If your channel cannot use YouTube Live Redirect, you can still guide viewers to a Premiere or another live stream—but they must make the move themselves. The practical options are to announce a scheduled Premiere, coordinate with the destination channel, or give viewers clear spoken and chat instructions. None reproduces Live Redirect’s automatic handoff.
What YouTube Live Redirect does—and who can send one
Live Redirect automatically sends viewers from a source live stream to a selected Premiere or another channel’s live stream when the source ends. The sender selects the destination in YouTube Studio under the live video’s customization settings; redirecting to another channel requires that channel’s permission. YouTube’s published rule for sending a redirect is more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. This is the sender’s eligibility requirement, not a requirement for receiving a redirect: YouTube’s feature announcement says channels of any size can receive one. YouTube Help.
Receiving channels control permissions
A destination channel can allow redirects from all channels, from channels it subscribes to, or only from channels it approves individually. YouTube allows up to 100 channels on the manual approval list. To use the subscriptions option, the destination channel’s subscriptions must be public. YouTube Help: manage Live Redirect permissions.

Check the stream format
YouTube’s feature comparison lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams, but not for the vertical live feed. If your loop is vertical, check the current options in Studio rather than promising viewers an automatic handoff. YouTube Help: live streaming features.
Choose an alternative based on the handoff you need

The first three options end the source stream if you want viewers to move on from it. The last option avoids ending the loop, but promotion does not guarantee that viewers will leave the source or reach the destination.

Set up a Premiere or coordinate a destination
Use your own upcoming Premiere
- Schedule the Premiere before starting the loop stream. Give it a clear title and a start time viewers can understand.
- If your channel meets YouTube’s sending requirements, open the source live video’s customization settings in YouTube Studio and choose the Premiere as the redirect destination.
- Tell viewers where you are sending them and that they may need to wait a few seconds after the source ends while their screens reload. YouTube recommends creating the Premiere first and giving viewers this heads-up. YouTube Help.
- If you cannot configure an automatic redirect, announce the Premiere’s title and channel before ending the source. Viewers will need to find and open it themselves.
Send viewers to another creator’s live stream
- Ask the destination creator to permit your channel to redirect. They can choose a broad permission setting or approve your channel individually.
- Agree on the target and timing. A permission setting does not guarantee that a destination will be selectable: YouTube only shows available destinations, so there must be an eligible live stream or Premiere at the relevant time. YouTube’s Live Redirect announcement.
- Check the destination in Studio before relying on an automatic handoff. If it is unavailable, tell viewers how to find the destination manually instead.
Give viewers clear manual directions
A manual handoff depends on viewers following your instructions. Before ending the source, state the destination’s channel name and what viewers should select next. Use one short, memorable instruction—for example, “Open the channel page and select the next live stream”—rather than assuming viewers will know where to go.
Reinforce the announcement with a pinned chat message. If you are directing viewers to a Premiere, YouTube recommends pinning a message on its watch page that points them to the live stream. YouTube Help.

Decide whether the loop should end
If the main goal is simply to keep a loop available, a handoff may be unnecessary. You can leave the source stream running and advertise a separate destination in your channel or chat. That is a workflow choice, not a YouTube routing feature, and viewers are not guaranteed to follow the promotion.
For an encoder-based workflow, YouTube uses a stream key to connect the encoder to the live stream. Its live-streaming guidance describes encoder software as one way to go live, but a particular computer, camera, capture card, or paid encoder package is not a requirement for Live Redirect itself. Loop-stream policy and viewing limits
Repetition can affect monetization, but a loop is not an automatic violation
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams as well as other formats. It says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible, including highly repetitive material with little educational value, commentary, narrative, or variation. It also says similar formats can be monetizable when each item has materially varied substance and creative, educational, or other value. A loop alone does not establish either outcome. Consider whether the stream adds meaningful original context, narration, interaction, variation, or other value. YouTube channel monetization policies.

YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for live streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers may therefore be unable to rewind as far as expected; do not promise reliable rewind across a very long broadcast. YouTube Help: live stream DVR.

Use content you have the rights to stream
YouTube’s live-stream terms require providers to hold the necessary rights for worldwide use of live content and to follow applicable laws and regulations. Make sure that video and music in a loop are cleared for the planned use. YouTube Terms of Service.
