If your YouTube Live stream seems to drop in resolution on BSNL broadband, first check whether OBS is actually losing network frames. An encoder’s output resolution, the stream YouTube receives, and the playback quality an individual viewer sees are different things. The OBS dropped-frame counter and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages help identify which part to troubleshoot.
First, identify what “resolution drops” means
Do a short private or unlisted test with motion and audio similar to your planned stream. Watch OBS’s connection indicator and network dropped-frame counter, then check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.

- OBS network dropped frames are increasing, or the stream disconnects: investigate whether the connection can sustain the configured bitrate. OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection to the remote ingest server or one that cannot keep up with the bitrate.
- YouTube reports a stream-health problem or a change in received quality: review the stream-health message and your ingest settings alongside the OBS counter.
- OBS and YouTube look healthy, but one viewer sees low quality or buffering: check playback separately. YouTube makes different output formats available to viewers, and playback can vary without OBS changing its configured output resolution.
A viewer’s quality selector alone does not prove that OBS lowered the output resolution. OBS distinguishes dropped frames from viewer buffering; see the OBS stream connection troubleshooting guide, OBS Help Portal, and OBS stream buffering troubleshooting guide.
Set bitrate for stable upload, not a speed-test peak
A speed test is a useful starting point, but a brief peak does not show that your connection can hold that upload rate throughout a live stream. Other devices uploading on the same connection and variation over time can reduce the capacity available to OBS. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, choosing a quality your connection can support, and using a realistic pre-event test.

- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
OBS gives 75% of total upload speed as a general troubleshooting starting point for stream bitrate. It is not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee for any BSNL plan. If the network dropped-frame counter rises, lower OBS’s video bitrate first. If that is not enough, reduce output resolution or frame rate and test again.
These are YouTube’s H.264 encoder recommendations, not measured BSNL speeds or promises that a particular connection can sustain them. The minimum values are not the recommended targets. Keep codec, resolution and frame-rate rows together when comparing settings.
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 2 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
YouTube lists separate bitrate recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Do not apply the H.264 figures to those codecs. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions when selecting a codec or output mode.

Check OBS and YouTube ingest settings
For RTMP or RTMPS ingest, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, supports up to 60 fps, recommends CBR, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Use RTMPS where supported.
YouTube normally detects stream resolution and frame rate automatically. If you use a custom stream key, YouTube Live Control Room offers manual settings under Stream Resolution. Confirm the selected output matches the stream you intend to send, but remember that correct encoder settings cannot overcome an upload connection that cannot sustain the selected bitrate.
Test the local network before blaming the BSNL route
If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, run a comparable test over wired Ethernet. OBS warns that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming and recommends testing a wired connection. Improvement over Ethernet points to the local wireless segment as a possible contributor; it does not prove that the wider BSNL route is trouble-free.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
A Cat6 Ethernet cable is one way to make that comparison, provided the computer has an Ethernet port or suitable adapter and the cable reaches the router. It is a test aid, not a fix for congestion beyond your home network.

OBS also identifies VPNs, firewall or antivirus interference, network-prioritization software, outdated drivers, modem or router connectivity, and faulty network hardware as possible causes. Check reversible settings first and save relevant OBS logs before replacing equipment or making major changes.
Try OBS network options as controlled experiments
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide documents several options, but they are not universal presets. Change one item at a time and repeat the same test so you can tell whether it helped.

- Windows network settings: OBS documents testing network optimizations and TCP pacing.
- Bind to IP: leave this at Default unless you have a specific reason to change it.
- IPv4: testing IPv4-only may help in some cases. If it makes no difference, OBS recommends returning to the IPv4 and IPv6 default.
- Dynamic bitrate: OBS offers “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta).” It may lower bitrate to reduce frame loss during congestion, but that can lower picture quality and does not fix the underlying connection.
Consult the OBS connection guide for the applicable platform and current settings. OBS’s general 75% bitrate starting point and network options are troubleshooting guidance, not BSNL-specific configuration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When and how to contact BSNL
If dropped frames continue after a wired test and after lowering bitrate to a level your connection can sustain, collect evidence before contacting support. Include the BSNL circle and plan, the times the issue occurred, OBS logs, YouTube stream-health messages, speed-test results taken during the problem, and whether other devices were uploading at the time. This helps distinguish a local setup issue from a service or route problem.
BSNL’s customer-care page lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fiber, broadband and landline support. BSNL’s Self Care app privacy information describes a broadband speed-test feature, which can provide another measurement route. Neither a speed test nor the contact listing diagnoses a particular connection by itself.

BSNL plans and advertised speeds are not a substitute for measuring your own stable upload. For example, a BSNL Chennai Telephones Bharat Fibre sheet marked updated 2025-10-01 is regional and lists speeds up to FUP and after FUP; those figures do not establish a subscriber’s upload speed or sustained route quality elsewhere. BSNL’s plan portal asks users to select an area. Check the plan and conditions for your circle rather than treating a regional tariff sheet as nationwide evidence.
The available information does not establish a current nationwide BSNL fault or a special BSNL-only OBS setting. The ISP name tells you where to escalate a persistent access or route problem; it does not identify the cause. See BSNL broadband plans, BSNL Selfcare customer care, and the BSNL Self Care app information.
Compare troubleshooting options by what they test
| Check | What it tests | Limit or trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Lower bitrate, resolution or frame rate | Whether the stream’s configured demand exceeds stable upload capacity | Lower resolution reduces detail; lower frame rate reduces motion smoothness. Bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate. |
| Wired Ethernet test | Whether Wi-Fi or the local wireless segment contributes to instability | Requires a wired connection and does not test or repair the upstream BSNL path. |
| OBS network options or dynamic bitrate | Whether a documented OBS option helps, or bitrate reduction during congestion limits frame loss | Some options depend on Windows; dynamic bitrate lowers quality and does not fix the root cause. |
| Viewer-side playback check | Whether OBS and YouTube ingest are healthy while a viewer sees a lower rendition or buffering | Viewer device, location and network differ; one viewer’s playback does not establish an encoder setting change. |
| BSNL escalation | Whether the subscriber’s service, plan or route needs provider diagnosis | Useful escalation needs the subscriber’s circle, plan, timestamps and test or log evidence. A current nationwide fault is not established. |
