If YouTube has disabled live streaming on your channel, start with the email or YouTube Studio notice that explains the action. Identify whether it is a Community Guidelines strike, a copyright restriction, or another policy issue, then use the appeal or review process attached to that specific action. Do not delete the affected content before appealing, and do not stream from another channel to get around an active restriction.
First, find out why live streaming was disabled
YouTube may disable live streaming temporarily or permanently for several reasons, including a Community Guidelines strike or stream removal, a match to another copyrighted live broadcast, content involving minors in certain circumstances, or other policy issues. There is no single appeal route that fits every restriction. YouTube says its notice includes the reason and appeal instructions when it restricts a stream or channel: Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.

- Open the YouTube email or in-product notice about the restriction. Record the named policy, the affected stream or video, the date, and any instructions or deadline.
- Open YouTube Studio and check the Dashboard for a Channel violations card. Also review any copyright-related notice or restriction shown for the content.
- Choose the process that matches the notice. A Community Guidelines strike appeal is not the same as a copyright counter notification.
Do not assume that a disabled stream always means a strike. If the notice does not make the reason clear, use the instructions in that notice rather than relying on a universal live-stream appeal form; YouTube’s account-specific instructions determine the route.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the notice is for a Community Guidelines warning, strike, or removal
Submit the appeal in YouTube Studio
YouTube’s computer instructions are: open YouTube Studio, go to Dashboard, find the Channel violations card, and select Appeal. The option is tied to the specific warning, strike, or removal.

YouTube Help says a warning or strike can be appealed within six months of issuance. A content removal can be appealed within one year of removal. You get one appeal per strike, so make the explanation specific and factual: identify the decision, explain why you believe it is mistaken, and give relevant context from the stream or video. YouTube does not promise a particular review time.
If an appeal is granted, YouTube says it may reinstate the content and remove the strike, or age-restrict content that is allowed but not suitable for all audiences. If the appeal is denied, the strike remains. See Appeal a Community Guidelines strike or video removal — Computer.
Do not delete the affected content first
YouTube Help states: “Deleting the video will not resolve the strike.” Deleting it can also remove your opportunity to appeal. The same help page says: “You may appeal each strike only once.” Preserve the content while you follow the appeal process.

If the restriction involves copyright or Content ID
Distinguish a Content ID claim from a copyright strike
A Content ID claim is not automatically a copyright strike. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. When it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; continuing can interrupt or terminate the stream. The notice will indicate what action was taken. Read Copyright issues with live streams.
If you have permission to use the material
If you have a license, contact the rights holder about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Keep documentation of the permission and follow the rights holder’s instructions.
Use a counter notification only for a qualifying copyright removal
If a video or stream was removed after a formal copyright removal request and you believe the request was mistaken or the material was misidentified, YouTube provides a copyright counter notification process. It is a legal request, not the ordinary appeal button for a Community Guidelines strike. YouTube shares the counter notification information with the claimant, who has ten US business days to provide evidence of legal action to keep the content down. Because of those legal and privacy consequences, do not submit one casually; review Submit a copyright counter notification — Computer carefully. YouTube says an authorized representative, such as an attorney, may submit it for you.

A copyright strike has separate rules from a Community Guidelines strike. See Understand copyright strikes — Computer and follow the account-specific notice.
How long restrictions last and when access returns
Do not combine the Community Guidelines and copyright timelines. The restriction notice and the policy that caused it determine which clock applies.
| Action | What YouTube says about timing |
|---|---|
| First Community Guidelines strike | Posting, including live streaming, is restricted for one week. Full privileges are automatically restored afterward, but the strike remains for 90 days. |
| Second Community Guidelines strike within the same 90-day period | Posting is restricted for two weeks. |
| Three Community Guidelines strikes within the same 90-day period | The channel may be terminated. |
| Live stream removed for copyright | Live streaming may be restricted for seven days; another copyright strike can make the restriction 14 days. |
These are YouTube policy periods, not a guarantee that every restriction has the same cause or restoration date. Community Guidelines strike details are in Community Guidelines strike basics on YouTube. For copyright actions, consult the notice and the copyright help pages above. If the restriction has not lifted after the stated period, check Studio and the notice for another active restriction or appeal result.

Do not bypass an active restriction
Do not create, acquire, or use another YouTube channel to keep streaming while a restriction is active. YouTube treats this as circumvention and says it may lead to termination of the restricted account and associated channels. Follow the restriction and resolve it through the applicable notice and appeal process.
Common problems and what to do
- You cannot find an Appeal button: Confirm that you are signed into the affected channel and check the Channel violations card in Studio on a computer. For a restriction without that card, follow the instructions in YouTube’s notice; not every action uses the same appeal control.
- You deleted the stream or video: Deletion does not clear a Community Guidelines strike and can prevent an appeal. Check Studio and the notice to see whether an appeal remains available; do not assume deletion restores access.
- You have a license but the stream was interrupted: Ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist, and confirm the permission covers the material in the stream.
- You think a counter notification is the appeal: First determine whether there was a formal copyright removal. A counter notification is a legal process for that removal, not a general remedy for a Content ID claim or Community Guidelines strike.
- The stated restriction period has passed but streaming is still disabled: Review Studio and the latest account notice for another restriction, a different policy action, or an appeal outcome. Use the notice’s route rather than switching channels.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your channel has live-stream access and you want to keep pre-recorded video looping 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate way to operate the stream; it does not appeal or remove an account restriction. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
