You can redirect viewers from your livestream or Premiere to another channel’s eligible livestream or Premiere, but only if you meet YouTube’s sender requirements and the destination channel allows your channel to redirect to it. YouTube currently requires senders to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The destination channel does not need 1,000 subscribers to receive a redirect.
How cross-channel Live Redirect permissions work
A redirect has two separate permission checks: YouTube’s eligibility rules for the channel sending viewers, and the destination channel’s settings for who may send viewers to it. Meeting the sender requirements alone does not guarantee that another channel will appear as a destination.

Requirements for the sending channel
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a creator needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to send a Live Redirect. Exactly 1,000 subscribers does not meet the stated threshold. See YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions and its live stream settings guidance.

Permissions on the receiving channel
The destination channel chooses who may redirect viewers to its content. In YouTube Studio, the controls are under Settings > Community. YouTube lists three options:

- Channels I subscribe to can redirect to my content: subscribed channels can redirect when the destination channel’s subscriptions are public.
- All channels can redirect to my content: any creator may redirect to the channel. This option cannot be used at the same time as the subscription-based option or the manual approved-channel list.
- Specific channels who can redirect to my content: the owner adds channels to an approved list, which can include up to 100 channels. This can be combined with the subscription-based permission.
These are recipient-side access choices: allowing everyone is the broadest policy, while subscriptions or an approved list limit who can send viewers. Check the labels and available controls in Studio, since YouTube may change its interface.
Can a channel of any size receive a redirect?
Yes. YouTube’s current guidance sets the subscriber and strike requirements for creators sending a redirect, not for the channel receiving one. TeamYouTube employee Jensen stated on May 3, 2022, “Channels of any size will be able to receive Live redirects” (TeamYouTube announcement). The receiving channel still has to allow the sender through its redirect settings.

How to redirect viewers to another channel’s livestream
- Confirm eligibility. Make sure the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Ask the destination channel to check its permissions. Its owner can use YouTube Studio’s Settings > Community controls to allow the sender through subscriptions, the approved-channel list, or the all-channels option.
- Make sure the destination is available. The target must be an eligible livestream or Premiere. A destination may not appear if its settings do not permit your channel or if no eligible stream or Premiere is available.
- Open the source livestream or Premiere in Studio. Go to Content, select the Live tab, and edit the video.
- Choose the destination. Open Customization, find Redirect, select Add, and choose the eligible livestream or Premiere.
- Plan the handoff. YouTube recommends setting up a Premiere before the source livestream. Tell viewers to wait a few seconds for the screen to reload when the source ends.

What viewers experience at the handoff
When the source ends, YouTube’s autoplay moves viewers to the selected destination. Anyone with autoplay disabled must click Play to continue. A redirect is a viewing handoff; YouTube’s guidance does not describe it as transferring channel ownership, stream controls, or creator permissions. It also does not guarantee discovery, audience retention, or growth.

Limitations and situations to avoid
- Destination consent is required: a sender who meets YouTube’s eligibility rules still cannot redirect to a channel that has not allowed it.
- A valid destination must be available: confirm that the target is an eligible live stream or Premiere and that its permissions admit the sending channel.
- Autoplay is not universal: viewers who have turned it off need to start playback themselves.
- A live-streaming restriction cannot be bypassed: YouTube prohibits streaming through another channel while an active live-streaming restriction remains in effect. Review YouTube’s live stream settings and restrictions guidance.
Troubleshooting a missing or ineffective redirect
