To set up a YouTube gaming rerun, create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, choose the Gaming stream type when appropriate, and make the title and thumbnail clearly identify the game and that the footage is a replay. You can organize finished public archives in a playlist, but YouTube’s documented playlist guidance describes organization—not an automatic feature that rotates existing VODs into a live broadcast.
Set up the rerun in YouTube Studio
-
Open YouTube Studio and select or create a live stream in Live Control Room. If you have a previous stream with useful settings, choose Reuse settings. YouTube says this copies settings and metadata from the earlier stream, and you can edit them after creation. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

Update the title, description, thumbnail, and other details for this specific rerun. Do not leave old episode details in place just because you reused the prior setup.

Schedule the stream if advance promotion and viewer reminders matter. A scheduled stream has a shareable watch page; scheduling is distinct from making old videos rotate automatically. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
-
After the broadcast, decide whether the archive should remain public. If you want viewers to find it, leave it public and add it—along with relevant highlight clips—to an appropriate playlist. YouTube recommends organizing archives and highlights this way. YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.
Write a title that makes the replay clear
Use a consistent pattern that identifies the game, labels the footage as a rerun or replay, and distinguishes the session when useful. For example: Game Name Replay — Ranked Matches, Session 12. This is editorial guidance, not a YouTube-mandated format.

- 4K60 Capture: Record in cinematic quality with crisp detail and vivid colors
- HFR Support: Play and capture in 1440p120 or 1080p240
- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows
- Cross-Platform Compatible: Works with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and more
- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
Be precise about what is happening: if previously recorded gameplay is being broadcast now, do not imply that the gameplay itself is live. A scheduled broadcast can be live even when its footage is not being played in real time.
Build a recognizable thumbnail series
Keep recurring rerun thumbnails visually consistent, then make the particular game or session easy to tell apart at a glance. A simple system might keep the same series styling while changing the game image and a short session label for each broadcast.
YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish exact thumbnail dimensions, file limits, or a specific editing path for this workflow. Check the current Studio interface for those requirements before publishing rather than relying on an unverified numeric specification.

Use playlists for archives, not as a live rotation setting
A YouTube playlist can help viewers browse public archives and clips in a useful order. It is separate from the method used to deliver video into a live broadcast. YouTube’s cited guidance recommends playlist organization but does not document an automatic VOD-playlist rotation feature that turns existing recordings into a live stream. Do not assume that adding recordings to a playlist will make them broadcast as a continuous live channel.
If you need a live rerun, arrange a separate broadcast workflow for the video itself. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes encoder streams as suitable for gameplay; it does not establish that an ordinary playlist performs this function.
Choose a cadence viewers can rely on
Schedule in advance when promotion and reminders are useful, and keep a sustainable, consistent cadence. YouTube’s schedule guidance recommends considering frequency, consistency, available content, and production cost versus return. Communicate schedule changes to viewers rather than letting an old schedule remain misleading. YouTube Help: Upload schedule tips – Live.

What tags can—and cannot—do
Tags are not a substitute for a clear title and thumbnail. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery except when a video’s content is commonly misspelled. Add relevant tags if they help with likely misspellings, but do not expect a long tag list to drive discovery. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
