For a 720p YouTube Live stream, start at 6 Mbps video bitrate. That is YouTube’s recommended live bitrate for both 30 and 60 fps in its current encoder guidance. If your 10 Mbps upload is stable and sustained, 6 Mbps leaves about 4 Mbps of measured capacity unused. Use H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and 128 kbps stereo audio as a straightforward setup.
Recommended 720p YouTube Live settings
YouTube’s live encoder recommendations list 6 Mbps for 720p at either 30 or 60 fps for H.264, AV1 and H.265/HEVC. The guidance does not prescribe a separate bitrate for devotional music or mostly static imagery. The settings below are a practical starting point, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection will remain stable.

| Setting | Starting value | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1280 × 720 (720p) | Choose 720p in your encoder. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps for a mostly static visual; 60 fps if the scene has faster motion | YouTube lists the same 6 Mbps bitrate for both frame rates at 720p. Use the rate your source and encoder can deliver consistently. |
| Video bitrate | 6 Mbps | Set the encoder to a constant video bitrate (CBR). |
| Video codec | H.264 | A straightforward supported choice. YouTube also lists AV1 and H.265/HEVC; select one only if your encoder supports it and it suits your workflow. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. |
| Audio | 128 kbps stereo | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and 128 kbps for stereo in its advanced settings. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP. |
These values follow YouTube Help’s live encoder settings. Because the official guidance is organized by codec, resolution and frame rate, it does not establish a devotional-song-specific codec, frame rate or lower bitrate.

It can be, if 10 Mbps is your stable available upload rate while streaming. At that measured rate, a 6 Mbps video stream leaves about 4 Mbps, or 40%, unallocated. YouTube’s streaming tips say the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommend leaving 20% room.

A nominal or one-time speed-test result does not show that the connection will hold that rate throughout a live event. Other people or devices uploading on the same connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder. YouTube Help advises creators to run a speed test to check upload bitrate. Test the connection under conditions similar to the broadcast, then verify stream health before relying on it for an event.
Choose 30 or 60 fps for devotional songs
30 fps for a mostly static scene
If the broadcast is mainly an album cover, lyrics, or a still devotional image, 30 fps is a sensible practical choice. The source guidance does not say that static imagery needs a lower bitrate; keep the 720p recommendation at 6 Mbps.

60 fps when the visual motion benefits from it
Use 60 fps if the video includes movement that looks better at a higher frame rate and your source can provide it steadily. YouTube’s listed 720p bitrate remains 6 Mbps at 60 fps, the same as at 30 fps. The decision is about the motion in the picture and reliable delivery, not a higher bitrate specified by YouTube.

- Configure the encoder: select 1280 × 720, the frame rate appropriate for your visuals, H.264, CBR at 6 Mbps, a two-second keyframe interval, and stereo audio at 128 kbps.
- Use YouTube’s stream connection details: connect the encoder to your YouTube live event using its stream key, and choose RTMPS if your encoder offers it. Treat the stream key as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Run a representative test: include the actual audio and movement planned for the event. Check the encoder output and YouTube’s stream-health messages before going live to the intended audience.
- Monitor while live: watch for dropped frames, connection warnings or stream-health messages. If the upload fluctuates, reduce the encoder bitrate or resolve competing network traffic, then test again rather than assuming the advertised 10 Mbps will be sustained.
YouTube recommends a pre-event test with representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health while live. Its live encoder guidance does not establish a specific test duration or guarantee that a successful test predicts future network conditions.

Use normal latency for a music broadcast without interaction
Latency is the delay between capture by the encoder or camera and playback for viewers. For a devotional music broadcast without live audience interaction, normal latency is a reasonable default. Choose lower latency when real-time interaction matters, while accounting for YouTube’s warning that lower latency can lead to more playback buffering. See YouTube’s live stream settings and latency guidance.
Do not use prerecorded-upload bitrates for a live stream
YouTube’s recommendations for sending a live stream are different from its encoding guidance for uploading a finished video. Its separate prerecorded video upload page lists 5 Mbps for 720p SDR at standard frame rates and 7.5 Mbps at high frame rates. Those are upload-encoding figures for prerecorded videos, not the live encoder bitrate to enter for this broadcast.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports unstable or insufficient bandwidth: check whether 10 Mbps is sustained during the stream, pause other uploads, and run another test. If the available upload rate cannot reliably support the total stream bitrate with room to spare, lower the video bitrate and retest.
- Video drops frames or looks inconsistent: check encoder load and connection stability. Confirm CBR and the selected resolution and frame rate; try 30 fps if the source is mostly static or the connection is variable.
- Audio is missing or distorted: verify the encoder’s audio device and that the stream includes an audio track. Confirm AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and check the stereo setting and level before the event.
- The keyframe setting is rejected or the stream behaves unexpectedly: set the interval to two seconds and do not exceed four seconds.
- Viewers experience buffering despite a healthy send: lowering stream latency can increase playback buffering. For a non-interactive music broadcast, use normal latency unless immediate audience interaction is important.
