For a mostly static Marathi devotional stream, start by testing 720p at 30 fps, H.264, and 3 Mbps video bitrate. If fine detail or movement benefits from a sharper picture and your upload connection can sustain it, test 1080p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps. These are YouTube’s recommended live-ingest bitrates for those H.264 formats; neither is a special rule for Marathi content or 24/7 streams.
Choose a starting bitrate for the picture you are streaming
Bitrate is the amount of data your encoder sends each second. Set it according to the resolution, frame rate, and codec—not the language or devotional genre. The choice between 720p and 1080p is a production judgment: a largely still image or graphic may not gain much from higher resolution, while fine detail or more movement can make the difference noticeable.

The minimum is not the safest default for an unattended stream: it leaves less room for connection variability. YouTube’s figures are incoming live-ingest settings, not a promise that every viewer will receive playback at that exact bitrate. YouTube detects encoder settings and transcodes live video into multiple output formats.

Use the column for your encoder’s codec. These are the recommended and minimum ingest bitrates in Mbps in YouTube Help guidance accessed in 2026. They are not upload-video encoding recommendations.

For a fixed-camera or graphic devotional stream, 30 fps is usually the more relevant starting comparison than 60 fps unless the picture has fast movement. That is a content-based choice, not a YouTube requirement. Compare image detail, motion, stable upload capacity, encoder workload, and the cost of keeping the setup running continuously.

Pair the bitrate with reliable encoder settings
A practical baseline for the recommended 720p30 H.264 test is H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), RTMPS, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for live encoding; use another codec only if your encoder and workflow support it, and select its corresponding bitrate column.

- Rate control: Use CBR, as YouTube’s live guidance specifies.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection into and through Google’s servers.
- Audio: YouTube recommends AAC or MP3. For stereo, use 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps; for 5.1 audio, its recommendation is 48 kHz and 384 kbps.
- SDR color: YouTube recommends Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth.
Keep audio bitrate separate from video bitrate when estimating network use. Add the audio bitrate—128 kbps for the stereo recommendation—to the video rate, then allow for protocol overhead and variation in encoder behavior.
Calculate upload capacity with headroom
Use measured upload speed, not download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom. As a rough planning floor, a 3 Mbps video stream plus 128 kbps stereo audio needs more than 3.128 Mbps of stable outbound capacity before protocol overhead; with the recommended 20% headroom, plan for approximately 3.9 Mbps or more. This is an estimate, not a guarantee of stability.
For a 5 Mbps video stream plus 128 kbps audio, the same 20% calculation gives approximately 6.2 Mbps before accounting for protocol overhead. If sending a primary and backup feed, count both feeds and then leave the headroom. YouTube advises running an upload speed test and choosing a quality the connection can sustain.

A wired, stable connection is a sensible reliability measure. A connection disruption can break a stream, so a high bitrate that the link cannot maintain is a worse choice than a lower, steady setting. YouTube’s streaming tips cover connection considerations.

- Set up the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, use the live control room to create or manage the stream and obtain its stream key. Follow YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: it lets an encoder send video to your channel. Do not post or share it publicly.
- Configure the encoder. Start with 720p30 H.264 at 3 Mbps, CBR, RTMPS, a two-second keyframe interval, and the audio settings appropriate to your stream.
- Run a representative test. Include the actual audio and visual movement you expect during the devotional stream, not just a static test screen. YouTube’s guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Check stream health. Watch YouTube Live Control Room for stream-health warnings and monitor encoder and connectivity faults. Confirm the audio, picture, and continuity before relying on an unattended schedule.
- Change one variable at a time. If testing 1080p, 60 fps, a different codec, or a backup feed, reassess upload capacity and test stream health again.
YouTube detects the incoming encoder settings and transcodes the stream for viewers. The bitrate you configure is therefore an ingest value, not the playback rate guaranteed to every viewer. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance for stream management details.

YouTube does not publish a separate bitrate for Marathi, devotional video, or 24-hour streaming. The same resolution, frame-rate, and codec table applies. The stream’s content can still guide the choice: a low-motion devotional image may be satisfactory at 720p30, while a detailed or moving visual may justify testing 1080p30 if upload capacity is steady.

Duration does not create a new bitrate recommendation, but it makes connection and encoder reliability more consequential. Test the full configuration with representative audio and movement, monitor stream health, and repeat the test after changes to resolution, frame rate, codec, network, or backup-feed setup.
