including the requirement of at least 50 subscribers. This is a mobile requirement, not a general desktop requirement. YouTube Help: mobile live streaming |
Check the channel and its feature status
1. Make sure Studio is showing the intended channel
If you manage more than one channel, open the profile or channel switcher and select the channel you want to stream from. Then open YouTube Studio and confirm its name or avatar. Eligibility is channel-specific, so checking another channel’s settings will not establish the status of the intended one.
2. Inspect Feature eligibility
- On a computer, open YouTube Studio.
- Select Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Review the status of the relevant features and complete any verification or access steps YouTube displays.
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that creators must be at least 16 to live stream. Feature access and requirements are determined by YouTube for each channel; phone verification alone does not clear a policy restriction or establish that a newly requested feature has finished activating. See YouTube Help: feature access and Get started with live streaming.

If you are signing in for the channel owner
A channel owner and a person acting through delegated channel permissions are not the same thing. In Studio, open Settings → Permissions and check which person and role are listed. YouTube documents live-stream management for owners, managers, and editors. If your access does not match one of those roles, ask the channel owner or administrator to review the permissions rather than treating the issue as a missing feature on the owner’s account. Some delegated actions may vary by role. See YouTube channel permissions.
If live streaming disappeared after it worked
Review the Studio dashboard and notices for an active live-stream restriction, strike, or other policy action. YouTube says a channel with a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days is not eligible to stream. Its guidance associates a strike with a 14-day live-streaming prohibition. Follow the explanation and any appeal or review route shown for your channel in Studio; do not try to bypass an active restriction by streaming from another channel.

If Studio reports a copyright interruption rather than a missing feature, follow the notice’s details. YouTube’s guidance says to inspect Studio and notes that certain content may require the channel to be on a content owner’s allowlist. Copyright issues can interrupt a stream even when a creator believes they have rights, but they are not the default explanation for every missing Live option. See YouTube Help: copyright issues with live streams.

Separate mobile requirements from desktop access
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming path has a requirement of at least 50 subscribers, along with device and app requirements listed in its mobile help page. That threshold does not, by itself, explain a missing desktop live-stream option. If desktop access is missing too, return to Feature eligibility, channel identity, permissions, and Studio notices rather than assuming the mobile rule applies everywhere.

When waiting makes sense—and what to do next
Wait only when live streaming has just been enabled for the first time: YouTube says the first stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. If that window passes, or if the feature had worked previously, record the exact message shown and capture the channel’s Feature eligibility status and relevant Studio notice. Use YouTube’s official help or the support route available to your account with those details.
Or let it run in the cloud
Once YouTube has granted the channel permission to stream, StreamNeo can keep uploaded videos live on YouTube without leaving a computer or home connection running: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It cannot grant missing YouTube permissions or clear a restriction.
