YouTube publishes limits for streams running at the same time, but not a numeric maximum for scheduled events. YouTube Help says a channel can have up to 10 active streams, with no more than 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply. Separately, YouTube’s Live Streaming API can reject attempts to create too many live or scheduled broadcasts, but its documentation does not state a schedule-count threshold. What YouTube’s limits mean
| Question | What YouTube documents | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| How many streams can run at once? | Up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both constraints apply simultaneously. (YouTube Help; publication year not shown.) | A maximum number of future scheduled broadcasts. |
| How many future events can a channel schedule? | The API documents an error, userBroadcastsExceedLimit, for too many live or scheduled broadcasts. Its guidance is to stop or delete some broadcasts. |
A numeric schedule cap or a reset interval. |
| Can scheduled events share a stream resource? | The API describes binding multiple broadcast resources to one reusable stream when transmission settings are shared and events occur at different times. | That sharing a stream bypasses YouTube limits. |
A scheduled broadcast and a stream are different API resources. The broadcast represents the event; the stream carries transmission settings. Reusing a stream for separate events is a documented workflow, not a way to remove a quota. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and Implementation: Broadcasts and Streams.

How to tell which limit you have hit
Another stream will not start
Count streams that are active now, not scheduled events. Check both totals: the channel-wide active-stream count and the number using the same stream key. Reaching either YouTube Help limit can block another stream from starting. A scheduled event that is not currently streaming is not part of that active-stream count.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The API returns userBroadcastsExceedLimit
This error concerns too many live or scheduled broadcasts, not the documented simultaneous-stream limits. The API says to stop or delete some broadcasts, but gives neither a numeric threshold nor a reset time. YouTube does not document how many items must be removed to restore access, so avoid assuming that deleting one event—or any particular number—will resolve it.

Before troubleshooting a creation error
- Confirm the channel can live stream. YouTube Help says live streaming requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days.
- Validate the event fields. For an API-created broadcast, provide a title, a scheduled start time, and a privacy status. The scheduled start time must be in the future and close enough to the current date for YouTube to schedule reliably.
- Separate permission problems from count limits. The API documents insufficient live permissions and a live-permission block as possible errors; those are not evidence that an active-stream or scheduled-broadcast count has been reached.
See the API’s liveBroadcasts: insert reference for the documented creation errors and required broadcast details.
Practical recovery steps
- If you are starting a stream: identify which streams are currently active on the channel and which use the same stream key. Stop an active stream you no longer need, then try again. YouTube Help does not provide a separate reset interval for this limit.
- If the API reports userBroadcastsExceedLimit: review existing live and scheduled broadcasts, then stop or delete broadcasts as appropriate. Retry after that; YouTube does not publish a guaranteed removal count or recovery time.
- If event creation still fails: check verification and live-streaming eligibility, title, future scheduled time, privacy status, and API permissions before treating the issue as a quota problem.
Keeping a YouTube channel live continuously
A cloud service cannot change YouTube’s account-side broadcast limits. StreamNeo is for a different need: keeping uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, not creating extra broadcast capacity or going live from a camera. It is not a workaround for either YouTube limit.
