YouTube allows Managers and Editors to manage live streams; Viewers and Subtitle Editors cannot. The channel must also be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days, and have computer live streaming enabled in YouTube Studio’s Feature eligibility settings. These checks apply to Indian channels too; the cause in a particular case depends on that channel’s current settings and status.
1. Check the manager’s channel role
YouTube channel permissions let an owner give people access without sharing the owner’s Google Account sign-in details. The role determines which controls a delegate can use.

These role capabilities are described in YouTube’s channel permissions guidance. If the person is a Viewer or Subtitle Editor, ask the owner to assign an appropriate role. An Editor can manage streams but cannot change permissions, so an owner or Manager must make that change. Choose the least-privileged role that gives the person the controls they need.

In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Permissions and check the invited person’s role. If the channel is still using Brand Account access, YouTube directs owners to migrate to channel permissions. Use role-based access rather than sharing the owner’s password.

2. Check feature eligibility in Studio
On a computer, open YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Find computer live streaming and review its displayed status. YouTube classifies computer live streaming as an intermediate feature; the Studio page indicates what access or limits apply to the channel. Consult YouTube’s feature-access guidance if the status is unclear.
A role change alone does not establish that the channel is eligible. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says a channel needs to be verified and must have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The channel owner or an authorized person should check both conditions.

3. Look for restrictions, notices, and limits
Review YouTube Studio notifications and the account email for a restriction notice, strike, copyright issue, or other policy action. YouTube lists policy and account-related reasons that can temporarily or permanently remove live-streaming ability. Its live-stream restriction guidance also says that reaching the daily limit for creating live streams may require waiting 24 hours.
- If Studio identifies an active restriction, follow the notice’s instructions and wait for the restriction to end or resolve it through YouTube’s stated process.
- If the channel is restricted, do not try to stream through another channel to get around the restriction. YouTube prohibits using another channel while the restriction remains active.
- If there is no notice but the feature is unavailable, recheck the role, verification, and Feature eligibility status before treating it as a technical problem.
4. Troubleshoot in this order
- Ask the owner to confirm the access model. If the channel uses Brand Account access, review YouTube’s direction to migrate to channel permissions.
- Confirm the delegate’s exact role. Manager and Editor can manage streams; Viewer and Subtitle Editor cannot. If a role change is needed, an owner or Manager can make it.
- Inspect Feature eligibility on a computer. In Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and check the computer live-streaming status.
- Verify the channel and its restriction history. Confirm channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction occurred in the last 90 days.
- Read current notices and email. Look for policy or copyright restrictions and any daily live-stream creation limit.
- Follow the indicated remedy, not a hardware workaround. A camera, microphone, encoder, or faster computer cannot change a channel role or restore account eligibility.
5. Why buying equipment will not restore access
YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming as ways to broadcast after the channel is set up. Equipment helps produce a stream; it does not change delegated permissions, verification, or restrictions. YouTube’s live-streaming tips also note that expensive equipment is not necessary to begin.
