They use their own Google Account; you do not need to share the owner’s password. The channel must also be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
Choose the right channel-permissions role
“Manager” can mean either a legacy Brand Account role or the current Manager role in YouTube Studio channel permissions. They are separate systems. For channel access, YouTube directs Brand Account channels to use channel permissions; do not assume a legacy Brand Account Manager automatically has the same access as a YouTube Studio Manager.

For someone who must start or operate streams but should not grant channel access to others, choose Editor. Choose Manager only when the person also needs to administer permissions. A Viewer is suitable for monitoring, not operating a stream. Assign the least powerful role that covers the person’s full job.
Role names and capabilities can change. Check YouTube’s current channel-permissions role guidance when assigning access.

Move Brand Account access into YouTube Studio
The Brand Account’s primary owner is the person who can opt in to channel permissions. Existing Brand Account users are copied into the permissions setup, but each person still needs a permission level set and an invitation sent. Invitees must accept.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio as the Brand Account channel’s primary owner.
- Open Settings > Permissions.
- Select Move permissions to shift access delegation to YouTube Studio.
- For each person, choose the appropriate permission level and send the invitation. Set the role manually, including for users copied from the Brand Account access list.
- Have each invitee accept the invitation email using their own Google Account.
Use YouTube’s Brand Account migration instructions if the option or labels differ in your Studio interface. Channel permissions work through YouTube and YouTube Studio on computer and mobile; invited users cannot manage the channel through YouTube APIs.

Check live-stream eligibility separately
Adding a Manager or Editor does not make an ineligible channel able to livestream. YouTube’s stated requirements are that the channel is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Keep the primary owner account secure and active. YouTube warns that deleting the primary owner’s account linked to the channel also deletes the channel. Delegated access is intended to let people use their own Google Accounts, rather than sharing the owner’s credentials. See YouTube’s guidance on Brand Account owners and managers.

Common access problems
- The invitee can watch but cannot start or end the stream: they may have Viewer access. Change their channel-permissions role to Editor or Manager according to whether they need to administer permissions.
- The invitee does not appear to have access: verify that the primary owner set a permission level, sent the invitation, and that the invitee accepted it.
- The person has a legacy Brand Account Manager role: migrate to channel permissions and assign the current YouTube Studio role explicitly; do not rely on the old role label.
- The role is correct but the channel cannot go live: check verification and whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days.
