If a 24/7 YouTube stream keeps buffering on Airtel Xstream Fiber, first lower the YouTube playback quality and check whether the same stream buffers on another device. Then compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, reduce other network use, and restart the ONT/router carefully. These checks help narrow the cause; they do not prove that Airtel’s line or your router is at fault.
Start with a quick playback-quality test
- In the YouTube player, open Settings → Quality.
- Choose a lower resolution that is available and watch long enough to see whether buffering changes.
A lower setting can reduce interruptions at the cost of image detail. Treat it as a reversible diagnostic, not proof that your broadband plan is inadequate. YouTube and Airtel both recommend lowering playback quality when videos buffer: YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance and Airtel’s YouTube buffering advice.

Find out whether the problem is YouTube, one device, or the connection
Repeat the same stream test on another supported device. Also try a different YouTube video or another service. If practical, compare the affected device on another internet connection.
- Only one device or the YouTube app buffers: focus first on the app, browser, or device.
- Several devices and services have trouble: check the home network and fiber equipment; contact Airtel if the issue persists.
- YouTube alone has trouble across devices: the comparison points away from a single-device fault, but does not establish where the cause lies.
YouTube notes that “Network congestion and other factors may also cause live programming issues, which can delay the stream.” That general guidance does not identify Airtel as the cause. A speed test is only one diagnostic datapoint; no numeric speed threshold or buffering statistic for this exact setup is established by the cited guidance.

Refresh YouTube and check the device
- Close and reopen the YouTube app, or refresh the page in a browser.
- If your device provides the option, clear the YouTube app cache.
- Restart the device and install available app and system updates.
- For browser playback, try another browser or a private window to see whether the symptom changes.
- Use the supported YouTube app or go to youtube.com.
Menu names vary by device. YouTube’s playback troubleshooting steps include checking another supported device and changing the internet connection.
Test Wi-Fi before changing your internet plan
Improve the viewing spot
Move the TV, computer, or other viewing device closer to the router and away from obvious obstructions. Temporarily pause downloads, video calls, and other heavy network use so the same stream can be tested with less competing traffic.

Compare Wi-Fi bands if your router offers both
Airtel describes 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as generally longer-range and 5 GHz as faster but shorter-range. Neither is always best: distance, walls, interference, and the equipment all affect the result. Try the available band that works better at the viewing location rather than choosing by label alone.

If possible, connect the TV or computer to the ONT/router with an appropriate RJ45 Ethernet cable, then test the same stream again. Airtel’s Xstream Fiber troubleshooting guide describes Cat5/Cat6 cabling for a wired connection. Check that your device has a compatible port and that the cable reaches before buying one.

If Ethernet improves playback, Wi-Fi conditions may be contributing; that result alone does not prove the router is defective. A cable is an optional way to diagnose the connection, not a guaranteed fix.
Check and restart the ONT/router safely
- Check that the equipment has power and that visible connections are secure.
- If restarting is appropriate, disconnect power from the ONT/router and wait roughly 15–20 seconds, until the lights go off.
- Reconnect power and allow the equipment time to re-establish the connection before testing again.
Handle the fiber patch cord gently. Airtel warns that acute bends can degrade connection quality; do not bend, tug, or reposition it as an experiment. If indicator lights or service remain abnormal, contact Airtel. Airtel also describes Wi-Fi optimization through the Airtel Thanks app, but app navigation may change.

When to contact Airtel or YouTube
Contact Airtel through its current support channel if multiple devices or services have connection trouble, or if the equipment indicators or service remain abnormal after basic checks. If the problem is limited to YouTube playback after comparing devices and connections, send feedback through YouTube Help and Feedback.
When reporting the problem, note the time, device, whether other services work, and whether Ethernet or another internet connection changes the symptom. These observations can help support narrow it down. Only Airtel can inspect your subscriber line and account; the checks here cannot verify an address-specific outage or line fault.
