YouTube’s documented requirements do not list language as a restriction. The sending channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; the destination must permit the sender; and Live Redirect is available for horizontal, not vertical, live streams. These are YouTube’s published requirements, not a guarantee that every channel pairing will appear in the selection interface.
Does Live Redirect work across Indian languages?
YouTube’s published Live Redirect requirements do not list a matching-language rule, and they do not identify Indian-language channels as a special eligibility category. A channel can select a Premiere or another channel’s live stream as the destination. The sources do not establish that the feature translates chat, transfers moderators or memberships, preserves the source stream’s chat, combines audiences, or guarantees discovery or recommendations.

Think of it as a handoff between two separate YouTube destinations, not a merged broadcast. The redirect occurs when the source stream ends; it is not a tool for forcing viewers to switch channels midstream.
Who can send and receive a redirect?
Sending channel eligibility
YouTube Help’s current requirements, accessed October 3, 2026, say a channel sending a Live Redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. A channel that does not meet either condition cannot send a redirect under the documented rules.

Destination channel permission
The destination channel controls which creators may redirect viewers to it. YouTube documents three permission approaches: allow channels the destination subscribes to, allow all channels, or allow selected channels through a manual list. For the subscription-based setting, the destination’s subscriptions must be public. The manual allowlist supports up to 100 channels.
YouTube’s 2022 TeamYouTube announcement said, “Channels of any size will be able to receive Live redirects.” Receiving is therefore broader than sending: the destination need not meet the sender’s subscriber threshold, but its permission settings still matter.

Destination availability
The destination must be selectable in the redirect control. YouTube’s announcement describes eligible targets as active or upcoming live streams, or an upcoming Premiere, subject to the destination’s permission settings. A channel’s name alone is not enough if there is no eligible destination available to select.
Format and viewer-behavior limits
Horizontal versus vertical streams
YouTube’s current live-stream feature comparison marks Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams and unavailable for vertical live feeds. If the source is vertical, plan a different handoff rather than relying on the redirect control.

What viewers see when the source ends
When the source stream ends, YouTube can move viewers to the selected destination. If viewers have autoplay turned off, they must click Play; TeamYouTube explicitly noted this in its May 3, 2022 announcement. YouTube’s settings guidance recommends allowing a short pause for a Premiere to reload—about two seconds is a suggestion, not a guaranteed transition time.
Set up a redirect in YouTube Studio
- Check the sender first. Confirm that the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Ask the destination owner to check permissions. In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Community → channel redirect permissions. The owner can allow subscribed channels, all channels, or selected channels. If they choose subscribed channels, their subscriptions need to be public. If they use a manual list, it can contain up to 100 channels.
- Open the source stream’s settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Content → Live, edit the source video, then open Customization.
- Choose a destination. Under Redirect, select Add. Choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream, then select an eligible result.
- End the source stream normally. The handoff takes place after the source ends. Tell viewers to allow a brief pause; people with autoplay disabled need to press Play themselves.
Why the other channel or stream may not appear
- The sender is not eligible: it does not have more than 1,000 subscribers or has a Community Guidelines strike. The documented rules do not permit that channel to send a redirect.
- The destination has not allowed the sender: ask its owner to review redirect permissions. A subscription-based permission may not work if the destination’s subscriptions are private.
- There is no eligible target to select: the target needs to be an active or upcoming live stream or an upcoming Premiere, and it must satisfy the destination’s permissions.
- The source is vertical: YouTube’s feature comparison says Live Redirect is unavailable for vertical live feeds.
- You expect a forced midstream switch: redirect is a handoff at the end of the source stream, not a midstream transfer.
- Viewers do not move automatically: autoplay-disabled viewers must click Play. Allow a short pause for a Premiere to reload.
Or let it run in the cloud
Live Redirect is for handing viewers to another eligible YouTube destination when a stream ends. If your goal instead is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. It can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start the free first day.
