1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a YouTube radio stream with a static image, start with YouTube’s encoder guidance: use RTMP or RTMPS, a supported video codec, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and audio encoded as AAC or MP3. Set the resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably; YouTube does not publish a special lower-bitrate profile for still-image streams. Plan separately for music rights and the replay: a stream running longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
Recommended settings for a static-image radio stream
YouTube’s published encoder recommendations are for live streams generally, not a separate radio or still-image preset. Treat the bitrates below as ingestion recommendations, not guarantees that a particular encoder or internet connection will be stable.

| Setting | Recommended starting point | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | RTMPS recommended; RTMP is also supported | Choose the protocol supported by your encoder and use the YouTube server URL shown in Live Control Room. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 | Use a codec your encoder supports and your workflow can handle. H.264 is a common compatibility choice; YouTube lists lower recommended bitrates for AV1/H.265 than for H.264 at some matching modes. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 720p30 or 1080p30 are reasonable starting options | A lower frame rate is practical for a still image, but YouTube does not prescribe a frame rate specifically for radio streams. The guidance allows up to 60 fps. |
| Video bitrate | See the table below | Match the bitrate to a reliable upload connection and leave headroom; a still image does not have a published special reduced target. |
| Bitrate mode | CBR | Use constant bitrate rather than a variable mode for the encoder feed. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | YouTube’s advanced-setting recommendation is 128 kbps for stereo audio. |
| Stereo sample rate | 44.1 kHz | Set this in the encoder if the audio workflow exposes the option. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | These settings apply to the video feed even when its picture is a still image. |
YouTube’s published bitrate recommendations are:
| Ingest resolution and frame rate | H.264 | AV1 or H.265 |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not independently measured results. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into multiple output formats. Test with audio and movement similar to what you intend to stream, then check the stream-health messages before and during the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates are the reference for these values.

Open Live Control Room and copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. The key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
-
In the encoder, set the protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR bitrate, and keyframe interval. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default; a custom stream key can be used when you need manual resolution settings.

For a non-interactive radio stream, the lowest-latency mode is usually not a priority. YouTube warns that lower latency can mean more playback buffering. Choose latency based on whether audience interaction matters. DVR allows viewers to pause and rewind while the live stream continues; set it according to the experience you want. See YouTube’s guidance on managing live streams.
Plan for the replay before you go live
Do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will create a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the replay matters, make a local recording as a backup. If you need separate archives, scheduling stream boundaries and restarting is a practical option, but it does not guarantee how YouTube will handle each individual session. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Clear music rights before streaming
A static picture does not change the rights needed for the music. YouTube’s livestream terms require providers to have the rights needed for live and archived content, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can cause the stream to be replaced by a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated.
Even licensed third-party material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Before scheduling a long-running broadcast, confirm with the rights owner that your permission covers the planned use, territory, live performance, and retained archive, and ask whether channel allowlisting is required. Check YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its livestream terms.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | The encoder is not sending to the expected endpoint, or the key is incorrect. | Compare the encoder’s server URL and stream key with the current values in Live Control Room. Keep the key private; reset it if it may have been exposed. |
| Stream health reports instability or viewers buffer | The upload connection may not sustain the chosen bitrate reliably. | Test the upload connection, lower the resolution or bitrate if needed, and leave connection headroom. Recheck stream health after each adjustment. |
| Picture looks wrong or fails to appear in preview | Encoder resolution, frame-rate detection, or video settings may not match the intended output. | Review the encoder settings and Live Control Room preview. Use automatic resolution and frame-rate detection unless manual settings are needed. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or intermittent | The encoder’s audio input or encoding configuration may be wrong, or the source itself may be interrupted. | Test the audio path before going public. Confirm AAC or MP3, stereo settings where applicable, and continuous clean audio in the preview. |
| Music stream is interrupted despite having a license | The rights may not cover the use or archive, or the channel may not be allowlisted through Content ID. | Confirm the permission scope and territory with the rights owner and verify any allowlisting requirement. |
| No complete replay appears after a long broadcast | YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. | Keep a local recording if a complete replay is important; plan session boundaries if you need distinct archives. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the stream to continue without leaving an encoder computer on at home, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. The stream is sent at the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
