To keep a recorded lesson playing after its file ends, open the OBS Media Source properties and turn on Loop. For several lessons, add them to a VLC Video Source playlist and enable Loop Playlist. These settings repeat the video; they do not decide when the YouTube Live event ends.
Loop one recorded lesson in OBS
- In OBS, select the scene that contains the lesson. Add the video as a Media Source, or right-click its existing source and choose Properties.
- Check that the correct video file is selected, then enable Loop.
- Apply the change and preview the scene. Let the file reach its end and confirm that it starts again; check the audio as well as the picture before going live.
The setting names may differ slightly by OBS version or interface language. In the source properties, look for Loop.

Do not confuse the playback options
- Loop repeats the file when playback reaches the end.
- Restart playback when source becomes active concerns what happens when the source becomes active; it is not a substitute for looping an active source.
- Show nothing when playback ends hides the source at the end rather than repeating it.
Loop a playlist of lessons
- In the scene, add a VLC Video Source.
- Open its properties and add the lesson files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then preview playback through the end of the playlist to check that it returns to the first lesson.
OBS requires VLC to be installed for the VLC Video Source to appear. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Project Media Sources guide for its source documentation.

- Verify that your channel is eligible to livestream: YouTube’s current setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup guidance.
- Start a test stream and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the event is accessible on the channel and watch page, and check picture and audio quality.
- During the stream, monitor the audio and video. If you need a local archive, record locally and verify that the file is intact and has a plausible size; do not treat the YouTube archive as your only copy.
- When the event should end, check its status in Live Control Room. After YouTube’s event has stopped, stop the encoder in OBS.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours may be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. The 12-hour figure is a platform caveat, not a guarantee of an archive for shorter streams. Keep and verify a local recording if the lessons must be preserved. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.

Check rights and policies for recorded lessons
YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and requires creators to have the rights needed to use content through Google services, including applicable music rights. Livestreams are scanned for third-party matches; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if third-party material is licensed, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance for live streams before broadcasting.
For school material, check that the school or relevant rights holder has authorized the lesson, images, music, and any other included third-party content for livestream use. Permission to use a recording in class does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it publicly.

Which OBS playback setup should you use?
| Need | OBS setup | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one lesson | Media Source → Loop | Starts that file again when it reaches the end. |
| Play several lessons in sequence, then start again | VLC Video Source → playlist → Loop Playlist | Repeats the playlist; VLC must be installed, with the matching 64-bit edition for 64-bit OBS. |
| Hide the video after it ends | Media Source → Show nothing when playback ends | Hides the source; it does not repeat the lesson. |
Troubleshoot playback and stream behavior
The lesson ends and the scene goes blank
Open the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled. If Show nothing when playback ends is enabled, the source can disappear at the end instead of repeating.

The playlist does not restart
Check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video Source properties and that the intended lesson files are in the playlist. Preview through the end before going live.
The video repeats, but YouTube Live is still running
That is expected: looping controls OBS playback, not the event’s end. Check the event in YouTube Live Control Room and stop the OBS encoder after the YouTube event has stopped.

The livestream is interrupted over lesson content
Check for third-party matches and confirm that you have the necessary broadcast rights. A license may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the uploaded lessons to continue without leaving a computer or home connection running, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video in the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
