If YouTube live streaming stopped working after a channel ownership change, first check the channel’s Feature eligibility, confirm you’re signed into the Google Account that has access to the right channel, and look for an active restriction. The timing may be relevant, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that changing ownership by itself disables live streaming. The cause needs to be checked on the affected channel.
Run these checks before changing anything
- Confirm the account and channel. Sign into the Google Account intended to manage the channel, then confirm that the selected channel is the one whose ownership changed. A Brand Account can be managed by multiple Google Accounts, and YouTube Studio channel permissions are separate from Brand Account roles. Check that the current account has the intended access.
- Check Feature eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Review whether live streaming is available and whether phone verification is complete or offered. YouTube says phone verification unlocks live streaming, but it does not override a channel restriction.
- Review channel notices and email. Look for a live-stream restriction, copyright issue, Community Guidelines notice, or other enforcement action. If the notice offers an appeal, use that process and follow the instructions shown for the channel.
- Check the requirements for your streaming method. General live-stream access requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. Mobile streaming has additional requirements; see below.
- Identify what changed. Determine whether someone’s Brand Account role changed, YouTube Studio channel permissions were adjusted, or the channel itself was moved to a different Brand Account. These are distinct operations with different prerequisites and risks.
YouTube says a channel needs verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to stream. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Check live-stream eligibility and restrictions
Verification and Feature eligibility
In Studio, the Feature eligibility panel shows feature access and verification options. Complete phone verification if the panel says it is required. If live streaming is unavailable, look for a restriction notice rather than assuming verification alone will restore access: YouTube says access can change when a channel has Community Guidelines or copyright issues.

Restrictions are different from setup problems
YouTube identifies policy, copyright, age-related, and other reasons that can turn off live streaming. Read the specific notice associated with the channel and use any appeal route it provides. Do not try to get around an active live-streaming restriction by streaming from another channel. YouTube prohibits that circumvention and says it may lead to account termination. See YouTube Help: live-streaming restrictions.

Mobile streaming has extra conditions
The 50-subscriber minimum applies to mobile live streaming, not generally to desktop or encoder streaming. Mobile also requires verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after live streaming is enabled. That timing is specific to a first mobile stream; it is not evidence that every access problem after an ownership change will resolve in a day. See YouTube Help: create a mobile live stream.
Work out what “changing ownership” meant
People may use “ownership change” to describe either a change in who manages a Brand Account or a move of the channel between Brand Accounts. Neither operation is identified in YouTube’s published guidance as automatically removing live-stream access.

| Change | What it means | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Brand Account role change | The channel stays associated with the Brand Account while people’s roles change. A Brand Account can have multiple managers but only one primary owner. | The incoming primary owner must have held the owner role for at least seven days before being assigned primary owner. Confirm that the current Google Account has the intended Brand Account role. |
| YouTube Studio channel permissions | A separate system for managing channel access. YouTube recommends channel permissions for access management. | Confirm the correct account and permission are active. Do not confuse Studio permissions with Brand Account ownership. |
| Channel transfer to another Brand Account | The channel itself is moved through a transfer process; this is not simply assigning a new person as owner. | Check the official prerequisites and carefully confirm which destination channel would be replaced. Replacing the wrong channel can permanently delete its content. |
See YouTube’s instructions for changing Brand Account owners and managers and moving a channel from one Brand Account to another. Do not start a transfer as a troubleshooting shortcut: YouTube warns that an incorrect transfer can delete the wrong channel.
