YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers from a live stream to a Premiere, or guide Premiere viewers to a live stream. To set up a live stream-to-Premiere handoff, create the Premiere first, then edit the live stream in YouTube Studio and choose the Premiere under Customization > Redirect. YouTube’s current instructions give general eligibility and setup guidance but do not say whether the feature is available in India specifically.
What YouTube Live Redirect does
Live Redirect is a YouTube Studio feature for handing viewers from one event to a selected destination when the source event ends. You can direct viewers from a live stream to a Premiere or another eligible live stream. YouTube also documents using a Premiere to guide viewers to a live stream. The handoff uses autoplay; viewers who have autoplay turned off may need to click play. YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions describe the current feature and setup.

It does not move viewers before the source event ends. Allow a few seconds for the viewer’s screen to reload after the event; YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance says to tell viewers to wait about two seconds. Manage live stream settings.

Does Live Redirect work in India?
YouTube’s official Live Redirect page states general eligibility and setup requirements, but it does not identify India as supported or excluded. That silence does not establish either a country-wide guarantee or a restriction. Check whether the controls and destination you need appear in your own YouTube Studio account.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
A destination appearing in the Studio picker only indicates that it is available to select for that setup; it does not establish a general India-specific availability guarantee. For another channel’s live stream, the destination channel must also permit the redirect.
Eligibility and destination permissions
Who can send a redirect?
YouTube’s current Help Center instructions say the channel sending a redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The threshold applies to the sender; it is separate from the destination channel’s permission setting. See YouTube’s eligibility instructions.

Sending viewers to another channel
If you want to send viewers to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow your channel to redirect viewers to it. YouTube describes recipient settings that can allow subscribed channels, all channels, or specifically approved channels. The recipient should check its current Studio settings and choose the permission approach that fits its needs; labels and controls can change. YouTube’s TeamYouTube announcement says channels of any size can receive redirects, which is distinct from the sender eligibility rule.

- Create or schedule the Premiere first. Make sure the intended destination is available before configuring the source live stream. YouTube recommends this order in its live-stream settings guidance.
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to Content, then Live, and find the originating live-stream event.
- Edit the source event. Open its settings, choose Customization, and find the Redirect section.
- Choose the destination. Select Add under Redirect, then choose the intended Premiere from the available destinations. Save the event settings if Studio prompts you to do so. The exact controls can change; YouTube’s current Live Redirect guide has the official workflow.
- Set viewer expectations. Tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the live stream ends. Autoplay handles the handoff for viewers with autoplay enabled; others may need to click play.
Redirect viewers from a Premiere to a live stream
YouTube also documents using Live Redirect to guide Premiere viewers to a live stream. Prepare the destination stream and configure the redirect using the available Premiere controls in Studio. The Premiere must be set up before the relevant redirect is configured where the workflow calls for a scheduled destination. Refer to YouTube’s Premiere setup guide, which describes Live Redirect for sending Premiere viewers to a live stream, and the Live Redirect guide for current controls.

Choose the right destination and timing
| Choice | What to check |
|---|---|
| Your own upcoming Premiere | Create or schedule it first, then select it as the live stream’s destination. |
| Another channel’s live stream | The recipient channel must permit your channel to redirect viewers; check whether its setting allows subscribed channels, all channels, or only specifically approved channels. |
| Viewer handoff | Autoplay-enabled viewers are redirected when the source ends. Viewers with autoplay off may need to click play. |
| Timing | Allow a few seconds for screens to reload at the end of the source event. |
Troubleshooting: when the destination does not appear
The redirect option or destination is missing
- Confirm that you are editing the correct source event in YouTube Studio under Content > Live.
- Check the sender channel’s eligibility: more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes, as specified in YouTube’s current Help Center instructions.
- Confirm that the destination is an upcoming Premiere or an active or upcoming live stream that is eligible to appear in the picker.
- If the destination is another channel’s live stream, ask its owner to permit redirects from your channel and verify that its selected recipient policy includes you.
- If the controls still differ, consult YouTube’s current Live Redirect help page; the documented workflow is not a guarantee that every account or destination will show identical controls.
Viewers are not moved automatically
The redirect happens after the source event ends, not while it is still running. Viewers may need to wait for the screen to reload; if autoplay is disabled, they may have to click play. YouTube’s TeamYouTube announcement specifically notes the autoplay limitation.
