You can run a 24/7 brown-noise YouTube livestream from a mini PC by using OBS Studio as the encoder: prepare a video with audio you have the rights to use, connect OBS to YouTube Live with a stream URL and key, test the settings and connection, then leave the mini PC running. The main caveat is the replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so one uninterrupted day-long broadcast is not a reliable way to create a complete archive.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A mini PC that can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate in OBS while maintaining a stable connection. OBS warns that meeting its system requirements does not guarantee adequate streaming performance.
- OBS Studio, a video file or scene containing your brown-noise audio and visuals, and a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity.
- Permission to use every audio and visual element in the livestream. You are responsible for securing the necessary rights, including applicable music rights.
For a simple background broadcast, the video can pair the noise audio with a still image or subtle visual loop. Do not assume that a sound file is free to rebroadcast just because it is available to listen to online.

Check whether the mini PC can handle the stream
OBS is free, open-source software, with downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux at the official OBS download page. Check the operating system and graphics compatibility before installing. Then use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point and test the actual workload you plan to run.

A mini PC that opens OBS may still struggle to stream continuously. CPU load depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. OBS’s system requirements explicitly distinguish basic compatibility from the ability to stream or record at a particular workload.

Prefer hardware encoding when supported
OBS can use a supported hardware encoder to move encoding work away from the CPU. That may reduce processor load, but support depends on the mini PC’s graphics hardware and drivers; do not assume every model has the same encoder options. OBS explains the trade-offs in its hardware encoding guide.
Check cooling and reliability in your own setup
Run a test at the intended settings and watch for dropped frames, overheating, instability and unexpected shutdowns. The cited OBS guidance does not certify any particular mini PC for 24/7 operation, so a short test cannot establish long-term reliability. If you are buying hardware, compare its supported operating system, graphics and encoder, cooling design and return policy with your workload rather than relying on the word “mini PC” as a performance guarantee.

Prepare the channel and brown-noise video
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and follow the prompts to activate live streaming. If this is your first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Check channel access. Confirm that the channel can currently livestream and has no relevant restriction preventing the broadcast.
- Prepare the video asset. Put the brown-noise audio and your still image or visual loop into a video file or OBS scene. Confirm that the file plays correctly and that the audio is audible without clipping.
- Confirm content rights. Use audio and artwork you created, licensed for this use, or otherwise have permission to livestream. YouTube’s terms require the necessary rights for livestream content.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover the stream setup flow.
- Copy the ingest details. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: someone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your ingest endpoint.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS and go to Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service if available, then enter or connect the stream key as prompted. If you choose a custom service option, use the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube.
- Check the preview. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the signal to appear in Live Control Room. Confirm that the image and brown-noise audio are correct, and check YouTube’s stream-health status before making the event public or relying on it.
- Verify the viewer-facing event. Check that the livestream is reachable from the channel or its watch page. YouTube recommends testing ahead of time and monitoring quality rather than assuming that a successful encoder connection guarantees a healthy stream.
Choose conservative video, audio and network settings
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance calls for H.264 video, constant bitrate encoding, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for the resolution and frame rate you select; a bitrate intended for a different mode may not be appropriate. For a mostly static brown-noise visual, there is usually no need to choose a demanding resolution or frame rate unless the content calls for it.

For example, if your configured stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, aim for at least 6 Mbps of stable upload capacity; leave more room if other devices or a second stream share the connection. The exact requirement depends on the settings and any backup stream.

Use a reliable connection and test it at the time and location where the mini PC will run. Ethernet is an optional way to avoid some wireless variability, not a YouTube requirement. A network disruption can interrupt the broadcast, so monitor stream health during testing and plan what you will do if the connection drops.
Plan for the YouTube replay limit
YouTube says livestreams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour session therefore should not be treated as a dependable complete replay. If keeping a durable copy matters, enable a local recording in OBS and verify that the recording file grows and plays correctly. Alternatively, organize shorter sessions, while recognizing that ending and restarting a stream creates separate broadcasts rather than one guaranteed continuous archive.

Test before leaving it unattended
- Run a private or unlisted test using the exact mini PC, OBS scene, encoder, resolution, frame rate and bitrate you intend to use.
- Check the Live Control Room preview, audio level, stream-health indicators and the public watch page.
- Confirm the local recording location has enough free storage and that a test recording can be played back.
- Watch the mini PC’s temperature and stability during a sustained run; repeat testing if you change settings, drivers, hardware or network conditions.
- Decide how you will notice and respond to a failed stream or lost internet connection. A test is useful evidence about your setup, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube does not receive a signal
Check that live streaming is enabled, the stream is active in Live Control Room, and OBS has the correct stream URL and key. If activation is new, it may still be within YouTube’s stated window of up to 24 hours. If you suspect the key was exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
The stream is unstable or drops frames
Compare the configured bitrate with actual upload capacity and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check whether other devices are using the connection, test a more reliable network path, and reduce the resolution, frame rate or bitrate if the connection or mini PC cannot sustain the current profile.

The mini PC becomes overloaded
Check OBS’s performance indicators and system load. Try a supported hardware encoder if available, simplify the scene, or lower resolution and frame rate. Compatibility with OBS alone does not prove that the computer can encode your selected stream settings.
The video is live but the replay is missing or incomplete
Review the session length: YouTube warns that a stream over 12 hours may not be captured. For a reliable copy, use a local OBS recording and verify it independently rather than depending on YouTube’s automatic archive.
The stream is muted, distorted or flagged
Check the OBS audio source, levels and playback of the prepared file. If the audio or visuals are claimed or removed, review your rights and YouTube’s applicable policies; being able to play a track locally does not establish permission to broadcast it.

Local mini PC or cloud streaming?
A mini PC running OBS gives you direct control over the encoder and a local recording option, but it depends on your hardware, power and internet connection staying available. A cloud service avoids leaving your home computer running, but you should check its current YouTube workflow, supported formats and duration, account controls, price and terms before choosing one. YouTube’s encoder information also identifies third-party services that describe 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video; that listing is not an endorsement.
